“Check it out first to see if your cabin suits you”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

Stayed two nights in "Idlewilde", a two bedroom self-contained cabin near the reception area.

Pros:
- Close to town and the seaside, with an attractive bushland setting
- Cabin ambience matches the setting
- Roomy

Cons:
- A bit pricey for what we got - better value if you have a large group and fill all the beds
- Cabin and furnishings looks and feels dated and tired - has seen better days
- Information pack and signs around the ground have a lot of "don't do this", "you must not...", "this is not permitted"
- Restaurant permanently closed

Only stayed one night - thankfully. Staff at reception could not care less. Cabin was something left over from the 70's. May have been very modern in the 70's but very, very tired now. Double Bed (very uncomfortable), Twin tub washing machine - NO DRYER and a smell usually found in old caravans. On-sit restaurant closed. All on-site activities were of a lowest standard possible. AVOID !

Nice place. Its very cozy, the carpets add to that. Liked the pool and play area for children. Cool place.

When I was a young girl my parents took our family on a holiday to Tasmania and I can remember staying at Bicheno By The Bay, so when I decided to take my family on a holiday to Tasmania we had to stay at Bicheno By The Bay. We spend two night at Bicheno by the Bay and it is a lovely place to just chill out and have family time. The staff at Bicheno will help you out as much as possible, the view of the oceans is so relaxing. Playground for the kids, canoeing for older kids, penguin tours and the wineglass bay cruise where we saw whales and fur seals swimming in the ocean. Bicheno by the Bay is close to the shops you can walk to the main town. If you are travelling around Tasmania then please consider Bicheno by the Bay and stop and smell the roses. We have enjoyed our stay and would recommended Bicheno by the Bay for anyone who is looking for a quite relaxing time. Thanks you Bicheno by the Bay and who knows my kids might bring there kids back to your wonderful place.

Very friendly helpful service. Great bungalow sleeping up to 6 people. Plenty of space for young ones. My 3yr old loved the pirate ship playground and the free canoe lake. Absolutely perfect location - a short walk to town centre and the spectacular coastal track to the blowhole. Only downside is the decor is a bit dated - could do with an update especially the ancient washing machine and double mattress (I understand they are in process of updating the washing machines and the owner let me use another room with a modern machine).

I stayed with my two teen children in August for 3 nights. The cabin was cosy, tidy, clean and well heated by 3 heaters. It provided all we needed to self-cater easily. The staff were friendly and helpful and as we arrived on a day of really bad weather it was great to be able to get videos and boardgames at reasonable prices. We also took advantage of the tennis court on a sunnier day.
The tv reception is not great, but this is explained in the cabin information, and if you move the antenna wire around you can find a better picture. (we had contacted the office and they did arrive to help me but I had solved the problem)
We went on the penguin tour and while waiting we were rewarded with seeing rabbits and a wallaby, what a treat. The restaurant was closed during our stay.
My children and I would certainly stay again.
