“Still Smiling, so many wonderful little touches.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in the white room. We arrived relatively late Friday night but despite this Michael was there to greet us as soon as we drove up the driveway. He showed us around the whole house, explained everything and made sure all was OK.
The place was spotless, felt I could "eat off the floor".
Friday night there was one other guest, a friend of Michael and David's and we had a wonderful breakfast together, served at our desired time of 9am. We enjoyed such a great conversation with Louie and Michael that we didn't leave the breakfast table until 11.
Saturday night it was only us staying at Thorn Park so we had a romantic dinner for two. David served us 5 superb dishes, the best twice cooked goats cheese souffle I have ever tasted. The table setting was immaculate and the menu written out in calligraphy by Michael. Whilst eating we were chatting to Michael and on our encouragement he was getting several books off their shelves, checking if there were any we wanted to read, did I want him to put on them on my bedside table?
It was hard to leave Sunday morning, but again there was no rush, check-out time being when we desired to leave.
It is fairly pricey to stay here compared with other Clare Valley accommodation but I cannot imagine that any other place would get even close to the hospitality that Michael and David offer. Words are really not enough and I would love to return again soon. Every so often a smile crosses my lips when I remember some of the stories we shared so the joy goes well beyond the two days we were there.

I recently stayed for 2 nights at this beautiful B and B. I have never experienced such service in a B and B, great food, beautifully served on great china,it has great aesthetic charm and so comfortable and warm with beautiful linen on the beds.David and Michael certainly know how to deliver a great product. The breakfasts different from the usual you would expect with great attention to detail. The house is just full of charm and warmth.Even on departure we were going to Kangaroo Island to stay so David and Michael packed us a bag of treats to eat on the way when we arrived on Kangaroo Island.
Many Thanks for a beautiful relaxing stay.

We stayed for one night as two couples. The current B&B is a new and most attractive building. David and Michael are excellent hosts and we had two wonderful meals, dinner and breakfast. Not cheap but well worth the money for a memorable stay.

It was such a privilege to be able to stay at Thorn Park by the Vines recently. A beautifully appointed guest house, purpose built and designed and decorated by the owners. David Hay has presented exquisite taste in architectural layout along with his elegant yet invitingly relaxing decor. The rooms are a celebration of classic style and include all of the modern conveniences that you learn to expect when staying in quality accommodation such as this. The inclusion of an ipod/iphone dock was certainly appreciated. We enjoyed the wonderful artwork adorning the walls, from the works of celebrated South Australian artists to an extensive range of etchings that represent the hosts' extensive travels throughout Europe. The house oozes a feeling of relaxation and we certainly made the most of the wonderful views from the rooms, of the native bushland setting, complete with the water feature of a dam and vines. The bird life is abundant and varied and it was very easy to 'while away' the time either sitting on one of the decks or looking though the expansive windows at the scene before us.
David and Michael are the perfect hosts. They are warm and friendly and were happy to accommodate our wishes. The meals were a pure delight, with wonderful offerings created in the kitchen by David from quality local ingredients. Michael was the perfect host and regaled us with delightful stories and the occasional serenade.
So... the privilege of indulgence was ours and we look forward to our return visit.

Room Tip: The Mocha Room facing east has morning sun. The Green Room facing west has evening sun and overlook...

This is a very special place.

It is not your "average" B & B or country house.

This is where you come for a real treat. From the moment you arrive it is as if you are a returning guest of many visits (even though it is your first). The welcome mat is there - tea, coffee a drink - they are offered immediately. The warmth of the hosts just flows and you very quickly relax.

The three rooms are large, very well equipped and just so comfortable. So too is the lounges that offer views over the neighbour's vineyards. You'll think that you have been transported to one of those country houses that feature in the "top lifestyle" magazines.

However, it is the meals that are just so wonderful. The food is top quality - if someone told you that Thorn Park had a Michelin star you would nod very knowingly in agreement. I don't believe it does but if it were to be officially rated....... The menu seems to change on a daily basis - the food - in a word - stunning. You sit with your fellow guests at a long dining room table in front of a wonderful log fire (our weekend in October was cool). We enjoyed the companionship of our fellow guests - Thorn Park "regulars" of many years, who just kept returning for a weekend of luxury.

The next morning a breakfast of all breakfasts was served - again the highest quality and so good we wondered whether lunch was in order.

When it came to planning the days activities our hosts were more than helpful in their suggestions and were more than willing to assist in securing introductions or bookings.

A read of their guestbook revealed all - nothing but page after page of praise. The next weekend one of Australia's leading travel writers shared her thoughts on Thorn Park - it read like one of the pages from the guestbook.

What more could you say !

Room Tip: They are all good.

We have recently returned from a 2 day stay at this wonderful B & B in the Clare Valley. This place is the place you go to have a few days of luxury and sheer relaxation. Our friendly, experienced hosts, David & Michael make your stay 'special'.
Located in a secluded, picturesque Australian gum tree setting, the home also overlooks their own dam and nearby vines.
Thorn Park by the Vines is a relatively new homestead comprising 3 double bedrooms, each with en-suite, large feature kitchen and beautifully furnished and decorated formal areas. Each bedroom has a different colour theme. Our 'Mocha' room was large and beautifully appointed. It exuded comfort and the temperature was always perfect. The White room and the Yellow room were of the same high standard !!!. Bathrooms included under floor heating, generous toiletries, luxurious towels and a towel rail that ensured a warm towel after a great shower!
Meals are a feature of your stay at Thorn Park.
Breakfast is a leisurely affair of a variety of home made cereals, fresh special yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a hot breakfast. Each morning was different, from scrambled eggs with avocado and smoked ocean trout to eggs with baked prosciutto in a baked pastry cup. Home made jams and freshly baked sourdough bread finished the meal nicely. Time to walk the Riesling Trail!
At night you can opt for the Dinner...Don't leave without enjoying this gastronomical delight! David's menus are superb and, of course, accompanied by an appropriately special wine list. Our meal started with an asparagus tart, followed by barramundi braised in a saffron infused broth with kipfler potatoes and oven roasted tomatoes. Yummy !!! . A citrus salad to cleanse the palate then dessert of chocolate tart and home made sauce. Afterwards, a cup of coffee and enjoy the company of your fellow guests. Nothing is too much trouble for Michael and David. They will make bookings at local venues and suggest activities to enhance your visit to the beautiful Clare Valley. Every attention is given to detail. Nothing is overlooked.
Go and enjoy...You won't regret it !!
