“Very nice stay in Mooloolaba!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

We stayed there two weeks and everything went perfectly! Hostel is nice and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Free breakfast, surfboard, bikes etc. Location is great and there is cheap gym nearby! I would recommend this hostel to everyone!

What a lovely little hostel this is! Nice dorm rooms, a good communal table, free pool table free weekly bbqs and friendly staff round every corner! Great place to stay for a couple of days, or a couple of months. Well done mooloolaba backpackers, you've done yourself proud!

I stayed here for a week last month, had a great time in Mooloolaba! Hostel did have quite a few people who seem to have been their a while working, but they were pretty welcoming to me and my friend! The free stand up paddle tour we had from the hostel was really fun! Free breakfast in the mornings was well good... the rooms are standard but sheets are like those in the motels so things seemed pretty clean! would definitely go back again and recommend to my friends..

Room Tip: i had a free upgrade into the ensuite dorm which i didnt mind at all!

We stayed here for a few months whilst working on farms, the rooms were extremely overpriced even with the 'discount' for staying long term. If you stay in a private room you have to ask for it to be cleaned yet cleaners just walk in without knocking, don't even clean the room, and can be very rude when you ask them to leave. The reception staff and management had absolutely no respect for long termers and spoke to you like **** because they knew you couldn't leave because you were working on a farm. Also, reception closes at 8pm which is annoying and you get charged $140 if security has to unlock it if you need something. There is also a tiny car park and not much near by street parking and you get charged if a member of staff double parks and you ask them to move their car!! Head of security has a massive ego problem and no manners and will make constant jokes about sleeping with your girlfriend which gets tiring to say the least. Also, if you dont keep an eye on your alcohol he will steal it, his name is Dan so watch out for him! Washing machines and tumble dryers are rubbish so it costs a fortune as you have to keep putting money in, plus there are only a couple so there's normally a huge wait to do washing. Food can't be kept in bags in the fridges which makes for a high level of thefts from fridges/freezers. Basically, if you need to do farm work and don't have your own transport you will get ripped off and have to endure poor quality living conditions for 3 months. DO NOT STAY HERE EVER!! The beds in dorms have actually given people scabies (not joking!), and they really need to work on their people skills if they want to get return guests, being in a good location shouldn't give them an excuse to treat guests badly. I wish there was a score worse than terrible so I could use that..

I would not recommend staying here! It is filthy and reception is run by incompetent backpackers working for free accommodation! If you are looking for farmwork watchout! They charge silly amounts for travel to and from farms.

I stayed a night in a 4-bed mixed dorm. The bed was cheap by Australian standards ($28) and the quality reflected the price. I had a top bunk and the handrail and foot of the bed almost came off when I climbed up (I'm only 75kg). When I lay down my feet poked through the metal rails at the end of the bed (I'm only 166cm / 5'6" tall). There were no pillows on the beds either.

While the beds are pretty awful and quite substandard the backpackers is quite chilled out with plenty of common spaces to sit. It is also clean. They must have a theft problem because plates and cutlery cost a $10 deposit that you get back after you return them.

Many people at the hostel seem to work on nearby farms. But they still seem to be short-term backpacker workers not long-term residents. Someone told me the hostel helps them get work and there is a bus from the hostel to and from the farms.

The 8pm balcony curfew and 10pm common room/alcohol curfew are strictly enforced. I was told that it was because the neighbours have complained about noise in the past. This is good if you are trying to sleep because at least there are no parties going on all night long.

You get what you pay for and $28 seems to be quite a reasonable rate in backpacker hostels in Australia at the moment so overall I'd say it was average. I'd stay there again if I were in the area. I've stayed in many better hostels. But also in many worse.

We stayed here for a night and arrived pretty late. If we would have had a choice of finding another place at that hour we would have, because the room and hostel in general was dirty!!! The NZ guy who welcomed us was really nice and helpful so we had a positive attitude upon arrival. It was so late that we just wanted to go to bed, but first I had to clean at least 20 long, dark hairs of my bed. The floors were really sticky (wear flip-flops at all times) and the walls and cupboards were full of stains and spillage from other travellers. In addition the blinds were broken and there were heaps of dust and dead flies in the window sill. The mattress was so thin that I could feel the planks under the mattress. The room would have been really nice if they had just cleaned it properly and fixed all the broken stuff in there. The pool was never an option to use since it was surrounded by dirt and empty beer bottles. When I complained before paying the staff was very unprofessional and there was never even an option of paying less than the 31 dollars it costed per person. Would never stay here again, and it is without a doubt the dirtiest hostel I have ever stayed in within Australia.
