“Great spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

We stayed at the Malibu for 5 nights. It has great views, with being right across the road from the beach. It is close to all restaurants and the surf club and the staff were very helpful. We found it a little pricey but will possibly go back again.

Room Tip: We were on the seventh floor. Really good.

My wife and I have enjoyed previous stays at the Malibu and have always rated it high. And even on this trip we were impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the furnishings etc. The location is great as it is situated right above the shops and cafes and is directly over the road from the beach. The surf ckub which is a great place to eat is only about 200 metres away.
Unfortunately this time we were allocated apartment no 5 which is on the second floor and has very poor views and no privacy. The pool and BBQ is in the same area as our deck and is only separated but a gate. The unit management are obviously aware of the lack of views because they have built a stage approx 400mm high where the outside table and chairs are located. If you stand on this stage you can get a poor view of the sea.
I think the moral of this story is to book direct with the property and ask questions about apartment location etc. In other words make sure that you are getting what you expect..
The location of unit no 5 certainly spoilt our holiday and for that reason we would be reluctant to chose this complex again

Have just returned from 5 nights at the Malibu. This hotel was recommended by friends and is in a excellent position right in the middle of the restaurant and shopping area on the beach front. The views from the apartment were as described on the website and were great.
We were on level 9 and the place was quiet at night except for some street noise on Sunday night.
The apartment was a little dated (but nothing a coat of paint would not fix) and was very clean. The bedrooms are well away from the lounge area and are quiet. Bathrooms are a reasonable size and the kitchen is well appointed.
My only real complaint would be the lack of internet access which I think a lot of people would consider an essential these days. In a recent road trip in the US, virtually every hotel had free high-speed internet access in every room. The lack of internet nearly changed my mind on staying at the Malibu.
Manager, Brian is very accommodating and helpful.

This was the first time we'd stayed at the Malibu Apartments and in fact, Mooloolaba, but we had a lovely time and would be happy to return. We loved the location and the views sped up the process of de-stressing and enjoying what the place has to offer. Thanks Brian, we'd happy to come back.

My mother myself and 8 month old baby where to stay for 7 nights pulled out after 5 nights we stayed in the penthouse with rooftop spa. I have stayed at the Malibu 10 years ago and the place and manager where so helpful and it was so clean (not now) The walls in the penthouse had holes room 20 floor 10. The switches on lights broken a leaky air conditioner that flooded the floor a dryer that would not dry clothes unless jammed with a mop.The pool was not in service on arrival we didn't even get a sorry from Brian the Manager it was out of action for 4 days out of our 5 day stay. But the straw that broke the camels back was on the last day of our stay we where sitting on the balcony to have water from the top floor come pouring down to my concern i raced to the top floor at 7.14am still in my night dress to find Brian emptying our spa i asked him "Why are you emptying it my baby and myself where going to spa soon before we leave" he replied " I have to for the next guests" I told him but checkout is not until 10am i have paid he replied well its empty now. We where to move into the other penthouse but i was so upset with the dirtiness and his attitude for our privacy i left
i requested a refund for my last 2 days and he refunded me with a cheque. I was sad on leaving as the Malibu had been a place i had spent a lot of time with my children when they where young it was a home from home i was so regular the old manager gave me discounts. Good luck Malibu with Brian at your helm you heading straight for a rock .

MalibuResort, Manager at Malibu Mooloolaba Holiday Apartments, responded to this review, March 19, 2011
Feedback forums such as Trip Advisor can be valuable tools for Resorts. However even though the review is one person’s thoughts it is a shame that comments are not checked for accuracy.

On arrival the guest rang for directions as she could not remember where the Apartments were as this would be only her second time at Malibu in 10 years.

The Rooftop Apartment in question is a very nice apartment, well fitted out and in very good condition. There are no holes in the walls as described apart from some minor damage to the base of one corner of a wall, which is part of our ongoing maintenance.

At no stage did the guest complain about the cleanliness of the Apartment. In fact the afternoon of Check In l showed the Apartment to a lady who was looking at it for her wedding. She was excited with the layout and complimented on the presentation and cleanliness.

The guest did raise that there were 3 cigarette butts on the roof area. This was correct obviously missed in the cleaning process as they were in the crease where the wall meets the tiled floor, l removed then immediately.

All lights and switches were in working order, the guest did bring to my attention that a 1 centimetre stick switch to a bed wall light was snapped, this light was still functioning. Due to the type of fitting the entire wall lamp will be replaced. That room still had 1 wall bed light, 1 free standing lamp and ceiling light all in working order.

The Air Conditioning Unit did leak some water due to an internal blockage. The Air-conditioning serviceman was on site within 3 hours of being called and had the unit back operating fully. Any residue water was cleaned up.

As part of our ongoing desire to improve our facilities the re tiling of the pool surrounds was completed and pool back in operation on day 3 of the guests visit.

On the morning of her departure I did empty the spa. This I have done previously to ensure that there is sufficient time to drain, clean, refill and heat in time for the next arrivals. l did it for this guest as well. Water drained from the Spa goes down a large drain on the roof, water did not cascade onto the balcony. If l am guilty of being to eager to have things right for guests then so be it.

At all times my dealings with this guest have been professional, and always prepared to assist. All her requests were met immediately. Even when she requested a refund for the 2 nights she had booked in the other Rooftop Apartment this was done immediately without fuss.

In regards to the personnel attack on myself, this is quite bewildering and is not worthy of comment except to say this is at the extreme opposite to our internal guest feedback process. Likewise our growth in occupancy and the high level of return guests mean we must be doing something right.

Apartment had everything you need for overnight, week or longer. Good views on balcony overlooking ocean. We ate out all 5 nights of our stay, plenty of excellent restaurants to choice from. Brian on the desk very helpful with arranging our transfers, car hire and trip to Australian Zoo at Beerwah, a must see.

It's a great location, right on the boulevard. And the upper floors have terrific views, especially the rooms to the north. We had the 'penthouse', which I wouldn't recommend, despite the lovely views. The additional benefit of spa, barbeque and courtyard are a bit negated by being up a narrow circular stair-case - not something you'd want to tackle with a plate of food and/or a glass of bubbly.
We also had apartment 4 on the first floor, which has a lovely big courtyard and barbeque - ideal for our family gathering and evening meals. Car park is handy, staff helpful but the rooms are nothing special.
Convenient, reasonable, good views, parking, quiet...
