5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This is my third stay at Smokey Cape and as always it was a very comfortable stay. Mary & Ken are very friendly and make your stay very comfortable. The rooms are fantastic, just like home. We had the best sleep and the facilities are great. The spa bath was just what I needed and the Breakfast was great. We will be back for sure.

Our visit to Smoky Cape was recommended by friends who visit there regularly. Tim and Jen say hi by the way haha. What a unique and beautiful retreat it is! Mary and Ken always had time for a greeting and chat and made us feel very welcome. The room was so comfortable, we slept very well, and so did our little dog who was treated as a welcome guest. They even remembered his name :) Breakfast was awesome, delicious and great coffee and tea. We loved the fact that it is a 'retreat'. Tranquil, a beautiful garden and privacy, couldn't ask for more. Quality all round! Thanks so much, we will be back.

What a superb breakfast experience! This beautiful cafe is located en-route to Smoky Cape Lighthouse (easy to find - look for the Bali Flags & Cafe sign), and was a much appreciated treat after the lighthouse walks. Setting is in a lovely garden, blissfully quiet. Great breakie menu, hubby had the "big breakfast" and I had the pancakes. In between our ooohs & ahhhs with our meals, we savoured exceptional coffee (there is a Barista Princess somewhere in their kitchen because our coffees were simply divine!!). All this served with the loveliest beaming smile.... we felt like long lost friends, or extended family. What a special welcome!
Delicious & plentiful food, yummy coffees, quiet surrounds made our relaxing 'brunch' just perfect.
Based on the comments we heard from the overnight guests (and our own 'day' experience), we regretted not staying here, however we definitely will do so next time we visit South West Rocks.

Great little out of town spot for a quiet night away. Very relaxed greeting from helpful owner. Good room and great value for money. The local club runs a courtesy bus on request which came in handy on a cold wet night that we didn't want to drive on. Terrific breakfast in the morning in the cafe. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay there.

My husband and I (both Sydneysiders) stayed at Smokey Cape Retreat on Sunday 3 June as a stopover between Gold Coast and Sydney. We were absolutely delighted with our stay and found Mary and Ken to be very welcoming and accommodating, and full of character. These things are important to anyone wanting to experience top notch comfort but with a with real, down to earth human touch. We had our medium sized, well behaved dog with us and Mary was very open to having us all there, provided we kept our dog on leash outdoors where appropriate, and at all times under control and quiet (we of course obliged). Our room was beautiful, warm and very comfortable and we were surrounded by a lovely garden/bush setting which we imagine would be a welcome respite in the heat of summer. We felt that the dogs and the bird that lived on the premises were a lovely touch. This setting, along with the old character features of the accommodation, really made us feel like we were a part of the historic region but also very cosy at the same time. Mary recommended a place for dinner (Sea Breeze) which we enjoyed very much also. The stay was topped off beautifully by excellent coffee and an extremely well cooked brekkie in the cafe (again, in a beautiful garden/bush setting) with really lovely, warm but professional service, and a good yak with all of the staff. I thoroughly recommend this place as a stopover or a place to stay longer term (the pool and tennis court look like a real winner in the warmer months). My husband will definitely change his usual stopover (at Port Macquarie) to Smokey Cape Retreat, and we both look forward to a longer stay with Mary and Ken next time.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be set out the same, all are very private with front and back access, and HUGE bat...

Booked for one night travelling from Sydney to Brisbane, met by a young lady obviously in a hurry to finish work at 4pm.
Room was okay but very badly lit,no way you could read after dark without a torch.
Bedspread was worn and did not give a very good first impression.
The mirror light in the bathroom was loose and did not work.
worst of all that the owners dogs started to bark in the early evening and did not stop until around 9.30 not conducive to a pleasant evening,we endeavoured to ring the owners several times but no answer.
Our booking included breakfast and when we arrived in the dining room we were given a breakfast menu and advised t hat some of the items required an additional payment of $5,looked mean why they could not just give you a menu listing the items you could have beats me.
When checking out the matter of the dogs and the mirror were brought to the attention of the owner, she appeared very defensive & the only commentwas that the dogs must have been pining for her as they were away all night & that unless they were told about items such as the mirror it could not be fixed. All in all not a pleasant stay.

We are regular visiters to Smoky Cape Retreat & were there only last week.
Mary & Ken, the owners are great people and nothing is too much trouble.
The same applies to Mel and her kitchen helpers. Always cheerful and welcoming, with great breakfasts and lovely meals in the cafe.
We like the lounge suite as it has a lovely big bedroom with comfy bed, plus the extra advantage of a seperate loungeroom and big bathroom - all very clean.
This room doesn't have a spa bath, so choose one of the other comfortable rooms if a spa is a must for you.
Bush setting, pool, great people accomodation and food - what more could you want.
