“Smokey Cape Lighthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

I have just come back from a nights stay at Smokey Cape Lighthouse and I can not stop talking about my experience in this magical place! Pat and Wendy make you feel instantly welcome and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and happy in your accommodation. There are beautiful walks to secluded beaches and uninterupted views up and down the coast. We stayed in the back rooms of the lighthouse keeper's cottage which were warm and cosy, and felt like taking a step back in time. When the sun began to set we found it hard to pick which beautiful veranda on which we could enjoy the views with our wine and cheese. In the end we also shared the view with some cute furry friends!
The breakfast was fresh and delicious, followed by a special tour of the lighthouse. Pat and Wendy made us feel very spoilt and I will definitely be back in the future!

Room Tip: I think any room here would have a magical view but the lighthouse keeper's cottage is cosy, his...

After living in South West Rocks a number of years ago I had always wanted to come back and stay at Smokey Cape because of its stunning location. We booked in for 2 nights and we wee not disappointed. !!
Of course the scenery was stunning, but also we were very surprised at the level of accommodation because it had recently been renovated.
Pat and Wendy were great hosts.
The breakfasts were very special sitting out looking at the ocean.
Great memories!!!.

Room Tip: The back room has the views

if you do not know 30 days in advance about extreme weather conditins the folowing become "excuses" that will not allow you to pospone your visit but seen as cancelling and you will loose your 50% deposit. We were boked to stay at B&B 7-9 March 2013
4/3 Clarence, Bellingen and Macley rivers all on flood warning after extensive evacuations, more rain is predicted. We had been evacuated from our home three weeks before and only given the all clear for another major flood on 1/3. We need to cross both the Bellingen and Clarence and drive on roads affected by the Macleay and feeder creeks to get to accommodation.
1/3 We phone to ask about conditins and speak to Christine who informs us that Pat and Wendy at wedding makes a note of my call and tells us to phone Monday when they will be back.
Mon. 4/3 husband phones again talks to Christine who is understanding and sees "no Problem" they discuss us not re-scheduling till after the weather is over.
Official road report arrival date 7/3 "South West Rocks road open to all vehicles with caution due to extensive pavement damage" 3 days before at time of "postponing also had "water over the road"
Owners are aware my 72 year old husband needs a machine to breath while sleeping, therefore extremely concerned about getting caught along road. Our families all put in to buy us the trip as a Christmas present we were really excited abut it. My daughter spoke at length with Wendy prior to christmas abut the gift and Wendy still remembered the conversation when I spoke with her to make the booking. Sunday 10/3 we had an abusive phone call from Pat who accused us of using the weather and flooding as an excuse for "cancelling" , he said that there was nothing to stop us from going. He shouted at and hung up on both myself and my husband when we tried to expain we did not want to cancel. He also accused my husband of lying and said he told Christine we were cancelling and that she had never said it was not a problem to pospone the visit.
We have spoken to fair trading and because there are no conditions on the cancellation policy the only remedy is to instigate legal proceedings which is not really an option for us financially. Nor does it help with the distress and disapointment caused to my husband and me, and the family who brought us the trip.

To get to the lighthouse it is a bit of a drive, but very much well worth it. It is a very steep walk to the top, so make sure you were running shoes. Once up at the lighthouse, the view is magnificent, and well worth the walk.

Room Tip: There is a bed and breakfast here and every room has the best view of the ocean.

This is a splendid place to spend a night or two. Arrived around 3 p.m - Pat takes you and your bags up in a little moke - with fish for the bbq, snacks and wine and plenty to read. Once you arrive you won't want to leave until you have to. The views are stupendous, and a tour of the lighthouse an excellent idea. Pat and Wendy are great hosts, they let us use their kitchen and as we had the two rooms in the B & B we had the place to ourselves. Both rooms are spacious, charming and the fluffy robes appreciated. Astonishing views from either verandah of the house, indeed I could see the ocean through the window from my 'loo. The whales leapt about - come on are they trained to do that ? - and there are some lovely walks nearby. A fab breakfast outside with the sparkling water beyond.

We stayed in the lighthouse keeper's cottage for 2 nights to celebrate a 70th. It was as memorable as it can get in every good sense. The setting and the closeness of this magnificent beacon together with the warm hospitality of Wendy and Pat made it. We were the only guests and we were allowed to use the whole place ourselves, including cooking a meal of snapper (from the co-op down the road) and a bottle of Moet overlooking the sunset on the south side of the rocky outcrop. In the morning we had the sunrise over the other side. Smokey Cape is close to South West Rocks if you want provisions but it is the solitude and the proximity and views of of the beaches and the coast that will live in the memory. The area is excellent for walking and the last bit up from the beach to the lighthouse is a short stretch at the end. The B&B is decorated as it should in a maritime flavour and there is a lot of information on lighthouses and the surrounding countryside available. There are two rooms and we had the front room to get the sunrise. Both are very comfortable and the breakfasts are great. The NPWS has spent a lot to upgrade and restore the whole facility and this is ongoing, ensuring that the whole experience is of very high quality.

We booked the 2 rooms for a night and had a wonderful stay.Views are amaziing, the sky is so clear. The rooms are immaculate with the attention to detail great.Breakfast was very nice and well done. The tour of the lighthouse was a bonus, made the stay even more memorable.
Loved the wind whistling outside! A walk to the top at night in the dark is a must.Heaps of kangaroos eating grass by the paths made a bonus for visitors too.
Thanks to Wendy and Pat for the welcome and attention.

Room Tip: The back room is smaller but has magic views.Front room has the 4 poster bed. Both have ensuites.
