“Good quality, a little pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

We enjoyed visiting here, and the food was good. We would have loved laksa, but these were take away only (a shame). It is particularly nice to be able to sit outside.

“Sambal - best Malaysian around Macquarie/ North Ryde”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Sambal is a nice place to go in the Spring & summer since they also have outdoor seating. I always notice a bunch of other Malaysians, the staff are mostly Malaysian (from what I can tell) and the food is quite authentic.

Like any restaurant they have some good dishes and bad ones. The char kway teow is good, the laska is good (tried it a fair bit and it seemed better when I went during the week) as well as some other small dishes like the loh bak.

Also have a range of deserts and sweets and of course Tiger beer (bottled).

Pretty decent value - not as cheap as Malaysian restaurants in the city.

“A Malaysian food outlet in North Ryde”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2010

You don't find many dedicated Malaysian food outlets in Sydney. This one dares to come out and put Malaysian in the title so it warranted a visit. The portions are very small for the prices they charge. Taste wise - you have to know what you want to order. The sambal eggplant was a big let down while the Inche Kabin Chicken (deep fried chicken) was ok. The only thing I enjoyed was good old Ice Kacang (shaved ice with syrup plus condiments). Parking is easy at the back of the restaurant. Service could improve greatly but it's not a place where you go for a quiet chat as the noise levels can be pretty high.

“Good place for a malaysian food hit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2010

A good place to go for a malaysian food experience. It offers hawker style lunches (try the Har Mee) and Sunday specials which highlights malaysian dishes not always available such as assam laksa. The prices are reasonable. the location along Lane Cove Road makes it a little hard to get to.

A lot of the dishes are available in low, medium or hot chilli content which may not be authentic but does allow everyone to get their preferred 'chilli' level.
