“Got snapped at by owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

I have been here for dinner on multiple occasions and food was always average and service was on par with other chinese restaurants (i.e. poor compared to western standards).

So went for lunch on Sunday and was busy as expected so they employed the standard ticketing system. To my surprise, the expected chinese restaurant service was absent but something much worse greeted us. The owner lady (or owner's wife) was manning the front and when we approached her to ask why she waved someone lower in the queue through (same number of people) whilst not offering us the table, we were snapped at with "Don't question me, sit down and wait your turn"

To give her the biggest benefit of doubt, perhaps her grasped of english may not be best so there may be a language barrier although she has been working at the restaurant for a number of years. Putting that aside, snapping at guests especially from an owner for me is completely unacceptable, even for a chinese restaurant. We promptly left and headed to Chatswood and would never return again.

On a positive note, at least we didn't sit down, then got snapped at and forced to pay for the experience..

You are welcome to go but just have this expectation in mind.

“Yum Cha without the hassle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

You know the drill.... You battle the traffic, pay through the nose for parking, join the darn queue, get herded into a tight table were you loose your elbows to the passing trolleys, feel like a goose because you can't remember the name of that exotic dish that you had last time, jamb the food in because of pressure from the frantic trolley jockeys, settle the bill & escape to the jostling crowds on the street.
Try this for an alternative. Drive to North Ryde, park in the huge free car park, sign in to the cavernous club, bypass the pokies & bars, go straight to the top of the building & enter this well lit room with great views over the Lane Cove National Park & the river, get comfortably seated amongst the mixed asian & western clientele, order drinks at club prices ( including the mandatory Tsingtao beers) & await the dishes that tempt you. We were there for the last Sunday of Chinese New Year but in spite of a full room were never pushed or hassled to take food ( respect & humour play a role). Keeping an eye on an adjacent Chinese group got us some special dishes to order. If you see something interesting on another table, call over a staff member & ask the question. (Warning... the bright yellow muffin like things conceal a volcanically hot custard which will melt steel).
On balance this restaurant leaves you feeling a whole lot better than most city alternatives.

“Best Yum Cha in Sydney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

It was a bit of a drive from where I live, but there's ample parking and this place is huge!

But the yum cha was absolutely perfect and service was standard affair for Yum Cha. Decor was cleaner than most. Definitely recommended especially considering how poor most Chinese options are in Sydney.

“Average seems to be the flavour of the day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I had been told about this place previously and how good it was. We went there as a family last weekend (it is family friendly). Staff seemed pleasant enough, although some were quite pushy when we explained we didn't want any food at that moment whilst we waited for a few more guests to arrive. It wasn't as if the place was full and there were no diners waiting outside for a table the whole time we were there. Frankly, the food lacked variety and was average to the taste. The same 2 or 3 trolleys seemed to be doing the circuit over and over.

“AVERAGE AT THE VERY BEST!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We came here for a yum cha fix today , however we left still craving a yum cha fix. The food here was very very very average , at the very best. It had no love. It was just very deeply fried greasy portions of dim sum. I have had much better yum cha elsewhere and will not be returning here. The restaurant itself is very very old , and the service is very slow. I know it is a chinese restaurant and I don't expect to see Australian girls pushing around the trolley , however the ladies pushing the trolleys could hardly speak English which made it difficult to communicate our order.
