“Excellent camp ground close to CBD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

We camped here for 4 nights with two children in May 2012. This campground is lovely. Full of trees, space and not a kids club in sight! Our children are 4 & 6. They had a wonderful time exploring the natural area, trying to find animals and insects and were thrilled to have a visiting possum eat our grapes which we accidentally left outside in the evening! THe staff were friendly and accommodating with us checking in at a late hour. We found it terrific to be able to camp so close to sydney city and we just walked to the station (about ten min walk with little ones) each day. At night we got our torches and started exploring. Such fun and a very relaxed urban stay. * I didn't notice any plane noise while we were there. Im sure there were plenty going past but we probably didn't notice as we knew we were staying close to the city...which means there is bound to be some noise!!!!!
We will definitely visit this delightful gem again. Keep up the great work Lane Cove. x

This park is located near enough to Sydney CBD and pricewise is good value for money, considering the cost of accommodation in Sydney. We camped there for 2 nights (supposed to be 3) but had to ask for a refund for the 3rd night, as we couldn't stand the noise made by planes screeching by every few seconds/minutes! The lady at reception initially refused to refund the money because of their policy - if we wanted that refund simply because we changed our mind about staying a 3rd night, that would have been fair. However, considering the situation - we were on holiday, camping to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet and there were the planes, continuously flying by to land at the Sydney International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world! The planes flew low enough for you to see the airlines logo on them, so you can imagine the noise they made. I think it's only fair that they inform you of this when you check in and give you a choice to stay or leave, seeing that their reception area seemed to be sound proof - you can't hear the planes while checking in. Anyway, the receptionist finally called the manager who agreed to give us our refund.

Pity about the noise caused by the planes, as the caravan park is a nice one. Very spacious grounds, with camp kitchen, amenities, hot water, gas for BBQ, all provided within close proximity to the camp grounds. The camping spots are about the most spacious we've ever encounted in a caravan park! Each camp site came with ample space + a side area for parking your vehicle. There is a big, very well kept cemetary at the front and the Lane Cove National Park at the back of this park which we thought would be great for peace & quiet as the park is way off the main road... and then came the planes. If you like spotting planes or don't mind them screeching by from 6am to 10.30pm or if you plan to spend your entire day out doing all the touristy stuff on offer, this would be the place for you. If you're a camper who just wants to plonk yourself in the park to relax the whole day, stay away - there are quieter, equally good parks in the region.

I haven't seen a better location for a park near a capital city! You can get there easily, straight off the M2 motorway, which is handy if you are coming up the Hume highway from Melbourne. We found this convenience very hard to top especially when we were towing a caravan!
We were greeted by a very nice lady in a parks outfit ( very credible and re assuring) and she checked us in promptly and told us all about the park!
Our site was level and very close to all the amenities including a TV and Internet room. The toilets are very modern and clean. Great water pressure in the shower! The park is very tidy and we learned later is part of a national park which makes it just so quiet and peaceful.
The other fantastic thing about this park is the location. You are about 2 klms to a massive
shopping center for all your camping supplies, food etc and you can see the city lights of Sydney in
the other direction. It just can't be faulted.
So here we are in this idyllic setting, amongst nature, taking in all the serenity when we noticed something, a plane flew over us making a final approach to nearby Sydney airport. Ok,that was great to see, oh there's another, and another, and another. We started to count them and there were about 15 in half an hour! The planes start about 4 pm and go right through to 8pm, about one every 2 minutes. Did this spoil my trip? Well no but they are pretty annoying and loud!
We enjoyed our stay here, we are a family of five with young children, there is heaps to do and the park is really safe for the little ones. On a brighter note I got to perfect my Tattoo from Fantasy island impression!

We stayed on an unpowered site during the peak Christmas Holiday season. This is the cheapest, bestest and cleanest accommodation you can get in Australia! Top location near the train, short ride to the city centre. Very clean shower blocks an good laundry facilities. We also enjoyed the wood oven pizza, which is a very special service!

We wanted clean, green and a different experience - well we got it at Lane Cove River Tourist Park. We had a cabin and with three big teenagers it worked well. The boys loved the wildlife and we loved the fact this was value for money. Congrats to Lane Cove for the proactive approach to recycling and respecting our environment. Also offered was Ranger led spotlight tours and Indigenous Cultural performances all free for guests. We also got the courtesy van to the RSL Club which was suggested by staff - great when you don't know the area and need a good meal at a great price.

We stayed in a Family Cabin. The cabin was extremely well designed, very clean and even placed well so you looked out the big picture windows in the living area and saw bush (with a glimpse of some high buildings in the distance). The staff we encountered were universally friendly and helpful. Access to North Ryde Station is easy as is access to a number of high frequency bus routes.

If you have to go to Sydney with a family, this is a great option.

Wow! my partner surprised me yet again with another unique experience and this was truly amazing. Tandara is a gorgeous luxury style of camping. The bed is raised off the floor and the room has a tv and all the little luxuries you would expect from a hotel. The mini bar fridge is stocked full of juices and drinks and there is fruit and snacks all complimentary of your stay. My only complaint would be that the staff were not very helpful with the mosquito coils and said they had none. We then drove to the shops to buy our own, only to later find some stashed under the bbq. Overall great stay and great location in Sydney however the service was poor. We felt un informed of where the utensils were and they could not be found untill we searched high and low, and found them also in the BBQ outside. who keeps utensils outside?
