My husband and I thought we would give Palate a try and I'm so glad we did. Firstly, the service was excellent from the moment we arrived. Our very capable waiter did not miss a beat; serving us quickly and thoroughly. As soon as we needed something he was there, at the right moment, anticipating our needs without being overly eager... engaging in just the right amount of dialogue and demonstrating a sound knowledge of the food and wines. He had a really warm and engaging style and was delightfully spoken.
They have a daily menu (how refreshing) and I chose a vegetarian dish, a healthy sounding quinoa, spinach, zucchini ratatouille with a salad of rocket, alfalfa and Persian fetta. The dish was so delicious. Really fresh ingredients, baked in an oval shaped ramekin. As a vegetarian I am often faced with the same old choices in restaurants, so it was a pleasant surprise to see something on the menu I'd never seen before. There was also a vegetarian entree which looked appealing. The portions were large, in fact I could only eat a quarter of the meal so I took the rest home with me. I am curious now to see if they offer a variety of vegetarian dishes in the future.
My husband chose a snapper fish dish and he said it was amazing. He also commented on the large portion size, saying that it was extremely generous.
We really liked the wines too. We had a Tasmanian Chardonnay. They also had top quality wine glasses. The atmosphere was conducive to talking. There was just enough background noise (music and kitchen noise) to raise one's voice without feeling self conscious, but not too much to be a distraction.
We will definitely go back. In fact we have made a breakfast booking there this weekend!!!
