Denise and Larry are two of the nicest and kindest people that you could ever encounter ... and the 2 dogs make the visits here even more welcoming! Unfortunately it seems on this site (and others like it) some people like to whinge about all manner of PETTY things (ash trays and animals) ... people who are just NOT HAPPY in themselves. Leura House has improved dramatically from the last owners - and had you really wanted a bad experience they would have been the ones to be "entertained" by! Keep up the good work Denise and Larry and don't change who you are ! :)

My wife and I returned to Leura after 25 years for a quality-time weekend away. We wanted to find a place to stay that offered a sense of history, easy walking distance to Leura mall, a decent cooked breakfast, comfortable beds with ensuite in big clean rooms, on-site parking, and friendly staff who care for their customers. We chose to stay at historic Leura House and we were certainly not disappointed. The building appeared to be built on the highest point in Leura. We could see glimpses of Sydney CBD from our bedroom balcony. Denise and Larry have done a great job in restoring the grounds of this magnificent heritage-listed building and they are more than happy to have a chat about where to eat and what to do and see in Leura. Their two old and well-behaved Golden Labradors had the temperament of guide dogs. Our stay was for 3 days (Fri-Sun) and we will be certain to stay again at Leura House when next we visit the Blue Mountains.

Having booked on-line we were looking forward to staying in a guest house with a lot of character however we were greatly disappointed.

On arrival the house appeared dark, messy, tired (decor & furnishings) and cluttered. Denise was pleasant enough although I agree with other comments re not being particularly customer service focussed nor it would seem interested in offering a similar style of comfort/experience as we are used to. We didn't like the ash-trays and smell of smoke just outside the building, large dogs making better use of the living area than the guests (we love animals but the owners seemed to be using the house for themselves first with consideration of the guests coming second), nor the signs around the house and in our room giving a clue as to the owners attitudes towards guests using electricity, linen and the impact on their bank balances. If we hadn't already paid a deposit we would not have stayed.

That said our room was clean, pleasant and warm and it was nice to be offered soya milk and gluten free bread at breakfast.

A lovely building that needs people who care about it and their guests.

Room Tip: We paid for a good room and this was our experience - we would go back or not recommend staying.

Thankyou Denise & Larry for a great stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. Lovely clean bathroom, hot shower, nice deep bathtub, great brekkie, good ole fashioned hospitality. A nice personal touch using everyones names to greet them Denise, Larry, thanks for the perfect poached eggs and the chocolate rose. Its difficult to please everyone in this industry, but we think your house is just tops, and we wouldn't hesitate to come and stay again.

We travelled 12000 miles to see the wonderful scenery of the blue mountains and upon recommendation booked a two night stay at Leura House. Sadly the stay turned out to be very disappointing. Upon arrival we were greeted cordially enough and were, we thought at the time, kindly invited to dine with Denise and Larry that evening, during our meal pressure was applied to buy some very overpriced bus tickets we resisted and were met by a very sullen attitude, in as much as the conversation became very stilted and Larry left our company to drink in another bar in the restaurant making us feel very awkward.
Things didn't get any better during the course of the stay, there were not hot breakfasts offered, Denise refused to make up our room on the second day, the room was dusty, there were offensive notices placed in the room advising us of the consequences of leaving lights on and misuse of linen all with reference to their bank balance.
The breakfasts were roor and sparse with tired cereals and fruit no saucers for cups and only just enough bread put out for toast, we even had to ask for hot water for tea. Upon reflection we should have asked for a refund or on the first evening sought other accommodation.

I cannot say anything good about out stay at Leura House which is a shame as the property itself is lovely what it need is managers that are aware of their guests and are service orientated which, in our experience, Denise and Larry are not.
