“Save Yourself”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2010

Stepping into the accommodation was like stepping into the past. A dirty, depressing, scary past. It felt much like the set of a horror movie when the witch at the front desk greeted us on arrival with a snarl and a bite. She should not be working in any form of hospitality. The place itself is rundown and overpriced at $170 a night. The carpet was worn, paint peeling and a general filth filled the accommodation. I was hoping for a relaxing, peaceful stay and was immediately put off by her scathing manner and the depressing dungeon of a room she led us into.

To avoid the accommodation we spent a long, but pleasant, evening at the pizza restaurant. The breakfast was basic and she cleared up the plates and food while we were still eating, keen to have us out. She also begrudgingly gave us our 'hot breakfast' after lecturing us on how much of a hassle it was as we had shown up at 9am, apparently too close to kitchen close time of 9:30 (it took them all of 2 minutes to undercook our breakfast). Customer service and any semblance of a smile is apparently too much effort at Avonleigh. On checking out we thanked her (only out of politeness) and she said absolutely nothing, turning and walking away from us. I am convinced she is a robot and a very rude one at that. Never again! We couldn't save ourselves...but you can.

My wife and I had the misfortune to stay at this dump over the easter long weekend 2010 and would like to warn everybody thinking of staying at this place.
They boast that they won an award in hospitality in 1987 and that is exactly where this place is stuck.
Our room at $200.00 per night over the peak period entitled us to stay in a room with a mouldy shower recess, mouldy ceiling to the bathroom because the extractor fan is broken and a sign to warn not to open the door or you will be fined $300.00 when the fire alarm goes off.
Dusty room, dirty sidetables with hair on them as they are never washed, peeling paint and cracks in the ceilings., pink, pink and more pink with a lovely tired boarder to accentuate the tired doggy finish. This room would not have been seen a paint, updated in 20 years +.
Please be very careful of the old hag who works the breakfast room who is rude and incredibly unpleasant who packs up your breakfast for you as you are still eating!!. Dont even think of questioning about the eggs as she attacked me because I had a dietary requirement question to ask....
I thought a B and B was about friendly personal service, good fresh breakfast and clean rooms.
We left after 2 nights and cancelled the third as we could not stand another night in this dump.

I thought the place was cute. Nothing fancy. The staff was very helpful and nice. The breakfast was not so great. I would stick to their toast and cereal. We never had time to try the lunch. The room was small and clean. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's home. The best part about this place, was that it was walking distance from the Blue Mountains. We ran to the mountains in the morning!

We were very disappointed with our accommodation, as the the website bears little comparison to reality. The dining room is more akin to a cafe and the cooked breakfast was unappetizing, with synthetic sausages and poor quality bacon. There is no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom. On top of this we were made to pay in advance, whilst better and cheaper accommodation is to be found in the area. The only positive is its excellent location and closeness to Echo Point and the Three Sisters.

Pleasant hotel, large rooms. Very quiet. We were told we were the only people staying in the hotel the night we booked in and that the owners wouldn't be there either so were a little concerned about being there on our own! It was busier the following night. 5 Minutes walk from Echo Point and on the tour bus route. Very friendly RSL club a short walk away with good food.

We booked The Avonleigh on the strength of their website and were very disappointed, the fantasy of the website bore little comparison to reality. There was no nice dining room with fine dining, the rooms we not as advertised and the cooked breakfast was disgraceful and inedible. On top of this we were made to pay in advance, I wonder how many guests have cut their stay short here ? Not recommended.

location was good for the Blue Mountains, but the place was ropey and i wouldn't recommend it. It is frequented by coach loads of Japanese tourists who get dropped off for tea in the afternoon. The place lacks atmosphere, the staff drift in and out. the room was small and we were kept awake by the noise of the refridgeration units in the kitchens near our bedroom.
