“Blue Mountains Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Took a budget room o/night just to enjoy the ambiance: – the lounges, staircase, pictures, ancient lift, leadlight, shared bathroom. Had high tea, played pool, sipped drinks on verandah, breakfasted in the wonderful dining room. It was very hot all day and sweltered without air-con. B/room had a plastic pedestal fan. Room had tea making plus discrete small fridge. Comfy bed. No swim pool. I took a deep bath in old-fashioned tub with window open to cool off, followed by an over-bath shower. Big bathroom area had plenty of space for ironing. Can't say whether suites/apartment enjoyed aircon, certainly there was none operating downstairs. Staff helpful. Undercover, although not so secure, parking at rear. Bit of a pull walking up the driveway for oldies. Delightful experience overall (...two days later weather cooled off!)

Room Tip: Budget room was small in keeping with era, but well kept. No aircon. Window looked over roofs. If...

We booked to stay in this hotel after walking through one Yuletide Festival ( in July) and putting it on our "must do" list.
From our initial contact at check in through to our pre dinner drinks, dinner and breakfast all staff were friendly and helpful.
We had dinner in the Grand Dining Room which was in all aspects Grand. Once again the staff were faultless and had knowledge about the menu. Our meals were lovely and certainly lived up to the menu descriptions. We had a pianist who played background music that we could still hear our conversation over. Although fully booked the dining room did not feel crowded.
After dinner we relaxed in the lounge rooms around the hotel.
We had a Colonial room which was perfect for us with its olde world charm captured in the stain glass windows and bay window seating.
Truly relaxing with a sense of style.
We intend to return in July to celebrate Winter here in the heart of the Blue mountains.

What a great time we have had at The Carrington Hotel. Loved the renovations and looking at all the photos around the hotel to see its previous history. The staff are excellent and extremely professional and helpful. Our only disappointment was that we missed out on high tea on Sunday afternoon (because we didn't book in.) We will be back again. Thank you :-)

A hotel with character, which after a complete renovation a few years ago has managed to retain a wonderful atmosphere from the early 20th century. Service was very professional. Reasonably pricey but worth a stay for those who want to escape from so-called 5-star soulless hotels. Iconic Carrington Hotel at Katoomba deserves a stopover!

Family and friends gathered in the Grand Dinning room for a 70th birthday celebration enjoying High Tea. The birthday man asked before we arrived, " I hope we are not split onto small tables" and we arrived to find the biggest table we have all ever sat at - long and wide and accommodating all to make it one of the best memorable birthday's for Sylvester ever. The range of yummy food was great, kids were well looked after with their own special plates including some special kids only food. All was enjoyed with champagne to toast and with fantastic warm and friendly service. Well worth the visit.

I took my daughter to stay for a night while we were back in Australia for a visit. My husband and I married at the Carrington 14 years ago, just after it re-opened and I have very happy memories of the place. It was lovely to go back, and we weren't disappointed. The decor is just as I remembered it, but it still looks fresh. The rooms are comfortable and the ensuite bathroom in our room was fitted with a modern shower and suite.
The continental breakfast included in the room price was good quality and offered plenty of variety.

Stayed here in November 2013. Beautiful hotel very well maintained with all the old Victoriain features, you really think that you are living in the Victoria days. Our room was really nice, very high ceilings, well heated as the weather was a bit cold, large and spacious and nicely furnished. Staff very pleasant and accomodating. Definately 5 star in every way.
