I've taken way too long to write this review, but only because I've struggled so to find the words to describe the experience. I have stayed at the Loft in Katoomba (one of Echo Point Holiday Villas' more beautiful properties) twice now (once in 2005 for 3 weeks, and this last time the entire month of May 2007) and both experiences were of course magical. Anyone who passes up the opportunity to experience the hospitality, service, luxury and charm of these properties will most definitely regret it for years to come.
As a tourist driven town, Katoomba has of course many different places one can find accomodations. But none are as friendly, hospitable or dare I say service-oriented as EPHV. Ross and his wife Kerry and their incredible staff made both of my stays more than memorable.
The Loft is a two story, three bedroom house located right across the street from a wonderful bush walk which will take you on a short and beautiful route to the Three Sisters and Echo Point. I got to finally experience this walk on my last stay and brought back with me some of the most beautiful photos I've ever taken. The neighborhood is extremely quiet regardless of the day. Even on a Sunday when there are the most tourists running around and parking up and down the lane, it is still 10 times quieter than any neighborhood I've ever spent any length of time in. I don't know why or how, but the Loft seems to keep a halo of peace and quiet around it at all times of the day and night.
The kitchen is an open style and is very well accomodated with cooking appliances and equipment. There is also a fully functioning BBQ outside which I did get the chance to use this last trip. The bedrooms are all quite comfortable and there are plenty of extra linens and towels available. The Loft has its own washer and dryer in a seperate laundry room (soap is always provided) and both work quite well. The satellite television in the living room upstairs, as well as the VCR and DVD all work wonderfully. There are also plenty of videos provided for a guest's enjoyment. The water pressure is more than adequate and the hot water is immediately available when you turn the taps on. Each bedroom has plenty of closet and drawer space and all the beds are quite luxurious and comfortable. The fireplace downstairs warms the entire house in a short period of time from a dead cold and keeps it that way the whole night through.
And now a word about service. I experienced my first and only problem with the loft on this last trip, which had to do with a broken slat in the master bed upstairs. As expected, Ross resolved immediately after I reported it and there was no problem going forward. The loft was also serviced once every 5 days as promised and with perfection every time. Any questions I had I knew I could call Ross or Kerry and would get the help I needed every time.
One last tip I'd like to share. Whether you stay at one of the cottages, the villas or (you lucky devil) the Loft, do take the time to chat up Ross about Australia, Katoomba, Echo Point, and most of all his life. He is one of the most interesting people I had the pleasure to talk with on my trips to Australia and I look forward to our next conversation! Thank you Ross and Kerry and all of your staff for two incredible stays in your good care and graces. I am looking forward to next year!
