“Fun and inexpensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2010

The food here was good, straight forward and excellent value for money. Good beer, (draught Guinness) and great inexpensive wine list. In fact we went twice, having had more than enough posh hotel food over the last weeks.

“Gorgeous steak and chips”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2010

We had a great Porterhouse steak and chips, good wine and loved the atmosphere. We liked it here so much we went back for our second night's stay in Katoomba.

“Avoid this venue until they replace their waitstaff . . .”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2009

. . . with a team which possesses a basic level of competence and politeness.

I've been to Old City Bank Brasserie a number of times over the past four years (arriving anonymously with groups of out-of-towners) and have found the staff consistently wanting.

As witnessed by another reviewer who was also there this week, the Old City Bank Brasserie waitstaff are unfriendly, distracted and unwilling (or unable) to answer basic questions. The sulky emo kids behind the bar obviously long for the end of their shift so they can give visiting tourists a final elbow and join their teen mates crowding the beer garden.

I am astonished that a venue like this, dependent as it is on the custom of visitors, can remain in business when its employees are actively rude (and most recently, outright antagonistic) toward unfamiliar faces.

Old City Bank Brasserie could be quickly brought up to standard by adult supervision, but until you see "under new management" posted in the window then go elsewhere.

“Went into the restaurant and asked what...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2009

Went into the restaurant and asked what the special was - "I've no idea - you'll have to go upstairs and ask", said the barmaid on the lower floor bar level. But surely if the menus are downstairs and the restaurant and ordering point is upstairs, one should expect the staff to know about the specials.

So we went upstairs and the waitress told us to 'wait' even though it would have been simple for us to find one of the empty tables ourselves. We were then ignored for a couple of minutes. Then we asked if we can sit on the balcony, we are told in a stern manner "no, you can't sit there". That was enough for my experience. Poorly trained staff who obviously didn't want our custom.

My rating on value was how it looked on other diners plates, and the value based on the menu which is about 20% more expensive than the where we went instead - the Savoy Restaurant opposite, where the staff couldn't have been more pleasant.
