“Old school pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Very busy pub on the main street, due to the fact that in my opinion Katoomba is lacking in bars/pubs (there are only 3). We arrived mid afternoon and were able to get a seat at the bar, which is where we stayed for a few hours. We enjoyed the atmosphere and playing Uno (a number of board games are available). The food was better than average but not fantastic.

“Lovely food, charming venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We arrived close to 9pm on a Friday night but were welcomed in by friendly staff. We had a very, very good meal here. Chilli prawns entree fabulous. Roast vege stack & beef & Guinness pie were very tasty and large in size. Dessert got a big tick. The music afterwards (downstairs) was hilariously bad!

“Historical atmosphere and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Located at the entrance to The Carrington, the Old City Bank Brasserie will satisfy the hungriest of travellers. The historical warmth is matched by a diverse menu that delivers. From the pork belly to pizza, each bite was delicious. We ate here twice and will return again.

“Surly Welcome and Terrible Food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

We went to Old City Bank tonight for dinner, three adults and two kids, and on arriving were treated with disdain by the surly maitre D as we did not have a booking. Apparently it would be hard to seat the 5 of us. We were reluctantly given a table, and on leaving noted that more than 3/4 of the restaurant was still empty! We ordered 2 of the salmon special, the gnocchi and 2 kids fish and chips. Not one of us finished our meals. The salmon smelt strange and was bland, the gnocchi was obviously the stuff you can buy in a packet from Coles, and even the kids commented on the chips being 'watery tasting'.
The main problem is that this well below par pub food cost us a lot of money. Twenty dollars for packet gnocchi in a bland sauce! Twenty six dollars for bland salmon in an off smelling fishy broth with noodles! Around the corner at another Katoomba establishment (Bistro Niagara) you can get fine, chef cooked french food for anything between 15 and 26 dollars a serve and you will want to lick your plate.
In saying all this, this review is a criticism of the food, and our initial welcome. Our waitress was lovely, and the Guinness from the Piano Bar was well poured and brought up to us with a smile.
We are locals. There is no way they can treat local families with such disdain, and serve such terrible overpriced food, and expect them to be back. Especially as there are a number of great, reasonably priced eateries around the corner.

“Good food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We tried the lunch and dinner menu both menus had plenty to choose from. My favourite was the beef and Guinness pie. They also have woodfire puzzas. Prices were very reasonable. Staff very friendly and attentive. The brasserie is owned by the Carrington Hotel.
