“We'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2010

Lovely friendly atmosphere where Sue made us feel welcome, settled us in, gave us all the relevant advice and then allowed us to chill out and enjoy the ambience. Great central location. Katoomba is such a beautiful place with much more to it than we had originall y expected. Melba House was our home from home - the Nigella inspired Banana cake ( which I had to take home with me because we were so full after breakfast) was divine. Isabella, Sue's little dog is also such a lovely affectionate little creature you can't help but relax and enjoy her company on that beautiful quaint wrap around balcony. Only thing to do now is get my husband to book us in again for Valentine's Day!!!

We were looking for a short break from Sydney for 3 days and tried the mountains for a change. The weather was unfortunately and unusually wet for this time of year ,which meant no golf but this wasn't critical.Overall this suited us, with a room with an open fire and no desire for sight seeing having been to the location several times before.Sue turned on a great breakfast and lots of firewood and DVD's and we added champagne.Loved the quiet location and its proximity to all of Katoomba's and Leura's facilities including some tremendous dining spots.Sue demonstrated a genuine desire to please her guests.

I had the pleasure of spending one night in Melba House for a weekend away in Katoomba. I was greeted by Sue and her lovely dog, Isabella, and spent the night in the beautiful Dame Edna suite, tastefully decorated in a lovely French provincial style, completely fitting in the beautiful mountains-style house. I had breakfast outside on the fabulous verandah overlooking the garden and marvelled at the quietness. Travelling alone, the free in-room WIFI is such a bonus! Having a self-contained suite, complete with sitting area, meant I had complete privacy and Sue's was unobtrusive but there if I needed anything.

I ventured out to get a coffee at the excellent cafe, Fresh - a great selection of cafes is just up the road on Katoomba high street, which is an easy and pretty five-minute walk away.

This is the best B&B I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world and I will definitely be back!

We needed a relaxing weekend away to unwind and searched high and low on the internet to find the perfect place. It was our luck that so many people raved about Melba House on Tripadvisor.
The first time that I spoke to Sue on the phone, I knew that we were going to the right place. On arrival we were greeted by Isabella and Sue who were both very friendly. From there we were taken to our room which was absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail from the furnishings to the home made cookies were perfect. The home made afternoon tea and breakfasts served daily were delectable.
Nothing was too much trouble for Sue to organise. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. It was like staying with a good friend.
As we reflected on our weekend away, we thought that the massage, the spa, the food and the beauty of the Blue Mountains were all lovely, but what really made our weekend away was our stay at Melba House.
We can't wait to go back again. We raved to our friends and family about our stay at Melba house and highly recommend it to all.

Our stay at Melba House was very enjoyable. I have food intolerances and usually find it difficult when going away. Sue was able to offer me a choice of foods for breakfast.
The accommodation was quiet, but close enought to walk to the shops.
The room was spacious, clean, very comfortable and beautifully decorated.
Sue is a wonderful host and makes you feel very welcome.

We found Melba House to be an excellent bed and breakfast positioned on a quiet part of Katoomba and situated a leisurely 10 minute walk from the main shopping area and a 15 minutes brisk walk from the train station - but note that Katoomba is a hilly town. Sue served superb breakfasts with a broad menu and generous servings which were freshly prepared. We had the choice of breakfast in the well proportioned room or on the verandah, taking in the morning warmth of the sun. Sue provided a personalised touch by making gluten free muffins (in recognition that the cakes on offer were not suitable for a ceoliac) and ensured that the breakfast was also gluten free. The house is situated in an attractive garden setting. Additional benefits include cakes, fresh fruit bowl, complimentary port and a lovely flower arrangement in the room. The room itself is very comfortable, large and furnished to a high standard. The bedding is up there with the best. And let's not forget to mention Issy the cavalier - she got us well trained in providing morning pats.

My wife and I usually stay at B&Bs on short stays, particularly in the country. My first reaction when I received a quote was that it was too expensive, but it read well so we decided to give it a try. We were well rewarded for this is a first-class establishment judged on our four criteria of location, host, room and breakfast.
Melba House (c1905) is located in a quiet residential area about 1000m from the railway station and 500m from the shopping and restaurants centre. Our Host Sue provided free transfers to and from the station so distances were no problem, albeit Katoomba is a hilly town! The circuit tourist buses also have a stop less than 200m away.
The House has three bedroom suites named after Australian Divas. We had the Dame Edna, which after inspecting all three, we considered second best after Dame Nellie (Melba). However, each is attractively decorated, well-equipped and maintained, comfortable and roomy. We slept very well.
Breakfasts were superb with a broad menu and generous servings freshly prepared and delivered to our room or to a verandah location at times of our choosing. Memorable.
Other notable features include an attractive garden, home-made "Devonshire" teas on arrival, scrumptious help-yourself cakes available all hours, a daily fresh fruit bowl and flowers in the room, and a very good DVD library for guest's use.
Dame Nellie Melba was regarded as hard-to-please, but she would have been happy here.
