“Old motel in need of some care”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

This is a pretty old motel, and it's quite rundown, verging on shabby. Despite that it was reasonably comfortable and the heating worked a treat, April in Jindabyne is getting cool. The restaurant had surprisingly good food, breakfast was OK if rather basic. There was a new owner/manager took over less than a week before our stay, so perhaps it will improve over time.

We stayed at Villa Siesta five times now and every time we had a lovely break. The location is very good - peacuful environment, away from the main tourist track, beautiful views and walks on the lake. The service was always good and friendly, and tasty dinners were available from Thursday to Sunday. More fruit on the breakfast menu would be welcome.

Room Tip: Larger rooms are more expensive but have better view of the lake, balconies and spas.

Stayed 2 nights in a spa room. One of the largest motel rooms we have been in! The balcony overlooking the lake would be fantastic in slightly warmer weather. Fantastic shower (no running around the shower to find the water here).
The spa rooms have been renovated and are very comfortable but the rest of the property looks tired and also needs some TLC.
The new managers were very friendly and welcoming.

My stay at Siesta was purchased with a Living Social voucher. As I was taking a friend (and not a partner) I asked for a room with seperate bedding. For a small fee, David the owner upgraded us to the spa deluxe room. Im not sure what the other rooms are like but this room is beautiful. Recently upgraded, the room was modern yet still had that cosy country feeling with the gas fireplace and beautiful views overlooking the lake. The two king size beds are at either end of the room which is super spacious and each have their own mounted flatscreen so your not always in each others space. If you are going with a friend and plan to stay in the spa deluxe, just be aware the there isnt a bathroom as such, the toliet is situated in the middle of the room and is enclosed with frosted glass, as is the shower so the silhouette of the person is quite visable (lucky we are besties!) which I guess wouldnt be a problem if you were staying with your partner. I would highly recommend that couples take advantage of the spa deluxe as the spa, fireplace and views would make for a lovely romantic weekend away. The dinner's at the motel's resturant were fantasic and the staff were very welcoming. The resturant leads onto a spacious room with a fireplace and couches where you can curl up and read a book with a good glass of wine. This area opens up to a large outdoor decking area which would be awesome in the warmer months. There is also a games area seperate from the resturant to entertain the children. In my opinion, worth a visit!

Room Tip: The spa deluxe is a must for couples

Siesta Villa is currently undergoing renovations which may be more complete when you read this. Its location is just out of Jindabyne (about 5 mins drive) on a lake. Its quiet, with a pool table and lots of room to run for kids. The new managers are friendly and from here you can visit Thredbo and mountain walks/bike rides. Lots of activities planned in the town for Easter. The motel is more reasonably priced than most in this tourist area, due to being a bit run down and out of town. It still makes a descent family holiday.

The refurbished Spa Deluxe room has a narrow layout which made full usage of the space available. From the door is the main en-suite with a modern set-up & a wall mounted LCD TV with DVD player. Walking further down between the ensuite & bedroom are two peculiar glass enclosures on either side, one is the shower & the other is the toilet. I thought it was a very innovative idea by saving space & maintaining an open feel to the room rather than creating a separate closed off bathroom. The last section is the main bedroom with king-sized bed, gas fireplace & a 2-person spa opposite the bed. A full wall-sized glass sliding door opens out to the raised wooden balcony with views of lake Jindabyne, green pastures & the rolling hills behind it which helped create a relaxing vibe during our stay. A thick layered curtain completely blocked out all sunlight in the morning while a thin transparent curtain was good during the day to filter in the Jindabyne sunshine.

This room really serves well as a romantic retreat, having the spa & fireplace opposite the main bed is a really great idea. The Spa Deluxe room has a lot of space, probably 3 times the size of a city hotel room making it a very comfortable stay. Other small things that stood out from the norm were the double bathroom cistern sinks for him & her, a shower with enough space for two people, new drawers & storage cupboards, 2 LCD TV’s, a large leather couch comfortable to fall asleep on, heated towel racks & down lighting helped set an ambient tone at night. The only real thing missing is a large wall-sized mirror which a lady would never complain about. Being located away from the commercial area of town we woke up to very little noise & crisp mountain fresh air from our balcony.

The hotel has a central bar, dining area & games room with pool table & lounges which seem family friendly. They aren’t 5-star resort quality with quirky city tastes, rather they are more functional. Without any doubt the star of the dining area is the beautiful view. A tinted glass wall allows all the beauty of the lake, green pasture land & mountains to set a great mood in the dining area. The hotel buildings resembles a Spanish villa design with Moorish arches & walls rendered smooth in the typical cream colour surrounded by trees & plants in some areas.

We greeted staff warmly who returned this in the form of professional & friendly service. They doubled as the reception & bar staff but found time to help make our stay pleasant. We had called in earlier to ask if they could move our reservation forward one day which the hotel manager accommodated for us immediately without any extra cost which helped us make better use of our time in the Snowy Mountains. I mentioned to the gentleman helping us turn on the fireplace that we were here celebrating our engagement & to our surprise & delight, staff had left a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket & 2x glasses in our room after we returned from dinner. This was enjoyed in the spa with the room illuminated by the glow of the fireplace & our laughter at such a great night.

The hotel is a short 10 minute drive from Jindabyne & its restaurants but would be a bit of a walk on foot & not really advisable, just off the main Jindabyne road.

We're staying here as part of a 3 night package we purchased. I have just read with interest, the previous review by Nic B, who complained about his experience. Firstly, I most certainly am not saying that his complaints were not valid, but I'm always wary of excellent or really bad reviews written my someone who has only contributed 1 review to Tripadvisor. Toilet roll holder? Really Nic, is that something that needs to be complained about?? If everything is upgraded, I am quite certain that the price of the rooms will go up as well.
When I made the booking, I was given the option of upgrading to a spa room but declined. I thought we'd wait until we arrived, and if disappointed would ask if we could upgrade. Frankly, when we arrived, I was a little disappointed in the bathroom, and some of the furniture. We asked immediately about upgrading, but they were fully booked that night, so we settled in. Good points about the room.........new and very comfortable bed with spotless white sheets. Excellent value for money, as rooms include continental breakfast!. New medium size LED tv and DVD player and new smart coffee table. Very efficient central heating. New carpet and flooring.
Bad points, and considering the price I should not even be mentioning, but feel I need to validate a few of Nic B's quite scathing points. The cupboard, drawers and kitchen cupboard are old, but are clean, painted white and do the job quite nicely. The vanity in the bathroom is very old as well, but everything is very clean. The room has tea and coffee making facilities, and basic shampoo and bath gel provided. No air con, but I don't think you'd need it all that often, and possibly only in the middle of summer. We're here in April and it's cool/cold.
The restaurant is excellent and good value with most meals around $25. We have eaten there the last 2 nights, and would be tonight but being Sunday it's closed for dinner (was open for lunch) so will be trying the Persian restaurant in town.
Breakfast is 5 cereals, toast, yogurt and tinned fruit. More than enough for breakfast and it's included. If you want a cooked breakfast, it's an extra cost, and the same chef at night will cook it for you. The reception staff double in the restaurant, and couldn't be more polite and helpful. Not many staff will ask you how your day has been in the evening and stop and talk to you in the morning as well. Siesta Villa is highly recommended if you want budget accommodation that's clean with super friendly staff, and a great restaurant. It is a 6 minute drive into town, so nice and quiet.

Room Tip: If you're very fussy, book a renovated spa room
