Travelling on holidays as a family of 5 (incl 2 Seniors & a 2yr old) we required two rooms and booked online the day prior, purely based on their website. NEML appeared modern, with all the amenities / comforts and we were relatively happy to pay the price per room(s) based on what we assumed we were getting (never assume right?!). Although I don't believe the website had technically misled us, the web designer had done their job extremely well.....it looked wonderful (it looks modern even from the road)
The online booking had worked without any issues and at time of book-in my parents had actually been offered an 'upgrade' at no extra cost in order to keep us together, which was very much appreciated.
The gentleman on reception turned out to be the owner and appears to be doing everything himself, as he was there early the next day to take our order for breakfast and to wait on us. Lovely guy and actually felt sorry for him. He did look tired and stressed. Unfortunately, in order to perhaps keep overheads down, the room cleanliness had slipped and even the tables/dining room was still dirty from the night before.
Prior to breakfast (which was basic but not over priced) we had declined the in-room morning tea/coffee available, as the teaspoons in our room were still dirty and the stained kettle couldn't be opened to see what was still sloshing around inside! Luckily the motel is close to a McCafe, which was a 20 second walk.
Like other reviews, our two rooms were in dire need of a deep clean and a lick of paint. There was a contraption on the wall which did emit warm air but without a thermostat, so temps were not controllable - on or off. Not sure what you do in summer as both rooms were not air conditioned? The single beds electric blanket wasn't working so our 2yr old got an extra singlet and pair of socks at bed time! Choose your rooms carefully and read the descriptions/inclusions well so as not to avoid disappointment.
Beds appeared clean and were actually quite comfortable (carrying a pillow from home). Towels were clean and adequate.
I have to be honest, we won't be calling in to the NEML again, purely based on this one experience. I hope the current owners are in a position to focus on getting the basics right and turn things around......sincerely, good luck
