“Comfy and cozy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here as part of a coach tour and were treated wonderfully by the friendly staff who made us an excellent dinner. Clean and cozy rooms and short walk to shops and eateries. Highly recommend to everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to review Sovereign Inn Cooma. We do have a lot of coaches stay with us and they enjoy their "home away from home". I hope we will see you when you come back to explore more that Cooma and the Snowy Mountains has to offer.

We found this gem on our way to visit relatives & were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the hotel & the friendly managers.

Kevin & Sharon were very helpful (and not elderly as the previous review states!) and recommended several places for us to eat & visit in the area. We had breakfast in the dining room & there was lots of choices and good portion sizes.

Our room was very clean & self contained with 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms, perfect for a family. There is several food options across the road which is great.

Overall a great experience, we will definitely be back!

We stayed one night on our way to Thredbo and it wasn't a good experience. The location of this establishment isn't bad but that's about all we could recommend. The walk-in room rate seemed average until we actually saw the room. It was very small, very dated and a little musty. The only window was facing a fence and a back alley. Everything was very basic and "tired" looking. When we checked in, we paid up front and asked about dining options .. it wasn't open for dinner but a couple of other places were recommended. As for breakfast, "... not before 8, we're sleeping in", we were told by the elderly couple at reception. The bathrooom has the liquid soap and shampoo/conditioner dispensers on the wall (which I hate). The toilet sometimes had trouble with flushing. It was very difficult to fill the kettle for a cuppa as the bathroom sink was small and had older tap fittings. In fact, most of the fittings in the entire room were older. The smoke alarm went off after one of us had a shower!

We had the worst sleep or lack of! Our room was opposite the drive-in entrance from the highway, but that wasn't as bad as the barking dog that wandered into the motel grounds in the very early hours of the morning. Whether the owner's dog or one off the street we couldn't determine, but it barked for what seemed like hours. We heard a female voice trying to "shoosh" it which only aggravated the situation. Quiet for a while, then the dog started yelping and howling for ages. My husband at this point, opened the door to investigate but that only started the dog barking again. He couldn't see the dog but could hear from where the noise was coming from .. outside a few rooms down. It was strange, because ours was the only car in the carpark and I don't think there were any other guests. It was just unpleasant all round and we left early in the morning .. tired, angry and hungry.

Never again, we would not stay here nor recommend the Sovereign Inn.

Room Tip: Drive on, don't stop.

Thank you for your review.
As you left early in the morning we were unable to apologise personally for the disturbance caused by the dog. Unfortunately his owners had shifted house that day and he escaped and was trying to find his way "home" - a very distressed dog who would not let anyone approach him. We finally managed to release him from the tree he had wound himself around and his owners found him. Please accept our apologies for this, unfortunately it was out of our control.

We stayed 1 night on the way to the snow. The family executive was exactly what we were after...warm, clean, comfortable beds etc. The hotel is easy to find & fairly central to the CBD. I would definitely return to the Sovereign.

My partner and I were after some cheap & cheerful overnight accommodation en route to the snow and we booked here through an online deal. The place was spotless and the hosts were friendly. They even rang us to let us know we'd left some of our food supplies in the fridge after checking out. We'll definitely be back next snow trip.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another ski season - but don't forget the Snowy Mountains are a great summer adventure playground as well.

We arrived at this hotel at 7pm, 1 hour after our original estimated arrival time of 6pm. At check-in we were berated for not having left a mobile number on the booking form as the man and woman behind the counter wanted to go home and couldn’t contact us to find out what time they would be able to leave. The booking form indicated that reception was open to 9pm so I don’t understand why this was an issue.

When I booked the room, I requested a room for 2 adults and 1 child on the website. I assume the options presented indicated that the maximum occupancy was for 2 people only, however I did not notice this. Upon arrival at the hotel, our request as to whether it was possible to have a third person (my 9 year old son) in the room was met by an expletive laden rant. The language used was abusive and completely inappropriate for use in the reception area of a hotel, let alone in front of children. Our booking form was thrown at me and my son was so frightened that he had begun to move towards the exit. This issue was blown out of all proportion as there were plenty of available options. We could have arranged for myself and my son to stay in the Sovereign Inn and to find alternative lodgings for the second adult. Perhaps they could have even assisted to find alternative lodgings?? Not likely....

The behaviour of the man behind the counter was so intimidating that we had no choice but to leave. We then found alternative lodgings in town quite easily.
