“Why didnt I stay here sooner...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2009

I travel to Sydney for work from the States often and decided to stay close to the beach this time. While in Sydney and Melbourne I stayed at the Intercontinental's which I would agrue this was better. Service was amazing. Staff was friendly and so helpful I couldnt even begin. They upgraded me to a Ocean View room with a corner balcony. Room was large, 2 flat screens, and modern. I cant say enough good things about this hotel. I spend around 90 nights a year in hotels and rarely write reviews. This takes the cake for my #1 hotel stay of the year. I would recommend this hotel to families/business trips/couples vacation.

For a hotel that aims at business travelers, Crowne Plaza Coogee beach leaves much to be desired. The bellboy, for instance, who was supposed to bring an item to the room, disappeared. After 10 minutes of waiting, we went to the lobby to inquire, only to find him chatting merrily with someone, the item on the floor. The maid occasionally left items in the room: a mop, a window cloth. Odd. But the real trouble is in the greedy business services. Old style wired Internet in the room? AUD 30/day. Want to sync your iPhone, prepare to shell out AUD 480/day for wireless internet, available in the lobby only (yes, that's four hundred and eighty dollars a day, conveniently billed at twenty dollars per hour). A free option? try the business center, where use is free, but only for one hour... Despite the wonderful breakfast and the pleasant F&B staff, I'm not returning here for a business trip.

It was more luck than planning that brought us to the Crowne Plaza Coogee Beech – they had such a good rate on sale that we went right ahead and booked 3 nights.

The hotel is almost perfect in an effortless, easy going manner. The lobby looks great, the pool area is exactly right, reception is very friendly and in most cases efficient, staff everywhere is helpful, sometimes way beyond what you would expect. The room is good size, well equipped, new and clean.

Our rate got us a 'Village View' room, which means view to the rear, away from the beach. However as we preferred a king bed we were moved to a pool view room the next day, when one became available. Looking at the rates upon our return home this is definitely worth paying a bit extra as the view to the ocean is really fantastic. Moreover the king bed room layout is such that the bed faces the window, which is a nice touch.

Location is perfect for a holiday away from the city centre. The area is pleasantly busy in the weekend and there is always the option to take the bus to the city or a taxi to Bondi Beach (~$15).

We would recommend this hotel to anyone without hesitation.

After a few nights in the city we arrived at Coogee Beach and were fortunate to be able to check-in early, leave our luggage and get on with the day. Our Platinum Prioirty Club got us a room upgrade from Village View to Ocean View, which was nice. The room was bright and modern and imaginatively laid out. The bathroom was tiny, with rather average water pressure to the shower but it did have a full-size bath tub, which is lacking now in so many places. We didn't use many of the facilities as we were out and about all the time though we did use the free Internet access in the Business Centre, which was handy.
The hotel's car parking is expensive but if you only need to leave the car overnight, the staff can point you to places in the surrounding streets where you can do so free of charge.
The only downside was that when people were sitting on the balconies to the neighbouring rooms, you could clearly hear all of their conversations. This wasn't a problem for us as the weather was gloomy and few people were sitting outside! However, in a full hotel on a summer's night, it could be quite noisy.
In summary, it is a relaxing hotel with friendly staff and an informal atmosphere and if in this location on another occasion, we would stay here again.

The Crowne Plaza is in the heart of Coogee Beach and you can walk to a ton of cafes and the beach from the hotel. However, it's not on the beach - you do have to cross a major street and walk a little bit to reach the beach, but it's an easy walk and no problem. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I had booked a ocean view king, but they had none available so I was upgraded for free to an oceanfront room, which was great. The room was clean and spacious and the view is really worth paying for. It also has a nice balcony for just sitting and enjoying the view. It's a short walk to a major bus stop for both the Bondi Explorer and the regular bus system so you can get anywhere in Sydney pretty easily from here. The cab ride from the airport is about $40. There's a pool in the hotel but when you're next to a spectacular beach like Coogee, who needs it? The best part of the room was an incredibly deep tub that actually fits an adult and lets you fill it up - perfect for relaxing after a long flight.

A great hotel right across the street from the beach. The front desk staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area. A gorgeous parks system runs along the coastline, and this hotel is a wonderful starting point for exploring the Australian Coast.

I stayed here with my Husband for over a week on our honeymoon. This hotel is an ideal base. The beach is right across the street, a bus stop out side the door and some of the nicest staff you could ever meet. The duty Manager Sky went over and beyone to help us out after my Husband lost his wallet. She went as far as giving us Cash and letting us charge everything to our room untill we got sorted with new cards. The hotel has under ground parking which we never once had to pay for, the room we had over looked the pool and had a great sea and beach view. we looked right over to where the coogee to bondi walk starts. The hosekeeping in this hotel is excellent. the cleaning staff are even friendly. I often stayed out on the balcon having a coffee and reading my book while they were in the room. The room service was excellent, the food was always lovely. What I liked about this hotel is you could go get pizza from down the street and not worry about walking thru reception with it. you could order food to be delivered and the hotel reception staff would alway call to say it was down in reception. We stayed in the Crown in Melboure and the westin in Sydney city and this was the the first hotel we could just relax in . we didn't feel we had to be dressed up to go down stairs. Over all when we go back to Sydney we will be staying in the crown plaza coogee with a heart and a half. We both lived in darling harbour in Sydney in 2005 but our stay in the crown plaza made us fall in love with Coogee.

Dear Mrs Reidy,
Thank you for you kind comments regarding your stay with us. I was delighted to read that Skye was able to assist with your finances during your stay and due to your unfortunate circumstances, was able to waive our normal parking charges.

I have shared your positive feedback with the rest of our team, in particular Skye, and our Housekeeping and Food & Beverage staff who all contributed to making your stay so memorable.

Hopefully you will have the opportunity to visit us again in the future!

Kind regards,
Belinda Key
