“Great Short Break Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2008

Stayed two nights in late December 2007 with my wife. The location of this hotel is one of it's strongest points. It is located across the road from beautiful Coogee Beach and is surrounded by some fantastic cafes and restaurants.

The views from the restaurant are magnificent. The food is of a very high quality and the service is exceptional.

The pool was very nice (but a bit cold) and I was disappointed that the spa pool was not heated.

All in all - well worth a visit.

This hotel is at Coogee Beach, so not a place to stay if you want to be in Sydney City. Having said that, Coogee is a great place - nice beach, great pub, good local shops. It is less hectic than Bondi.

The hotel does everything average and nothing exceptional. Rooms average; Bathroom average (if a little small); Breakfast average; Staff average.

  • Liked — Close to beach
  • Disliked — Nothing was exceptional. Did I mention that it was average?

I find it very high price for the value.

Be careful they sell "ocean view" rooms which actually have ocean view only on the edge of the balcony.

I asked to change and then they offered me another room with a smaller bed, no bathtub but with ocean view but with an annoying plane like noise on the roof (I was staying in the last floor).

The rest (cleaniness, bathroom,...) is ok but not exceptionnal.
The staff may be arrogant sometime...

Stayed here in for a work conference - rooms reasonably sized given I was sharing with someone else. Bathroom small. Conference room for larger parties (we had 23 people) are just 2 rooms with the dividing wall opened, but this didn't open right up so we spent a lot of the time trying to look around the wall. Buffet breakfast is OK - dishes not replaced nearly quickly enough, and an average spread as well.

I really enjoyed this hotel. It's not a hotel you stay in for it's own
sake, it's the 2 minute walk to the beach and the lovely pool that make this place work. The location is just great (although it's ruined
the landscape of the town), my room was very good - nice big bed, balcony views over the ocean and the pool. The only problem with the room was that the TV didn't have any international channels tuned in.

The staff we're OK, but they suffered the usual Holiday Inn front desk
problems of seeming to always be too busy doing other things like paperwork and answering phones to look after their guests really well.

  • Liked — The pool and the beach
  • Disliked — Distracted staff

We found the Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach to be nice. Its location was perfect: near the beach and many eateries on adjacent streets, and away from the hustle of downtown Sydney. The rooms were recently refurbished, although this consisted mostly of new carpet and fresh paint. The staff was very nice and helpful. Our only issue was the cockroach in the bathroom in the middle of the night. I know it's tough to keep pests out of a large hotel, but this was the first time I've ever seen a cockroach in my travels.

  • Liked — Great location, great deal, nice view.
  • Disliked — Cockroach in bathroom.

We stayed at this hotel twice within a fortnight (three nights each time). It wasn't cheap but it was really well located, close to Coogee Beach with a great view from the balcony, close to an excellent range of eating places and easy to get to the city. Bus stops at the door. Staff were helpful and pleasant. A buffet breakfast was included for one of our stays but was not of a really high standard - unless it is included as part of a package we would recommend eating in one of the local cafes. Undercover parking was available but quite expensive.
