What a hidden gem, this B&B is. Mt Lyell Anchorage is a beautifully and thoughtfully restored old mine managers residence dating back to 1896. The beautiful old fireplaces have been uncovered and timber stripped back showing all the old period features of years ago. As well as fireplaces in the bedrooms, lounge and bathroom off the master bedroom, all rooms have central heating and electric blankets. Lovely bathrobes await you and even the finest touches with lavender scattered over the central heating and fresh flowers add that really homely touch. The hostess couldn't have been more helpful and organised our booking for the Gordon River Cruise that leaves from nearby Strachan. The kitchen is well and truly equipped to cater for all your needs with plenty of breakfast provisions for all. It was so nice to come home after a day out exploring to relax in the lounge infront of the fire (wood well stocked up). A BBQ is also outside for a relaxed evening meal and the supermarket only a block away for extra provisions. We truly thought Mt Lyell Anchorage was our home away from home. Queenstown is the largest town on the Tasmanian West Coast and is home to the Mt Lyell Mining & Railway Company and the West Coast Wilderness Railway. There are great walks to be had as well as trout fishing in the surrounding lakes. The township of Queenstown was originally developed to service the surrounding copper mines and is located in the Queen River Valley. We are glad we stayed here instead of at Strachan, as Strachan only has the wharf area where you catch the boats for the Gordon River Cruises, something that must be on your to do list when visiting this part of Tasmania. I would highly recommend this B&B for its charming atmosphere and friendliness of the hostess who couldn't do enough for you, and we will definately stay there again when next in the area.
