“Great time in Airlie at the Peninsula”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

My family of 5 had a great stay at the Peninsula. The apartment was very clean with modern, comfortable, furniture and a great view of the harbor. John and Sandy were great hosts and very helpful (not the least with finding a router). We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed in a two bedroom appartment on the first floor with uninterupted views of able point marina. The appartment was fitted out with everthing you need. Staff were friendly. Location great (close to everything, only a few minutes drive either to airlie or cannonvale), walks along the boardwalk to cannonvale or into airlie were lovely (about 30 mins, you enter the boardwalk from near the front gate).
The only dissapointment, and it was a big one, was the appartment was NOT entirely clean, especially the kitchen (quite dirty, i did mention the nasty pong coming from the insinkerator but any attempt staff made did not get it clean), laundry not cleaned, the bathrooms were mostly ok, so a trip to buy cleaning supplies and an hour or so later we had the place sorted (not what i had in mind for the start of my trip but it needed to be done so we could then enjoy our stay!). The linen and towels were all clean, as were the furnishings and floors.
You have very easy access to barrier reef tours and ferrys being only a few minutes walk away, you can watch the comings and goings of the ferry services and boats from the balcony.
Cars are parked in the underground car park via security gates which all worked well.
Would have rated 5 if the appartment was properly cleaned throughout.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook able point marina with a northerly aspect.

We stayed 3 nights at this apartment prior to a trip sailing in the Whitsundays, and I am pleased we paid the little extra as the location was brilliant, it is about a mile away from the main street in Airlie which is full of gift shops and loud bars (great if you want that but not if you prefer pleasant quiet places to stay). It is also not up a hill (most of the accomadation in Airlie is built into the hills which are very steep). From the Peninsula there is a level walk around the seashore to Airlie. The appartment itself was five star, it was also clean and well equipped with a ice makers, able rooms and seating and a washing machine and dryer, perfect for when you have been travelling for two weeks. The balcony was a delight it had 2 sun loungers and a large table and six chairs, so breakfast and dinner were spent there overlooking the marina. It also had a small pool which was very pleasant and quite.

Have recomended to friends already.

Pro
Good room design
Good view
Quiet mostly

Con
Cup dirty, dishwasher detergent inefficient
Not suitable for families without car or with young kids, long distance to walk anywhere
Have to pay taxi wherever you go
Shopping not convenient at all
No restaurants close by
Half hour walk to shopping strip
Very small pool on premise
Definitely not worth 379 per. Night, would put value to around 250 / night
The price should include a rental car and daily room service, there is much better value around, just choose wisely...

We stayed in a two bed penthouse self catering apartment in the Peninsula for a week in October. It was immaculately clean, full of all the mod cons you could want including ice maker, refrigerated water on tap as well as the usual kitchen appliances. There's plenty of different seating areas in the apartment including a large balcony overlooking the marina. The beds were comfy and it was quiet at night as it is away from the main centre of Airlie Beach (approximately 15-20 minutes walk). It is also very convenient for the host of boat trips on offer. To sum up the Peninsula is a little pricey for Airlie Beach but worth it and we would definitely stay there again. The only thing it lacked was wifi although there was an unlimited cable internet connection included in the apartment.

We spent a week at The Peninsula in September. It is clean, modern and the 2 bedroom penthouse we rented had everything you could want. It is located near Able Point Marina , about 20 minutes by footpath to the main drag of Airlie Beach, well away from the pubs etc. we had a great bacony which overlooked the marina, and you could see loads of fish & rays from it each day. The staff were really helpful & can book trips etc for you, but you are left pretty much to yourself which is great for us. Only negatives were no WiFi which is a pain although you can get a cable for Broadband and a BBQ would be great too!

Negatives: Click Clack Lounges. Management hard to contact - we had a fire alarm go off due to burnt toast & were not able to get through to anyone to let them know everthing was ok. We did leave a message but there was no response. Lots of dirty dishes we had to clean before we could use them. $500 bond charge which was not mentioned when booking - that was a big surprise! No BBQ Area.
Positives: Views - stunning. Location - quiet and only a 20min walk to town. Room - very spacious with an awesome balcony which we could fish off and very private - comfortable beds - great laundry - bathrooms were great - plenty of towels provided. Pool - lovely.
The positives did outweigh the negatives and we would stay again & recommend to friends and colleagues. I would just suggest management try and make themselves more accessible and let people know on booking about the bond fee.

Hello Julie

Firstly thanks for taking the time to write your review and thanks for your kind words and concerns. I would like to address your concerns. I'm not sure why we were hard to contact as our after hours number is in all compendiums in all apartments, my mobile is located in two positions at reception along with the entry to Peninsula and Peninsula's main number is diverted to my mobile after hours.

Regarding the lounges, and the noise, they were sofa's which open and close and did make a clicky noise when used, new lounges were on order and unfortunatly were delivered just after your stay.

Your comment about the dishes /cultery, the water marks are due to high calcium levels in our water leaving what sometimes appears to look like they are not cleaned properly. This has been addressed with our cleaning staff.

Because we ajoin Shingley Beach Park (a 20 mtr walk from our gate to the first BBQ site) which is beautifully kept by our local council and has three BBQ covered sites we decided not to have a BBQ on site.

Regarding our policy to do a Pre-auth of $500.00 which only puts a hold on this amount, it's not actually paid or taken off your card unless required, a Pre-auth is a Peninsula standard procedue, this is stated in your booking confirmation.

So Julie again thanks for your review and we do look forward to your return to Peninsula and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.
