“Great location, simple room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2007

We found the 1BR Poolside Apartment great value for money. The facilities are older style, but the place was clean and you can't beat walking into the centre of Airlie Beach in 5-10 minutes!!!

Airlie apartments are really misleading on their website in describing heir deluxe apartments - ours overlooked the bins, although we didn't use the balcony as it was filthy - the cigarette bin hadn't even been emptied although we discovered from friends who had poolside apartments that neither had theirs. The sofa had no support when you sat on it and you sank almost to the floor - the rest of the apartment was problem free if a little grubby. Our friends in the poolside apartments also experienced the dirtiness, their shower was blocked and so flooded the abthroom when used, the kettle was rusty and none of us used the pool as it was full of debris, which the management denied.
This accommodation is shabby, and worse wasn't cleaned properly and had old rusty appliances which could easily have been replaced. They should also mention the very steep hill in their website as we had a 75 yr old and a baby in our group so it wasn't ideal.

  • Liked — It was very close to the lagoon and all the bars restaurants and shops but wasn't noisy at nights
  • Disliked — shabbiness, dirtiness, debris in pool

We wanted clean, tidy, safe, quiet, 2 separate bedrooms, full kitchen, close to the main street of town, cheap side of affordable - and we got it. My friend and I stayed here at Airlie Apartments for 4 nights in May 2007 in Apt#2 by the pool (rated 3 star). Our poolside apartment was definitely not a luxurious 5 star, but was perfect and absolutely nothing wrong with it. Granted there is a very steep hill from either street direction to walk up and down upon leaving/entering the complex - I didn't mind this at all (my butt looks great!) it's a bit of exercise and something different to where I currently live (I use to live in Airlie so was prepared for the walking and the hills). Just as an example - it took me 6 minutes to walk from the middle of the lagoon to the lounge room of the apartment. The complex is at the beginning end of town. We used the pool daily, went out on a boat day trip (Whitehaven Express), cooked breakfast, lunch & dinner in the unit to save some money and spent the rest of our time walking around Airlie & Cannonvale. (Went out for dinner once to the busy Mexican restaurant of the far end of the beach front and lunch once at Waters Edge in Golden Orchid Ave). We didn't have a need to use the laundry facility so I can't comment on this. There is undercover car parking available if you have a car. The only negative thing I can think of is that the cutting knife in the kitchen wasn't sharp - other than that it was all good! I will definitely be staying here again. Linda on reception is lovely, she has all the local brochures and knowledge to help you out, and will book you onto any of the tours you wish to go on. Oh and the view over Abel Point marina & Pidgeon Island . . . . aaaahhhh priceless!

  • Liked — Comfortable, clean, tidy, safe, quiet, price, value for money, location, 2 separate bedrooms, hotplates, normal sized fridge
  • Disliked — The one blunt knife in the kitchen I kept trying to use to prepare my food with! (They also had a sharp skillet knife which I ended up using instead)

I stayed at Airlie Apartments for 5 nights including over New Years Eve. The Apartment was very clean with modern facilities and Airconditioning in both rooms plus the loungeroom. Management were very nice and helpful. The only downside is the fact that it is perched on top of a nasty hill that you have to walk back up each time you go down into town, however the views from the pool area are stunning. Most tours you book actually pick you up from your apartment so there is no worry with the hill there, or taxi drivers will happily drive you up the hill. All in all a wonderful holiday and I would definitely return to Airlie Apartments!

  • Liked — Views, modern facilities
  • Disliked — The hill you have to walk up!
