“A relaxing paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2007

I stayed at the Whitsunday Organic B&B for only two nights but was made to feel as welcome as a long term guest. The B&B is close to the main town strip without being so close that you can't escape if you want to. John was very welcoming and friendly, and helpful on booking local activities. The breakfast was fantastic, and the bottle of wine with the room was great too. The setting was gorgeous, and a rainbow lorikeet even came up to taste my coffee! I wish I could have stayed longer, especially as I got rudely interrupted on my last day by my taxi coming earlier than expected. A definite recommendation for anyone staying in Airlie.

I can thoroughly recommend the Whitsunday Organic B & B as a relaxing place to get away for a mini break or longer stay. John is the perfect host and helpful with any enquiries. The B & B is eco friendly and fully organic, and is a quiet oasis in the middle of Airlie Beach. There are a range of rooms to choose from, and we stayed in a garden room with it's own ensuite. It is so quiet even though it is situated only 2 streets from the main street, with lush organic gardens which visitors are welcome to wander through. There are organic teas and coffees available for guests to help themselves to all day, as well as plenty of fresh fruits from their garden. The organic breakfasts are lovely and we were waited on hand and foot. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms nicely set out. John was very helpful in recommending a restaurant for dinner in Airlie Beach, and the recommendation was well worh it. The B & B is suitable for singles, couples and families.

What delightful and helpful hosts! Our family of four enjoyed organic, sumptuous breakfasts and a large, family bedroom. It's an easy walk to town, but a tasteful distance from the party strip. It's easy to lose track of time on the balcony watching cockatoos and relishing the view.

  • Liked — the hosts and the breakfasts
  • Disliked — the neat, tidy, lovely, but alas down-the-hall bathroom and shower

We were sailing in the Whitsundays from Airlie Beach, and needed a B&B to stop in either side of our voyage. We chose Whitsunday Organic B&B because it was away from the noise and bustle of Airlie Beach's high street, and afforded quiet views over the bay.

The room was comfortable and newly refurbished. Breakfast was very good - purely organic, and served on the balcony. Wonderful!

There were a few things that we didn't like. The rooms were not serviced unless you specifically asked for it, so beds were not made and the bathroom was not cleaned. At this price we would have expected this. It was also quite a walk up the hill, especially with luggage.

I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday with a week at the Organic B&B in Airlie. After all, who could resist the photos on their website of the luscious vegetarian food, and that "pick all you can eat" organic garden.
We arrived and were shown to our clean, well furnished, although smaller than expected room. The bathroom, although shared, was cleaned several times throughout the day and given we were only sharing with one other room, we rarely had a problem accessing it when we needed.
The breakfasts were lovely, if a little repetitious, with fruit, muesli and a changing hot dish or main dish each day. The banana muffins are great, if you're offered them, take them!
While there was a fruit bowl available for guests to take from, the garden which looked so bountiful on the website was sad and bare, with hardly any fruit at all. Considering this was one of the main things that sold me on the place, I was very disappointed.
It turned out that not only were the owners taking a back seat since the birth of their child, which meant the breakfasts, which used to be cooked by the Sri Lankan-born wife half of the owners, had gone more basic (read: boring). And the owner John, who is tending the garden in the lovely shots on the website, was hardly around, and definitely not in the garden.
At the time we visited, the property also had a large "for sale" sign out the front, which may go towards explaining the things that were lacking.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay, appreciated the intimate atmosphere and helpful tips from the site manager, Jules.
One word of warning, though. if you like to sleep in, this is not the place for you. Breakfast is only served until 9.30am and at around 8am, the ladies start cleaning the bathroom and surrounding rooms - you will be woken up.

We stayed for four nights at the Whitsunday Organic B&B in December 06, having discovered it on the Internet. We decided against resort-style accomodation, partly because we are vegetarian (one of us is vegan) and the B&B offered breakfasts for a range of dietary preferences. It also seemed more friendly and personal.

We also booked a boat trip through the B&B on Wings, which turned out to be fantastic.

The ambience is very pleasant - the B&B is on a hill (a short but exerting five-minute walk from the main shopping strip) with views over the harbour and tropical gardens. It had a very beachy interior, with lots of timber and artworks.

Rooms (we booked an ensuite room, and actually experienced two rooms - one before the boat trip, and one after) were large, clean and very pleasant, with nice bathroom.

We particularly liked the fruit bowl, which we were welcome to help ourselves to - lots of yummy organic tropical fruit, much of it grown on the property.

The breakfasts were the highlight - truly spectacular, very nicely presented and different every day. In fine weather, it is served on the balcony.

We were free to wander in and out as we pleased, and make use of the B&B's living spaces.

Highly recommended

We stayed for three nights at this bed and breakfast. We were originally attracted by the review in the Lonely Planets Guide and by a very slick website. After driving all day from Cairns to get there we were disappointed to be given a room that was not ensuite- the bathroom was only partly completed. We were then advised that there was renovation work going on in the building and did we mind if the workmen had access to our room during the day to carry out the remaining work to the new bathroom!! After complaining we were given another room that was ensuite, which was comfortable but had no view other than a fence.

The breakfasts were good with nice fresh fruit. However, the biggest disappointment was the attitude of the owner who seemed more interested in getting your money than providing good customer care. The property was for sale at the time we were there.
