“Great location and apartment. Wish we could stay longer.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We only had 2 nights here but really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was excellent, well maintained and spotlessly clean. There was plenty of room to spread out and the pool area was lovely. Would definitely return on our next visit. Only downside was the walk up the hill but fixed by getting a taxi. The views were stunning.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We stayed a couple of nights here in July. When we arrived for check in - about 2:30 ( prime check in time) the office door was locked and we had to buzz to get someone to check us in. Once we got to the room we were blown away by the view - stunning, stunning, stunning.

The unit itself was nice and clean although there was a long drip of fat falling from the rangehood which was pretty yuck but we didn't cook so it didn't bother us too much. The bed and pillows were awesome and we had a couple of very good nights sleep.

The pool was lovely - really nice floating around watching the beach below. We didn't think the walk up the hill was as bad as all the reviews make it out to be. We are not super fit and there is a bit of calf burn but it only takes 5 mins to get up the road.

However..............

When we checked out at 10am on our last day we were again greeted with a locked door with the same sign. I admit I only read the first couple of lines about buzzing for someone to come and help and not the final bit about the key safe deposit box. When I buzzed I was greeted by a male voice who told me quite rudely that to check out I just needed to leave the key - in his words "as the sign said". No "how was your stay?" " thanks for staying with us" or anything. RUDE! What if we had questions or feedback? It's not like we were checking out at an awkward time. This tainted our whole impression of the hotel esp. since we received great service everywhere else on our holiday.

Thank you for your review of your stay with us at Mediterranean resorts.
We apologise if there has been a misunderstanding during your departure. Our small management team live on site and we make ourselves available for most of the hours in the day.
Even though our office hours state 8.30am to 6pm we are available most hours of the day and night via our intercome located right next to the office door.
We also have a very clear and ledgible sign on the office door for early or late departures indicating the use of the "after hours key return box" should the office be temporarily unattended.
As we are a very small management team and we can be away in the resort during office hours at times we find the intercom system is very effective. The intercom is always attended and my mobile phone number is also very clearly visible as we do look forward to getting feedback from our guests.
A great many guests avail themselves of this service and once again I apologise if the communication you received was not to your satisfaction or offended you.
KInd regards,
Robert Boers

This place was in an excellent location, close to town and eating places. The walk up the road to the complex is pretty damn tiring and certainly gets the heart pumping. If you walk the left hand side of the road and use the steps to cross over at the Mediterranean it makes it a bit easier or alternatively pay $5 and get a taxi from town. The room needed a wee bit of cleaning on arrival but otherwise ok. The drier in the garage was hopeless as we had wet days 3 out of 5 and couldn't get stuff dry as it kept cutting out. I mentioned to staff but it wasn't fixed and I had to share our friends drier but same thing happened to them. The main pool and spa were unfortunately cold and with so many wet, windy, cold days we could have done with a hot soak as we didn't have a bath either like our friends apartment. Thought the spa at least could have been heated. The view from our apartment was wonderful but better upstairs from our friends as theirs was unobstructed by the apartment across from us.The staff were very quick to rectify any other issues that they were made aware of.

Room Tip: The higher your apartment the better the view.

We have visited this resort once before and it was quite pleasant. Well we certainly didn't have any issues with playing music inside our room... The second time we went we were once and once only warned for playing their "sony surround sound theatre system" too loudly from inside the living room before being evicted onto orchid drive in the middle of the night.

A security guard gave us an inital warning and instructions to turn the theatre system down, which we did, only to be followed by another visit 10 minutes later by 2 security guards ordering us to leave the premise immediately. Two police men shortly followed and before we knew it we there was a small army outside our door for apparently playing the theatre system too loudly on "one" occasion.

We were instructed to come back in 6 hours time (8:30am) when we could retrieve our car and items and go home. This occurred on the first night we were there so we didnt even get to sleep in our beds whilst paying the resort $650. The initial complainers of the noise were of strong asain decent as were the male caretaker at the time. Whether these similarites had any affect on his decision is obviously 'unkown'. Sadly enough it was my partners birthday at the time as well.

Me and my partner initially thought this cruel order was a joke yet we were soon to be sludging ourselves on the dirty warm gutters of the nearby street for 6 hours. The caretakers (a middle aged blonde woman and a half asian male) were so infused with our apparent disrespect and abuse (musical abuse) that they were wandering the nearby parking lots and resorts with torches demanding we stay 50 metres from their resort and even off the property of a resort which wasn't even under their ownership.

Our presence on their nearby street must of only infuriated them even more becasue they continued to ring the police, god knows why, implying that we we're tresspassing on their beloved resort, when we were actually sitting outside the toscana resort next door... Both me and my partner were mortified of how uncaring, unpassionate and unreasonable there caretakers were. Perhaps they had just had a bad day, who knows. Either way they sure did spoil our holiday... One other downside of the mediterranean resort is the long horribly steep driveway and car ports. Getting a manual car into the drive way almost meant burning out the clutch and the thought of getting a 4wd in there would be anything other than possible....

Thank you to all the previous guests who have visited our Mediterranean Resorts and taken the time to genuinely comment on the effort our team puts into insuring families, guests and friends have a peaceful and enjoyable stay with us.We pride ourselves here at the resort for having the utmost respect for our guest's privacy and wellbeing and to be honest, zero tolerance for any unruly behaviour that may impact on the pleasant family environment our guests have come to expect.
We have extremely professional security personnel who do a fantastic job to ensure our guest's safety and peace of mind.
Even with all the checks and balances our management team has put into place, very occasionaly we encounter an element staying within our resort that chooses to continue to behave in a way that creates major problems for the other guests.
When and if this unfortunately occurs, I would like to assure all our past, present and future guests that we will take very decisive action to remove the problem.
We at Mediterranean believe this would be the normal expectation of all who look forward to a peaceful and memorable holiday at our Resort.

I read the review by MrsTT82 and wonder if she must have stayed at a different resort to us!
We booked a 1 bedroom apartment (& were upgraded to a 2 bedroom) for 7 nights, leaving on Good Friday. The apartment was on the first floor &, like all apartments in the complex, had magnificent views of the Whitsundays from the balcony, lounge & dining areas. Even P&O parked there cruise ship in front of Airlie to add to the view.
The apartment was very spacious, clean and clearly meets the 4 star rating for the resort. We have stayed in 4 & 5 star self catered accommodation all over Australia and expect that the necessities to get you started are in place, & this was the case here.
Had a swim in the pools on a couple of days, beautiful!
We were a little concerned about the "hill climb" from Airlie township to the resort &, while it does make you breathe a bit heavier, it is quite manageable. (TIP- walk up the lower side and take the stairs up to the high side right outside Med Resort, it is not as steep on the lower side).
Staff were friendly & helpful, booking our trip to Whitehaven beach without any problems.

We would definately return to this resort.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views.

The good- Views are unreal. The kitchen is well equipped enough. The location is very close to main st in airlie which is why I chose this resort. The hill is challenging to walk up and very funny after a few drinks. The pools are nice.
The bad- We found the apartment to be nothing like the pics on the website so we felt misled a little. I had even enquired via email before our stay to find out what picture on the site our room was like and was given a vague answer. Now I see why. The apartment was tiny. Couches tiny. Not one photo on site was of this apartment. Our rooftop spa was old and not like the one pictured. The pools were right next to each other and very small, only a few lounges and the ones in the sun were always taken when we went there. I had to ask for more loo paper as not enough for a 7 day stay was given. Our room was meant to be serviced on the 4th day but maid never showed. Still no show on 6th day until 5pm and we checked out the next day so totally pointless. I didn't find the owners to be especially friendly which is disappointing as the other reviews said nice things of their attitude. Fair enough we may have inconvenienced them as my husband got locked out of our room at 11.30pm (after being in the spa) because I fell asleep and didn't wake up to let him in but this was at the end of our stay and from the second we checked in we weren't made to feel welcome. The aircon dripped water on the floor and the shower tap fell off and could have broken my foot. the website invites you to ask at reception for jogging routes which we did only to get an uninformed response and umms and aaahs.
Maybe we are a little spoiled and expect too much after staying in five star resorts in Thailand but I recently stayed in apartments of the same style in Yamba and they were better and cheaper! We are glad we arranged so many tours and had a great time doing those in airlie beach as the resort wasn't much to be happy about.

Thank you so much for your constructive feedback. In response to your review there are a few things which are disappointing and a little confusing to hear and need clarification so that our team at Mediterranean Resorts can continue to deliver the standard that is expected by our guests. We have 2 pools, one 90,000 litre lap pool which appears to be large enough for several of our permanent guests to use when training for competetive swimming events. The second pool is 50,000 litres and has a large spa at the end which comfortably accommodates at least 4 persons. The pools are very nice and spacious and seem more than adequate for most guests. The sun lounges (seven in all) can be positioned anywhere around both pools and as there are no obstacles around both pools to obstruct our lovely sunlight, all guests generally have no problems finding a private sunny spot in which to lay.
To ensure adequate security and no noise invasion for guests late at night we have a strict cut off time for pool and spa use at 10pm which guests agree to abide by when they check in and really appreciate. We do from time to time unfortunately have guests who for some reason don't abide by these very simple considerations and find themselves needing to get back into their locked room well after pool closing times.
We do pride ourselves on giving potential guests a genuine and honest spread of photos on our website however with so many different style and size rooms in our Letting Pool it is very difficult to have photos of every room available. I think most travellers would appreciate this point especially when guests generally get the benefit of much larger living areas than they have booked. This is especially the case when 2 people book one of our Apartments.
All the apartments are fully self-contained ( self-catering) and are equiped with all the consumables ie.tea, coffee, toilet paper etc to get guests through the initial first day and night. If guests stay for a longer period it's generally understood that a self - catering apartment requires guests to do some shopping to cater for their ongoing needs.
Like most good and efficient operators we have a system in place where guests can write down any small maintenance problems that may eventuate during their stay and bring it to the attention of management so we can react quickly to remedy the situation. We've found this to be a very fair method giving management an opportunity to satisfy guests that may have some concerns.
A small number of guests find using this 'best practice' procedure difficult.
What a great place is Airlie Beach to stay fit. The hills which give us unique and extraordinary views of the Coral Sea and Whitsundays and a township that is small and intimate enough to adequately see on foot or by vehicle. For those who prefer exercising or jogging you can do a complete circular run which we have pleasure in outlining to guests who don't want to come back the same way as they went out.
Lastly we are very proud of our 4 Star AAA status and understand the difference in both cost and accommodation standards when people chose to stay in a 5 Star Resort.
Thank you once again Mrs TT82 for your review and we are truly sorry we haven't lived up to your expectations.
