“Solway Lass 3-day/night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

I just returned from a 3-day/night sailing trip on the Solway Lass. The crew is great! The vessel very special and spacious during the rain squalls that appeared sporadically. They made my birthday a wonderful an memorable event. Highly recommend.

“Images that will stay with you forever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Solway Lass is a beautiful boat with a wonderfully friendly and helpful crew. When the weather is kind the scenes that you witness become the backdrop to your dreams. Sky of the prettiest blue making the water on Whitehaven beach several shades of turquoise against the pure whiteness of the sand.We were lucky enough to see a gorgeous sunset too.Wildlife witnessed was dolphins, turtles, huge lizards and assorted beautiful fish including Elvis and Priscilla!
Unfortunatley the booking in procedure started the trip in a bad way. We arrived late due to the late arrival of our flight. The staff in the office were curt to the point of rudeness which was not helped by the fact that we had not been told of the luggage restrictions for the cruise (cabins are small). We ended up having to decant items wanted for the trip from our suitcases into smaller carriers and being told to get them all to the Tourist Information Office pdq as it would be closing in 15 minutes. Somewhat stressed (and inevitably leaving some essentials in wrong baggage) we then had to go and find somehwere to eat and return at the alloted time to get collected to meet the boat.
This trip is a real adventure and worth the hassle of the haphazard check-in. The rewards are the sights that you see in travel brochures and stories to tell to friends and family on your return home.

“3d/3n Solway Lass”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We went on a sailing trip with Solway Lass for 3 days and 3 nights.
We got a special offer with a very nice discount because we booked at the same day that the trip started.
The boat is very nice and the food is great. The crew is very friendly and helpfull. The rooms have aircon and everything is very clean. We have only been snorkelling twice, and the snorkellingspots were not good at all: the visibility was very bad, which was caused by the high tides, not that much fish and little coral. There was one free dive included in our trip with tornado dive. This was the worst dive experience ever. Our dive instructor was uninterested and unpolite. You should check your material as much as you can,for example,my boyfriend started with 190 bar and after 40min he still had same amount of air in his bottle. Yeah right?! The visibility was o,5m so that we had to stay as close as possible with the instructor. There was hardly anything to see...once we got back on the boat we got one minute to leave: no briefing,no debriefing, nothing... This dive was free for us buth other people had to pay up to 70dollars for it, which was a shame..!

“Great boat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

We had booked a 3 day sail on the Solway Lass through Explore Whitsundays but unfortunately Cyclone Oswald intervened. We left Airlie Beach on a Tuesday in threatening weather, managed to get to Whitehaven Beach by Wednesday morning but had to return to port that afternoon due to predictions threatening gale force winds. The captain and crew did a superb job keeping us informed as to what was going on and, when on Thursday morning, the trip was cancelled, Explore Whitsundays generously refunded 75% of our fare. I was very impressed with how well they handled everything and feel they were more than generous in their refund policy. The boat was fun for the few hours we spent on it and we may plan to try it again sometime.

“A Christmas to Remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

When we had to miss our January 2011 Solway Lass trip due to the Queensland flooding Explore Whitsundays was kind enough to give us a two year extension on our trip. We booked the Christmas Eve 2012 departure for a three night cruise of the Whitsundays on the Solway Lass. A combination of a good group of fellow passengers, great weather, a fabulous crew consisting of Captain Reg, Bosun Tommy, Lozza, Braydon and Chef Dave (unbelievable what he produced in that small galley) and the Solway Lass herself made for the most spectacular and memorable Christmas vacation that our family has ever experienced. Whitehaven Beach on Christmas morning and the ship under sail Christmas Day leading to a spectacular sunset before settling for the night - unreal. Can't say enough about the quality of this entire 3 night - 3 day trip and have to say that it was the highlight of a wonderful month long visit to Australia. Well Done!
