Life guard on site. Safe protected area with different water depths. Plenty of shade. Good facilities for showers toilets and change rooms. Shops right near. Families could spend all day here.

“unexpected...yet unforgettable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

The Lagoon at Airlie Beach took us cpletely by surprise, just a few steps from our B and B. The community leaders, along with service groups such as local Rotary Clubs, constructed the saltwater Lagoon as a year round alternative to swimming in the harbor, which has a jellyfish issue like most of the Queensland waters during the months of October - May.

With playgrounds, wading pools, sandy beaches and grassy berms, full bathroom and shower facilities, picnic tables, and complimentary gas grills to use, the Lagoon is a perfect location to enjoy the beach lifestyle...just steps from town.

“For those who thought they weren't fit enough for an exciting adventure....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

In May 2014 my 60y/o mum and myself (fairly cuddly in size) went on the morning segway tour with Fun Rentals. There were only four participants in total with one tour guide.

Hopping on the segway was daunting and it seems to defy all balance/gravity ideas you have. It takes a good 15 minutes to get the hang of using the segways but that's exactly how long they patiently take showing you the tricks and let you practice first.

Once you have your skills obtained it's off on the streets. Everyone in the street watches as you glide by. We zipped from Airlie Beach Main Street down to the waterfront, along the boardwalk, through the lovely Botanical Gardens to Cannonvale Beach and the Fat Frog Cafe, a vintage inspired stop where coffee and cake is included (I managed to get an iced coffee and a big slice of cheesecake). It's a good place to rest the foot muscles for a bit before it's back on the Segway for a bit of a faster trip back (the same way we came) once everyone gets better at manoeuvring.

Back at the Fun Rentals office everyone leaves with a big smile. The tour guide offered to carry my camera during the trip and take pictures of us in action which was really nice. The tour guide was great, patient and informative and perfect for the job.

For something that wasn't high on our Airlie Beach "To Do" list on our arrival in town, we absolutely loved it. Great for those 12y/o to those young at heart.

“A nice artificial beach area, perfect for a hot day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

Nice area to relax and have a swim when the sun is out. However also boathaven beach seems to be a little known beach round the corner which was also great.
