“One of the better places in Airlie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2011

The dorms here are quite good and have recently been renovated, that's only if you stay in one of the 8 bed cabins/villas that surround the pool. I was in one of the renovated dorms (Number 6) and couldn't complain, it was new, comfortable bunks, good aircon, clean showers etc. The cleaners don't do a great job, like some days they didn't empty the tiny bin in our room or sweep/mop the floors but they seemed to clean the showers as they were always spotless.
The kitchen has heaps of crockery, utensils, massive fridge etc. by the end of the day it's messy (what backpackers kitchen isn't?) but the cleaners clean it every morning.
The rooms are set back a bit off the street so it's a bit quieter. I met quite a few people who had moved to Nomad's after staying in other Airlie backpackers who had quite a few horror stories (noise, filfthy rooms, bed bugs) and they said Nomad's was the best in Airlie. I'd stay there again if ever in Airlie, as it seems to be the place to stay.
P.S. Only negative, internet is expensive, $1 per 15mins, minimum $5 purchase. Just head up 2 doors up the street to Travel Bugs where the internet is 1st 30mins free then $2p/hr after.

We were recommended to stay at Nomads through a travel rep as we were advised that the accomodation had recently been refurbished........This in fact is NOT true!

Upon arrival the Reception is impressive, within a great location. The Lagoon is directly across the road. The rooms are set within a tranquil setting with palm trees. This is also very ideal for campers. However, we stayed for 2 nights at Nomads, with a few days away inbetween. The Reception staff appear to have no concept of time, or common sense. We were informed that we could check in at 2pm, however at 2.30pm we were still standing in a long queue waiting to be served. There were 2 members of staff at this point however one of the ladies went into the back office, leaving just one person to deal with extremely hot and agitated guests.
We eventually were given the keys to our room at approximately 3pm and found that our room had not been cleaned form the previous occupants!! Dirty towels and linen were scattered on the floor. We informed Reception on our way out, but again had to wait in a long queue (with just one member of staff working).
Staff appear to have a bit of an attitude, and were not apologetic for the delay.
When the room had been 'cleaned', we were given stained towels and the cutlery and utensils used by the previous occupants were just left!

When staff do clean your room, they tend to leave the dirty linen etc outside the front doors of your room or on the picnic tables!! Understandably alot of staff tend to work there for free accomodation.

Honestly.....if I was to go back to Airlie Beach (which I intend to do), I shall be reserving a room at The Waters Edge or Beaches.......Both are extremely reasonably priced.
