“Nice rooms, shame its a Nomads.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Adter travelling Australia I have a personal hate now for Nomads hostels but this was one of the better ones. The rooms were nice and clean and had there own toilet and shower room was was fab. Kitchen ok, pool was a little dirty. Close to the beach and bars.

I stayed in a 6 bed ensuite mixed dorm for 3 nights. The room and the bathroom are big, comfortable and clean. Only last night there was a terrible smell in the room, don't know why, and I found a cockroach in the bathroom.
Security is the main problem for this hostel. There are no lockers in the room. There are lockers at the reception but you have to pay to use them. Otherwise you can leave your staff in a luggage deposit that they open every 30 minutes, but I often found it open without anyone caring about it (so I could easly grab any luggage). Also, since it is a party hostel, it never closes and anyone can come in (reception cleses at 9pm, but a secondary entrance is always open).
It's cool that there are a lot of activities (like free BBQ).
If you want to go bed early it's not the right place for you, as there is music and noisy people till late.
The location is very good, right in the main street (anyway, the city is really small).

Good stay at Nomads and fantastic location for Airlie Beach. We only stayed for 2 nights but could have done more. Really chilled out hostel with a good vibe. Everyone is really friendly and there's lots to do on your doorstep. Definitely worth staying here if you are backpacking your way along the east coast. Also recommend the Atlantic Clipper if you are looking for a Whitsunday trip - we had an awesome time and the crew are great.

Our first impressions of the hostel weren’t great as we turned up at 9.30pm, rang the afterhours security number and weren’t met by anyone until 10.15pm so had to stand out on the street. Aside from that we had a fantastic stay. The rooms were large with lots of plug sockets and one toilet and two showers in the ensuites. The staff were helpful and friendly. Whilst there weren’t lockers in the rooms, there were electronic lockers in Reception which cost $6 for 24 hours. A fantastic hostel in a great location, where we would definitely stay again.

We camped here for 2 nights, and the campsite is a little rough, but totally adequate. The bathroom block could do with updating, but there are no real complaints. Location is fab; people who are complaining about the noise levels - why choose to stay next to bars / clubs etc? There are other places to go if you want a bit of peace!
The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to help with anything we asked of them. None more so, though, than Sarah, the girl on the MAD travel desk. We asked a million questions, and she answered every one! It was good to have someone who actually knew about the tours we wanted to go on, and not just pushing the expensive ones. Amazing service Nomads, we will definitely be staying and booking excursions through you again. I had previously been a fan of another large hostel chain (no names mentioned.. X), but I have seen the light, and it is Nomads!!

Noisy, dirty, uncomfortable, unfriendly staff and grossly overpriced. More prison cell than hostel. Very glad we had to only stay 1 night here. Rubbish strewn over pathways. Pay $20/night more for an ocean view apartment up the road. Travel agent totally useless

Stayed here in my campervan for a few nights whilst visiting Airlie Beach as it has a great central location and is fairly cheap (I think it was about $20). The campsite is essentially a glorified carpark, with the spaces dotted around the existing rooms. The facilities were fairly basic and the bathrooms were horrific to say the least. Most of the shower room doors did not lock, were fairly dirty and the toilets were at times distgusting. As others have said, this is a party hostel so it was quite loud at times but did have a good atmosphere. If you can put up with the minor niggles mentioned above its a great location for Airlie.
