“Great place”

My extended family and I recently stayed at Blue Horizon and we all had a great time. The view from our apartment (penthouse) was great, although there is some developing going on just infront. The only thing that I could fault was the fact we only got fresh towels on day 5 or 6 of our 7 night stay. We had a washing machine and dryer so I wasn't sure if we got new towels daily or not so we just laundered our own. Also the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel ran out on our 2nd night and were not replaced. But over all a masive apartment in a great location. I'm sure if we come back to Airlie Beach we'll stay here again. Thanks

I phoned weeks prior to our visit date and offered to pay extra if need be to ensure we would have the "stunning sea views" as advertised on the webpage and was guaranteed that we would have them. I was also told on the booking day it was non-refundable, which I happily accepted.
Yes, when we arrived the power was out but that was no biggy, and so we were pointed in the right direction and took our groceries up to the room.
The view from the room was far from stunning and further from the ocean.
A swimming pool and mosque type building with a partial view of a bay under construction do not make seaviews. See photos on earlier post by Bill C.
My husband went down stairs to enquire about a room change and was advised when the other receptionist returned from lunch in an hour they would call us on the room phone.
We waited for 2 hours and then having not heard from anyone, left to find better accommodation. As we approached the Reception desk we were ignored by both receptionists and so didn't bother trying again for an upgrade. (We did not approach the desk, however you would think a friendly hello shouldn't be too much to ask?)
We came back after finding a suitable place to stay, again walking past the two receptionists without a word from either, gathered our groceries and left, still no word from either receptionists .AT NO STAGE WAS AN UPGRADE EVER MENTIONED.
There was one missed call on my phone when we arrived at Pinnacles Resort and Spa (I had been using it to enquire about rooms at other places) but no voicemail was left and we have not heard a word from this Company since. I did not phone them back as we had acquired a Penthouse suite with 180 degree seaviews so there was nothing else to discuss.
When my husband returned the keys, the Manager was there and the only question asked was my husbands surname. No question on how he was today, if the room was ok or if he enjoyed his stay, nothing.
I am the Practice Manager of a busy Medical Centre so I understand customer service, sadly yours falls short.
There was no issue with the location, cleanliness,or maintenance, just the lack of communication and customer service. Oh and of course the missing seaview.

Hi folks, we booked an apartment here on the back of one of their internet ads that stated "Stunning sea views" upon arrival we soon discovered we had NO sea views and asked if we could pay extra money for an apartment with the views. I was told they were booked out, I had my daughter ring them from Mackay and found they were not booked out. Moral of the story....They are liars !!!! We sat in our room for 2 hrs waiting for someone to contact us as they said they would, then we left and went to "The Pinnacles" which I highly recommend.
Stay away from "Blue Horizon" Terrible experience.

Room Tip: Don't go there,they will not look after you.

At Blue Horizon Resort we always welcome reviews and customer feedback; even though we accept that it might not always be good! We have guest comment questionnaires in all our rooms as well as a visitor’s comment book at reception. We receive a large amount of positive comments via these sources and very little of the other kind. We, like most people in the accommodation industry accept that Trip Advisor is a platform for people to share their views on the standard of accommodation and their experiences when they travel. It would be great if all these reviews were accurate, constructive etc, but it’s a free country you can say whatever you want.
Unfortunately this review has very little accurate comments in it.
The Facts:
Guest was allocated a nice room on the 1st level, one level above the pool area. While it does not have unobstructed ocean views, it certainly enjoys ocean views over Boathaven Bay towards Flametree and Mandalay point. To say that the apartment has NO ocean views is I am afraid not true!
This guest was offered an upgrade to a two bedroom apartment and indicated they would be happy to do this. We did however also offer to see if we were able to move some arrivals around to get them into a one bedroom apartment on a higher floor which would mean they would not incur any additional cost. The guest neglects to mention here that the power was out in our area due to a storm and our Receptionist took their mobile phone number and said she would see what she could do as soon as the computers were up again.
We were able to move the guest to another apartment and rang the mobile number to advise of this. The mobile was not answered and a detailed message was left advising the guest of the options we were able to offer. The guests did not reply to the call nor come to reception to discuss these options. They were observed to go out by reception staff, but we were not made aware at any stage that they were in fact going to another property? One of the guests came to reception the day they were due to leave 3 days later, returned the keys and checked out as normal, no comment was made at all by the guest.
I find this fascinating, at this stage we thought they must have decided to stay in the room anyway, people sometimes do that!
I am pleased to be able to say that we are not liars!!!! Goodness me this comment is a bit harsh, a lot of people would take exception to it, but as I said it is a free country. The fact of the matter here is that on the 24th of January we were 100% booked out for one bedroom apartments, no question about this. If the guest’s daughter rang to check whether there was availability for a 3 night stay in a one bedroom apartment from the 24th of January she would have been advised of this, and offered an upgrade to a two bedroom apartment as it was the only availability we had. Possibly some confusion here on dates or interpretation of the actual situation, I really have no idea.
We try very hard here at Blue Horizon to give all guests the very best service we can, this situation highlights the fact that with just some simple communication with the reception staff, all would have been resolved satisfactorily. If for some reason these guests missed the message on their phone why walk past reception and not follow up the situation? They knew about the power being out and that it was very busy. No matter what, we would have done what was required to resolve this situation.
Given the above and the fact that these guests did not actually end up staying at Blue Horizon I feel that describing us as a “Terrible experience” is quite unfair, the same applies to their comment that we will not look after you, for whatever reason they did not allow us to look after them.

We had a wonderful stay here. Facilities are everything you need and the out-of-their way service by the general managers great.

Just came back from a week on Airlie Beach staying at Blue Horizon. Secured a deal through a voucher website, and had no problems securing a decent room in Block B, 2nd floor overlooking the pool and construction works. Yes, there are construction works going on over the road, but they won't detract from your stay.

Location - 2 minutes drive past the last roundabout in main street. It is not on the Esplanade but this, I feel, adds to it. Quiet in the evenings, a nice 10 minute stroll to the shops, lagoon and restaurant, and great views of water and bushland rather than streets, shops and drunk backpackers.

Room -
The room was a single bedroom, well furnished apartment with a lovely balcony area for breakfasts and evening brews. The decor in the room suited the occasion. The bed is firm but not concrete, the climate control is plentiful with both ceiling fans and air conditioning, however there's nothing like a morning or evening sea breeze coming through the balcony sliding doors to make you feel relaxed. There are both indoor and outdoor tables for you to enjoy meals, drinks and card games in the twilight if that's your thing. The room we had was perfect for couples, but too small if you have kids, and I'd recommend upgrading to a 2 bedder if that's your case.

Facilities -

The bathroom was practical and clean, with a big shower / spa tub. The television is perfect if you want to catch some news or an evening movie or sport, with a wide variety of channels (just takes you a while to get used to the dual remote system) and a complimentary DVD player.

The only two complaints (if you could call them that) are that the couches are as hard as rocks, though we remedied this with taking the base cushion off the one we weren't using and 'doubling up' on the one we were, which fixed this. Secondly, our balcony had a wooden sun lounge, but sadly the cushion was not there. I improvised with a sofa cushion, but I'm not sure where the original went.

The pool is a highlight, with a spa on a second level. Fairly spacious for a small pool, there are plenty of sun lounges, some in the shade, and there's nothing quite like a refreshing dip in the pool to keep you cool. There are some excellent complimentary BBQ facilities which are a great option to BYO meat and drinks and have a pool side BBQ - yum!

If you have a vehicle, there is car parking on three levels - Ground, Basement and outside on the drive, but during peak times I wouldn't call this ample. The spaces in the basement are small and if there is full occupancy good luck in getting the one with your room number on it. We opted to park in the outdoor bays in the neighboring apartment block even though they were meant to be used for their guests. It was easier than fighting for very tight space and with the threat of a dent on the rental, I'd rather risk a note on the windshield than an expensive dent or scratch on the car.

Staff -

What's a place if the staff don't make you feel welcome? This is where Blue Horizon shines. ALL of the staff are excellent, from the concierge to the owners to the cleaners. Never was something a problem, from cleanliness to check in/check out to booking tours. The staff are excellent and helpful at Blue Horizon which makes the stay that much better.

Overall - There are ample places to stay on Airlie Beach, but when we travel there again we will not bother to look beyond Blue Horizon. Two thumbs up, and recommended to couples and families.

Additional Notes: Some things we did and would recommend to all:

1 - Day Trip to Horseshoe Bay, Bowen. About an hour's drive north, but one which is rewarding. Bowen is a quaint seaside town, and Horsehoe Bay is a beautiful haven, safe for families with kids to have a swim. Get out there!

2 - Get out to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet. Done on the same tour, this was a magical experience. We booked with Whitehaven Xpress and would recommend them to everyone. Welcoming, larrikin characters who know their stuff. A great, full day out, a fantastic BBQ, snorkeling well looked after and only for $150-odd per person. Hill Inlet will give you the best viewing of the Whitsundays you could imagine, and Whitehaven beach is the type of place postcards are made of (powdery squeaky sand, crystal clear waters).

3 - Montes Reef Resort for the best sunset you will find on the mainland. About 45 mins drive toward Bowen, taking the Dingo Beach turn off, then again toward Hideaway Bay. They do some good seafood on the beach front, and the view as the sun touches the horizon is perfect. It will require an after-dark return trip if you stay for dinner, and it is roo territory so be careful, but it was worth it!

4 - For dining, my two favorites are Capers for any time of day, but their breakfast toast with honey mascopone, fresh fruit conserve and strawberries is delicious! Fish D'Vine gets my vote for tastiest seafood. Their $100 2-man platter is overflowing with goodness, and the fish from the soft shell crab, to fresh green prawns, to parmesan encrusted calamari was divine!

5 - If you are heading back to Proserpine airport and are well ahead of check in time, stop by the brilliant Grub Cafe on Main street, nestled in between the Commonwealth Bank and the Suzuki/Yamaha bike shop. From their delightful pot pie to their delicious lasagne and nice fresh coffee, it is the best place to get your hunger sorted before your flight.

Very comfortable, light and bright rooms and I thought the beds were super comfy. We had 3 in a 2 bedroom and 2 in the one bedroom next door. Balcony divider could be taken down which made for a great central area for all of us to socialise. Kitchenette was totally adequate for holiday quick meals. The only small suggestions I might make is a sharp knife and cutting board for the kitchenette and different toilet paper holders in the bathroom. Couches in living area a bit hard on the butt to sit for long but then we weren't there to watch TV! That's being picky! Can't really comment on the value as we got ripped off by BeachBreak Holidays/Ezyflights. In future we would book direct as then it would be excellent value for money. Everything clean as can be. What really made it for us was the attitude, helpfulness and warmth of the management and staff. Would definitely stay there again.
