My wife and I ate at Apres twice in the last week and found the food and service excellent. The location is outstanding.

“Don't Be Fooled”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2009

I think like many others we decided to try Apres after eating out at a number of the more expensive 'fancy' restaurants in Palm Cove, wanting a good old pub meal. Unfortunately we didn't get this here. To begin with the service was average and didn't improve when our mains were delivered before we'd even received the dip platter we'd ordered. Seems the waiter hadn't ordered it. They didn't seem at all concerned that they'd stuffed up and took off as soon as they'd put our plates on the table. My husband's fish and chips were seriously overcooked, the batter was rock hard. My oriental skewer was way too complicated (it was hanging suspended over the plate and was accompanied by two dishes of chopped peanuts and a sauce. Quite a process to eat). We didn't even bother with dessert and left as soon as possible. The only saving grace of the place was the guitarist entertaining patrons, he was quite good.

“This one will try your patience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2009

This restaurant/Bar looked like it would be good, comfortable and reasonable priced. It seemed popular with other tourists so we thought we'd give it a try. The Bar area was pretty empty when we arrived with the Restaurant part starting to reach capacity. Don't order drinks from your waiter - it's by far quicker to go to the Bar yourself and buy them. We only ordered a main course - simple fare - fish and chips, steak and some pasta for the kids. This took 50 minutes to arrive at our table. Other tables you could see getting restless having waited for some time for their meals whilst we had a waitress who spent 20 minutes talking to some UK tourists at the table next to ours. Guys this establishment is in a fantastic location and you could garner ALL the beach crowd AND the locals if only you improved your service and might I say lowered your prices to more competative levels. You are not a fine dining establishment so quit trying to be one.

“Tourist Trap ...Keep Walking By-Don't Stop”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2008

This is a complete tourist trap. Expensive and poor quality food
After a week of wonderful seafood and eating superb meals we agreed it was time for a low key Pub Meal. We noted the Apres Beach Bar earlier in the day and decided to wander down in the evening and were confident given it was busy
Seated on the verandah, menu in hand we were keen to try simple Squid Salad and Fish "n Chips in keeping with the pub theme. I noticed the expensive price $28 and $29 respectively, expecting something quite spectacular and tasty. I was mislead. Our plates arrived, limp lettuce doused with awful salad dressing and crwned with a couple of deep fried calamari rings ( I ordered Salt & Pepper Squid and would not have ordered had I known it was Deep Fried not pan fried) My partners fish was mass produced fillet possibly out of a freezer bag
What is my problem with this? I would have been happy to pay maybe $12 for this meal( which is what I did at PK Jungle bar in Cape Trib) and my expectations would have been met, but for $28 I expected fresh fish fillet as I had been served in all other restaurants on my trip to date for around the same price
For the same price, I later ate at other restaurants in Palm Cove, fresher food, nicer atmosphere, and my expectations had been met. Try NuNu just down the road

“Not really worth it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2008

The location is great and no complaints about the atmosphere, but I found this restaurant over-priced for the service and taste.

My wife and I spent about $120 on dinner (no alcohol) and without sounding rude, the fish and chips were no better than the take-out place down the road. None of the food was bad, but I'm struggling to remember what we ordered and it was only 2 nights ago!

All of the staff appeared to be European tourists, not very professional and our order was mixed up twice. That being said, they were pretty friendly.

There was a guy playing live music, piano and guitar, which was a nice touch and soft enough to carry on a normal conversation.

Go there for a drink to enjoy the view and music, but go elsewhere for a meal.
