“Perfect hideaway in Cairns northern beaches”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

There were several choices along Palm Cove's beach front but we were lucky to have chosen Mantra Amphora. Great value for the service they provide. A bit outdated with proliferation of more modern apartments in the area but Mantra is well-maintained, spacious rooms with your own bath spa! Only downside was there were no lifts so if you are lugging heavy baggages, request for ground floor rooms. View from the 3rd floor rooms are quite good though.
Best were the staff who were very friendly, accommodating and helpful at all times.
I would suggest perhaps for the resort to provide housekeeping and at least a microwave for those staying at the hotel rooms (without kitchen).

Room Tip: top floor has great views but no lift so request for ground floor rooms if you don't like the ex...

While called a hotel, our impression is that the property is not that at all, but rather a collection of units that are rented out by their owners- it gave us a timeshare impression. There are no lifts (elevators) so be prepared to hike up to the upper levels; there is no daily service to the unit,so if you wish to have fresh towels, you'll need to bring them to reception for exchange. There is a safe in the room, but there is an extra daily charge for rental :-( and you'll need to get the key from Reception. Fortunately, the location of the property in Palm Cove is very convenient to restaurants, grocery stores (mini type) as there is no eating facility on the property. The staff is very friendly and helpful given the limited services provided. Be advised that if you intend on taking tours of attractions to the North (Reef visit, etc.), it's a 30-50 min ride to Port Douglas, depending on other pick-ups. If we were to return to the area, we would probably opt to stay in Port Douglas where there are more hotel properties, restaurants, and shops.

Room Tip: Inspect your room to determine location, cleanliness, etc. BEFORE accepting the assigned room from...

My husband and I booked and paid for a hotel room prior to our arrival at the Mantra Amphora. We checked in and were given our keys - no assistance taking our bags up 3 flights of stairs to our room. The room was very out dated and old - just depressing really. Only bonus was that it had a view of the pool (although that didn't look that nice either). We stayed here the first night and decided we didn't want to stay here for the remainder of our holiday so ended up asking at reception if they had anything more modern. The staff member was very very helpful and showed us 2 other rooms (I almost fell over when looked through these rooms) they were gorgeous compared to ours...brand new and spacious. We were given 2 options (a suite for $25 more a night or an ocean view apartment for $40 more a night) we decided to go for the ocean view. We were directly overlooking the beach, fully equipped kitchen laundry, separate lounge room (basically everything you could want). I would reccomend checking your room before settling in and ask to see something else if your not happy.....wish we did this the first night.

overall the hotel is in a good location, but it really is a budget option....dont expect any luxuries. No housekeeping, no fresh towels, no pool bar or room service it's basically a glorified caravan park motel not a resort. We were aware of this prior to booking, so we weren't surprised, but if you want a luxury getaway then stay at a resort.

Room Tip: check out your room first and if not happy ask to see what else is available or if an upgrade is pos...

We had a pleasant 3 night stay here in a one bedroom apartment (832) and really could not fault anything. Ours was on the top floor (level 3) and there are no lifts, but we didn't mind the exercise. The apartment was very modern, and quite spacious. Loved how it had a laundry with washer, dryer and basin tucked away in a cupboard. Bathroom was modern with large shower and a separate spa bath. Kingsize bed was very comfortable, and the bedroom also had it's own split system aircon, as well as ceiling fan. Our balcony was large and private, was lovely having breakfast in the morning sun. The central lagoon pool area was great for relaxing around, with lots of sunlounges and lawns. As this is an ideal family resort and it was school holidays, could get noisy at the pool, so if you prefer peace and quiet don't stay in school holidays. It is fantastic how they have saved the large mature gums around the resort grounds, and blended them in with the tropical landscaping. The beach is directly across the road, and restaurants an easy stroll. A good shopping centre with a Coles supermarket is a few minutes by car (Clifton Beach). There are however a couple of little super markets in Palm Cove, but they are expensive. My only issue with the Amphora is that there are no bbq's onsite, they tell you to use the council ones across the road on the esplanade. These bbq's always seemed very popular, so you may have to wait to cook! I think that the Amphora needs to install their own bbq's...really, aren't bbq's standard in any resort! That is the reason I have not given them an overall 5 rating. However, I would definitely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Ground floor if you have young children or are elderly, as no lifts.

We loved this hotel so much that we went back within three months. We have a young 1 year old and she absolutely loved the pool, and so did we, it is so well designed for kids and adults with the different levels. It is definitely a major asset to the hotel. But even the rooms are lovely. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment it has all the facilities you need to enjoy yourself while you are away and enough room to spread out a bit. We loved the the hotel and would highly recommend it.

We enjoyed our stay at Mantra Amphora at Palm Cove. We upgraded our room to beachfront view that me and my husband loved so much. The room had spa which relaxed us after a long trip from Perth. Room is neat and tidy, just need a little bit of dusting on the blinds. Pam from front desk is very helpful even arranging for our tour to the Great Barrier Reef and at "Kuranda" village by sky rail and scenic rail, to view the vast rainforest of Cairns. Palm Cove place is peaceful, lots of restaurant to choose from. We enjoyed coming back to the jetty every night and walked barefoot at the foreshore the we lost track of time just enjoying the quietness and breeze from the beach. It's a nice holiday to remember. Stayed at the Mantra Amphora Palm Cove for 4 nights and got a great deal ($124/nt for staying 3+ nights) on Wotif. Hard to fault for the price. The room-a king spa room- was tidy and clean. The buildings are not brand new, but are very well maintained as are the grounds and pool area. The room looked out over the pool, and the little balcony was great for relaxing in the evening with a drink.

Room interiors were simple, bathroom looked like it had been recently updated while the bedroom area furnishings were a bit older. Comfy bed. Flat screen tele. Air con.

Downsides-not many. The only thing I could say was that, unlike at most hotels/apartments, the Mantra does not offer daily room servicing. This meant that bedding and towels were not replaced during the stay without a charge (unless you were staying 8+ days). Similarly you get one 'complimentary' pool towel with others at a fee. We didn't have an issue with the policy but, since it is out of the ordinary for four star hotels NOT to replenish/clean rooms daily, it would have been good to know as part of the conditions of making the reservation. We still would have stayed, especially at the price offered, but it would have been appreciated if it had been transparent and indeed if the price guide for cleaning etc were available in the room in a brochure/hotel GED etc.

Overall, very happy and would stay again :)
