“Know what you’re getting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2010

I think if you know what you’re getting, then you’ll be fine. We got a special rate on expedia, much lower than all other hotels, which was great. But we didn’t know that most of the place is apt.’s and we would have an "add on" room, meaning VERY SMALL, and no cleaning service all week. We could hardly turn around, only had one night table, and almost no light. We requested more lamps, and after the second request we got one, which helped a bit. The pool had 4 lounge chairs, one was broken. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating, but it’s just not set up for a traveler who isn’t planning to stay in an apartment. But it was clean (when you got there) and fairly modern, so if you are willing to give up hotel ammenities for cost, then this is a good option as well. Oh, everything is an extra charge too...extra towel, or shampoo. Desk is only open until 6, and internet is only in lobby.

I booked the hotel room from hotels.com as they were on special rate and I had to book accomodation in the last minute. They had good reviews but what I have found during my supposedly relaxing holidays was very unpleasant.

The staff was friendly but not informative enough and we found untold terms and conditions applied to our stay later on such as cleaning our own hotel room and the movie channels that has no designated channels or warning before you start watching the movie.

I was very unhappy for the following reasons:

- Room was very dusty, I wiped the bedside table and a thick dust came off.
- Bed cover was stained with some blue ink and has few holes and them and they simply turn them over to hide it from the guests
- Room has two different tones of bulb, one of them was a tall study lamp with the bright white light but even after we turned both lights, the room was very dark.
They should also have provided a proper bedside table lamp, if their intention is to create relaxing mood lighting in the room.
- The TV was very old and it didnt have reception for most of the national channels, we can only see channel 7 and the rest is the movie channels and we have to cope with the blurry pictures
- There were 2 movie channels that the staff couldnt even tell me which channel they are and if you accidentally stay in that channel more than 8 minutes (cant even confirm if this was accumulative minutes throughout the day) then you will be charged for the movie channels.
Movie channel is charged a daily rate for both channels, but I found this very deceitful when the staff couldnt even say which channel we need to avoid
- The pools were open until 9 pm but it has very inadequate lighting
- Rooms will not be cleaned unless we stay there longer than 8 nights, we were staying for 7 nights and each time we need fresh towels we need to bring our old towels to the reception for a new ones and this applies to toiletries as well. We had to do this few times during our long stay and if we would like to have our room clean, they will charge us $50 per day.
- The room key was hard to work out, we ask for 3 sets of different keys and none of them work properly and was told that there is a special way to open it, its not simply sliding the card into the slot, but trust me we have done it their way and sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.
On one occasion when I went to the reception, I found 2 other couples were having the same experience with their doors.
- To top it off on our last night, we received a note saying that we have to leave the room clean and tidy or they will charge us ridiculous amount for cleaning.
Which makes me wonder, no wonder the room was dusty, must have been the previous occupant who cleaned it.

What we expected from the website and what we got for Hotel Style rooom
Room Area 20 sq m plus
Configuration - 1 King Bed or Twin Single -> The King bed I expected was 2 single beds attached together and when we sleep, we had to avoid the middle section where there's the gap
Well Appointed Bathroom -> Bathroom has no shower screen and after shower the bathroom gets very wet and the sliding door does not slide, you have to physically lift it up to close
Remote control Air-conditioning
Remote control TV -> TV was from the 90s or something
Direct dial telephone

Good points:
- Close to Cairns Tropical zoo and local supermarket
- Walking distance to the beach
- Staff was helpful
- Quiet

I will think twice before staying at this place even when they have special rate, I would rather stay somewhere else.

We booked this resort as a last minute stay during our trip to Cairns. We didn't realize we'd booked the budget rate, which meant we were in a Hotel Room. Make sure when you're booking, that you know exactly what room you're getting. The room was quite contemporary, but it was lacking a few items that your average hotel room usually has (eg. tissues, proper lighting). When we got to our room, the curtain rod was hanging off at one side, the fridge was not plugged in, so we had to pull out the bed and plug/switch everything in. The shower needs a glass barrier, because water spits out everywhere. There is no iron or ironing board in their hotel rooms, and these cannot be borrowed from the front desk. For one night, it was fine to stay there, as we were out and about, but the next day was raining and we couldn't stand to stay in such a small room.

We upgraded to a one bedroom apartment for a small amount extra, and when we opened the door, it was amazing to see how huge it was. Such a breath of fresh air. I think we left the room once that day - we just enjoyed having all the space. The apartment had a great kitchen, as we were preparing some of our own meals. When we did head down the main street for food, etc. we didn't walk. It's not as close as it appears, but if it's nice weather, it would be a great stroll.

If you're looking for a patio or balcony, the top floor apartments do not have that, so make sure you ask for what you need. The staff were very friendly, and when we discovered that the tv didn't work in our living room, they came and switched it over no problem.

A couple of suggestions: (1) upgrade to flat screen tvs, and (2) put up glass barriers on showers as water spews everywhere.

So its holiday time and we need to find something relatively late on - three kids, choosy wife etc. don't know anything at all about cairns etc. so first thing to note is that Palm Cove was an excellent choice of location for us. Just the right size of town - with plenty of restaurant choices, good beach, easy access to sights etc. and very safe - good choice for teens who like to have a little independence. all good. as for the resort, bit of a mixed bag. it's 'luxurious' in that slightly brochure-driven way of describing these things. squint and it all looks great - nice pools, tidy rooms etc. However those used to real luxury will need to carry on squinting as beneath the surface there are subtle drawbacks. the first is the lack of ambience at the 'resort' itself. It is stone dead - the public areas are not well designed, and people don't use them - there's no bar, no convivial space at all. at least this makes for a relatively quiet time. The apartments are very large - but quite quirky. for instance there are no main lights - only 10w wall lights designed to give that 'Balinese' feel. well we quite like to read - almost completely impossible by night here. Where are the main lights?? we like to see our food - where is the light?? very strange. One could go on. the better point is that this is relatively good value, well located and quite quiet. that's enough for most of us for holidays; but don't confuse this place with the real luxury on offer at Sea Temple and the resort locations in Port Douglas in particular.

Clean very large apartments, beautiful location, easy stroll to the beach, restaurants, bottle shop, pubs and shops etc. Coles is only a $12 taxi fare away so dont bother hiring a car unless you need to leave palm cove. All staff we meet were very friendly and helpfull.

My husband and I stayed at Mango Lagoon in Palm Cove for 3 nights in May. We can't say enough how perfect this resort was! It's clean, quiet (perfect for relaxation), beautiful pools, great rooms and has the option for a great continental breakfast. Wendy and Grant were both a delight - very knowledgable and pleasant. The promenade & beach in Palm Cove are just a 5 minute walk through a lovely residental area. You won't find better value in Palm Cove. We hope to return one day!

My friend and I stayed here for one night after a lateish flight up from Melbourne. Booked on lastminute.com and it was exceedingly cheap. They were really pleasant about us being late and it was easy to find. Issues with the door keys, and the room was a bit dirty and everything was a bit tired (lamp kinda stuffed, wardrobe dusty etc.) swimming pool was really lovely though. No kettle in the room which would have been helpful for a morning cup of tea. On balance though, a great, cheap, convenient place to stay after a late flight. Watch out though - everywhere is closed for eating early! We ended up eating dry old pies from an IGA up near the KFC at 11pm.
