“Very glad we chose this one!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2008

My boyfriend and I have just spent 3 nights at The Mango Lagoon Resort in Palm Cove and loved it. We didn't actually spend much time at the resort itself as we had trips to the Reef and the Daintree Rainforest booked but we were very impressed by the value for money, the size of the apartment, the lovely Thai-like setting/design of the resort and the helpfulness of the staff, especially Wendy. The apartment was great, really spacious and it was nice to have a proper kitchen and not just a mini hotplate and microwave. While it was a bit more than a 5 minute walk to the beach, even the beachfront hotels have the Esplanade between themselves and the beach so nothing is right on the beach (from what we could see). (We also considered the Melaleuca because it's closer to the beach but from the front it looked pretty tired so we're glad we decided against that!) The pools at the resort aren't huge but they're big enough and the setting is lovely and relaxing. However they could do with a few more sunbeds.

The only real downsides were that the apartment was a bit dusty - nothing too bad but the TVs and bedside tables were all quite dusty and there were a few cobwebs around (but otherwise it was spotless) - and that we were actually charged to receive a fax - not a big deal as my boyfriend's company had to pay but even so, it seems a bit extreme to charge for that, even if it was a long fax!

Wendy was very helpful booking a diving trip for us and we had a great time but, if you want a trip where you can do some sunbathing as well as diving/snorkelling, the Deep Sea Divers Den probably isn't for you as the boat (Ocean Quest) doesn't have much outdoor space and it was pretty crowded when we went.

If eating out in Palm Cove there is a fantastic Thai restaurant called Choc Dee Thai, which also does takeaway (a benefit of having your own plates and cutlery!) and is very reasonably priced. We also ate at The Sebel but while the food was good it was pretty expensive and the service while friendly was very slow - even when we wanted to pay!

We stayed here for 4 nights. Location is about 5 minutes walk from the beach. Not too bad at all. Our 2 kids (4 and 7) like their pool. Very quite and relax. We booked 2 bedrooms and it is BIG. Just 3 years old hotel so everything looks nice. The breakfast which included in our room fare is not too bad (No meat though). We booked through woif.com at the last minute.

overall, it is good base for a family to explore tropical north queensland. you can feel just like home with staying in this hotel.

We found this resort whilst searching the web and i was a bit worried about whether it was as good as it appeared on the site. We is was all we expected and more. We were nearly the only ones there and felt like we we the only ones in that part of the world. The apartment was very lovley and comfortable. Having the kitchen was brilliant to organize our own meals if we felt like it. The tropical gardens and pools were beautiful, with a back drop of the the surrounding mountains made it. Out only complaint would be that the bathroom ended up fairly wet after a shower as there was no shower screen around the spa/shower bath. This was a bit annoying when the floor did become quite wet and slippery. Small price to pay for this beautiful place. I think the only thing that i didnt really think about was that this is self contained units in a resort setting so there is not room service/cleaning unless you stay 7days or more and for other items such as coffee/tea etc it is up to the people staying to buy there own. Not something we planned on and having to buy and pack to bring home when we didnt use it all. However is saying this i would not hesitate in staying again and would just pack some food items and washing powder to bring with me next time. Highly recommended.....we were there during the wet season having experienced a huge deluge of rain this was a very comfortable peaceful place to spend time when the roads were blocked to a lot of areas and tourist experiences not being able to be accessed.

  • Liked — everything,
  • Disliked — minor but maybe the pillows, i like firm ones and they are soft...hard to find anything though

Stayed at the Mango lagoon for five nights in January 2007 our first impression of the resort was how peaceful and well presented it seemed. Our apartment had everything you could possibly need, and when you've been travelling for a while a washing machine is a godsend! We couldn't believe how open and spacious the apartment was. It was very quiet at this time of year which suited us and the walk to the beach/restaurant area in palm cove was nice, walking through quiet suburban streets.
If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break with nice beach/restaurants nearby and access to places of interest the Mango Lagoon is certainly a place to feel like your are somewhere near to paradise.

The experience of a truly memorable escape to a tropical resort commenced the moment we opened the door to our poolside apartment. Beautifully designed, calming and aesthetically pleasing in every way - unbelievable value.

We loved the pools, the fragrant gardens, the breakfast garden, the friendly staff and the seclusion. We didn't need a car. Buses were regular and easily accessed, coach transfers to tourist destinations well organised and easy. The Palm Cove Village restaurants and little shops and galleries were a pleasant stroll away - there if we needed them.

We highly recommend Mango Lagoon. It's peaceful, comfortable, very beautiful and great value.

First impressions of these appartments were certainly very good.Lovely setting ,pretty grounds ,lots of pools to choose from. The appartments are spacious and tastefuly decorated, however as there are only shutters and very little other lighting after dark it became almost impossible to see to read or do anything, next day we asked for exrta lighting and were given a standard lamp. These appartments are advertised as tranquill and relaxing, maybe thats what was first planned but now seem to be let out to mainly Australian families who want to be in the pools until 4 am!!!
The few staff who are on the sight could not have been more helpful but we left after 5 days and moved into Cairns.

Stayed here for 3 nights NOV 2007 in a one bedroom spa apartment.

The resort seemed really quiet, everyone kept to themselves and there are four pools so everyone spread out, it was like we had the whole place to ourselves.

The apartment was furnished in Balinese type style and was very comfortable. We didn't spend too much time in the room but we took a few DVDs to watch and it was nice to relax on the couches with the air
con on.

  • Liked — Felt like we were in Bali again !
  • Disliked — Nothing, was all good.
