“I think it's time to clean... Or get new staff?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at peppers for 5 nights in spa penthouse. Quality was more like a 3 star resort. Pool was excellent! One of the best I have been too. The room though was really disappointing, cups caked in dust, marks on the walls and ceilings, no security to neighbouring suite (i could just wall in) a torn donna, the bed sheets on our first night had sand in them... We hadn't even been to the beach, I suspect it was not changed linen. We did complain to the housekeeping, who said it was an extra fee to change the sheets, as I feel it is best to let managers know I did, so they promised they would attend to the room and... Never did. My question is though... Why if we requested a king spa room for two adults was there only only chair in our suite for us on sit on? In order of places I have stayed in palm cove and port Douglas, I rank 1) mecure Rockford palm cove, 2) sea temple port Douglas, 3) Novotel palm cove, 4) peppers beach club palm cove.

Dear shellbella05,

Thank you for your feedback!
All our spa room balconies are the same size and only have space for one chair. Housekeeping should not have requested payment to change your sheets and I can assure that we always change bed linen. I apologise if this occurred.

Kind regards,

Chris & team

Spent the June long weekend at the Beach Club. My first time in Palm Cove and impressed by the location and style of Peppers - right in the heart of the restaurant strip, yet with beautiful pool and grounds hidden away inside the hotel. As the sea breeze was coolish, the barrier created by the main building afforded protection - perfect for swimming in the expansive 'lagoon'.

Spa studio - excellent and the nespresso machine was a nice touch. My studio overlooked the formal pool and there were weddings there both evenings. This wasn't a problem - could sit in the spa and watch! No noise issue at all. My cousins were staying in a 2 bedroom suite that was privately owned - superbly maintained.

Thoroughly recommended.

Dear thekeystotravel,

Thank you!

The shletered areas and pools do afford protection from the weather and wind, throw in our pool bar and we believe life is pretty good!

Well laid out pleasant resort hotel near to Port Douglas and the beach. Our room was a Spa room with a moderate sized Jacuzzi. I suspect the rooms that front onto the pool and small beach are reserved for families. We had breakfast in the hotel, which was delicious and individually cooked. Our room was a little dark but clean and well set out. No free wifi available

Great location. Nice and close to the beach and short walk into town.
A good, bright, clean room but nothing special for the price paid! Spa on the balcony was a nice feature. Booked a 'queen' bed and got two singles pushed together, so not happy about that. Window shutters allowed a lot of light to come in, early in the morning.
A lovely guest pool & amenities but I am just not sure why it is so expensive!

My wife, our teenage son and I spent 5 nights in June on our first visit to Australia to see the Great Barrier Reef. Our travel agent made this reservation for us. We stayed in a 2 bedroom penthouse suite which was beautiful. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. The only downside to me was the infestation of the kitchen counters and bathroom sinks with very small ants. I know it's a tropical location and you need to expect some inconveniences but we were on the 3rd floor so I think their problem was significant.
Internet service was very spotty and rather poor but we were not there to surf the net. We took a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef which was awesome.
While I would give this place 3 stars because of the bugs, my wife would go up to 4 stars.

Dear ahovagim,

Thank you for your comments.

Ants are difficult to treat successcully in the tropics, we do have a regular pest control programme. All our rooms also hold a can of pest spray as a courtesy for this issue.

Housekeeping will always attend if we can further assist.

Best,

Chris & team

This Peppers resort is right on the Esplanade at Palm Cove, right in the middle of the shops/restaurants, and with the beach over the road. Due to the weather, the beach was a bit yucky, so when the sun did come through, the pool was a popular place.

We stayed in a Penthouse Spa Suite, in building 6, which is quieter, overlooking the Serenity Pool. Our agent had recommended this as she had stayed here herself a few months prior for her wedding. This resort is very similar to the Port Douglas Peppers Beach club. Basement parking, lifts for access, sandy pool (although this one has a swim up bar), and a restaurant. Our booking including breakfast, which was very busy at 9am (lots of families with school holidays), but the second time we went down it was quiet. Pretty standard hot breakfast, continental breakfast, cereals etc. One stand out was the giant jar of Nutella! Nice touch was the homemade jams and marmalade.

The room is small, which is disappointing when you hear it called "suite". If I was staying a longer time, I would get a bigger room. The deck has a spa bath and one chair. There are shutters that slide across the verandah doors for night time. I noticed spiderwebs between the shutter doors and the windows.

Bed was comfortable, but pillows a little flat. TV has standard free to air channels and several Foxtel channels, but no instructions on how to get the Foxtel channels (I figured it out pretty quickly, but some instructions would be helpful for other guests). Internet access via cable and wifi is available, but a bit pricey in my opinion - AUD$6 per 30mins, $9.95 per hr, $30 per day, $40 per 3 days and $60 per week. Surely in this day and age, busy hotels can offer free or cheap wifi. I used my mobile phone instead.
There is a pod coffee machine, with 2 complimentary pods (and more you have to pay for) and a small mini bar.
The bathroom just had a shower (which was fitted with a water saving head...poor pressure). An annoying ladder for hanging towels was put in the corner - I moved it so my fiance didn't trip over it in the night!

Staff were very friendly and helpful - definitely a plus

Room Tip: For quiet rooms, ask for those near the Serenity Pool. If access is an issue, ask for a room with g...

Peppers beach club was the perfect holiday place to stay with kids. It also offered quiet areas too, so would stay there again. We stayed in 2 privately owned apartments so the standard of maintenance is probably different to that of the actual hotel which was very clean. However the penthouse WE stayed in was disappointing for the price you pay - floors had not been cleaned, there were still spillages from previous people and old food under the bed. The kitchen bench was also infested with crawling bugs which made it difficult to even make sandwiches! to an extent this is tolerated due to being in North Queensland however this was a bit more than usual. The agent did however offer to fix any issues we had. The underlay had urine stains on them however the cleaner did change them over. Lucky the beds weren't made when we arrived otherwise we would have been sleeping in other people's "mess"!! It was also REALLY dusty. A great penthouse after I washed the floors myself and cleaned all the surfaces! The 2nd apartment we stayed in had a damp musty smell in the kids bedroom and the living room mat was in desperate need of a steam clean. So i would be careful before booking any privately owned apartments and to those owners - I would strongly recommend a review of the maintenance and cleaning.

Dear Sandy L,

Thank you for your comments. To ensure your precious holiday time is not ruined or interupted by poor service I recommend you stay with and book through Peppers directly.
If there are any issues we can rectify and assist immediately, unlike the privately owned apartments who are off site. We are the officially appointed manager and caretaker of the property, we pride ouselves on our award winning service.

Best regards,

Chris & team
