We booked these apartments on the recommendation of friends who had stayed there before albeit some years earlier. We were not arriving until around 8pm and our earlier apartment had phoned ahead for us. We found the Villas quite easily and obtained access without problem. The apartment was a good size and there was a nice 'feel' to the general development. Our back door lead us to the pool which was surrounded by palms and very picturesque. We had a hire car and so the distance from the beach was not a problem but would have been fairly tiresome if we did not have the car. We were on the road side of the development but did not find noise to be a problem at all.
I get the impression from reading other reviews and from our experience that little 'love and affection' are spent on this development. I never saw the managers/owners and the office was always closed up with a 'phone outside. As I mentioned the apartments seem a little tired and need some money spent on them to bring them up to date. The aprtment could have been cleaner and was rather dusty. We found that there was a serious lack of utensils when we decided to cook up a pasta dish one evening. No serving spoons (at all) no colander to drain the pasta and the cheese grater had so much rust on it it was unusable. I went to the office the next day (only to find it closed) and spoke to the manager on the 'phone. He was obviously elsewhere and had more important duties to attend to. He blamed the lack of utensils on an earlier wedding party and said the cleaners had probably not returned them to our aprtment. We arrived home that evening to find a new grater but no collander or serving spoons. Surely someone should check that each apartment has a full itenary of required items before your guests arrive?
I find the comments about wanting to book through him interesting. When my wife checked in the morning after our arrival they were keen to discuss tours and bookings with her. We found a deal via the internet for the Kurandar train/skyrail that was cheaper and when we mentioned this to him he lost interest.
The location was good for Cairns and the surrounding area and the neach at Palm Cove is very nice. I would look to book closer to the beach if I were to come to Palm Cove again and would suggest that the owners/managers have a look at their customer service and give the apartments a well overdue update.
