“Wish we were there right now!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2005

We spent three days in Palm Cove at the Sebel Reef House on a recent vacation and wish we had arranged more time there. When we arrived the weather was blustery and wet, in spite of it being the "dry" season. We'd had a long flight from Sydney and we were whisked into an upgraded spa room, recently redone according to the front desk staff. Everything from the bed to the verandah with a spa tub and two chaise lounges, as well as the brand new bathroom were wonderful. We had three meals at their restaurant and think it was the best food we had in Palm Cove. I will repeat the warnings of others who loved their stay and say that you should not stay here if your idea of heaven is The Hilton. This is a small, plantation -type beachfront hotel in a very small town. The staff are wonderful, the bar in the lounge is on the honor system, they have two beautiful pools
and are right across a narrow road from the ocean. We loved our stay here and wish it had been longer!

We stayed at the Reef House after recommendations from others that had been many years ago - unfortunately it has stayed exactly the same. It is extremely dated and poor quality despite advertising as 4.5 - 5 star. There are certain things you expect when your room has a standard rack rate of $600 a night - you should expect not to have to shower in the bath, that there is cable TV, perhaps a gym, the curtains should actually work and the windows should seal (we didn't sleep for 2 days until we left). As a parting gift they left $3,500 pre-authorised on my credit card without telling me - I was declined at a restaurant later in the week and had to have the reef house sort it out with my bank - thanks, we won't be back. We left a week early to go to the outrigger next door which was fantastic.

After an utterly unimpressive stay on Hamilton Island, arriving at the Sebel Reef House & Spa was a breath of fresh air! From the charming lobby to the bright, cheerful guest room, we were thrilled with our entire stay. The staff was SO incredibly helpful, as were all of the locals in the little Palm Cove area. The spa services were divine (and we are definitely critics living in So Cal), and the food at their restaurant was the BEST we had during our entire 2 week Australian honeymoon. They have recently replaced the beds, so they are not as firm as they supposedly used to be. The beds also have mosquito nets in the event you want to keep your plantation shutters open all night (our room did not have screens, as most don't). However, don't be afraid, we did not have any bad bug experiences during the middle of the night.

Our absolutely favorite parts about this hotel were the comfy porch swings in front of each room, free DVD movie rentals, and the spa. Overall this is a small boutique type hotel that we highly recommend.

We had a room at the front of the hotel with a great view of the beach and sea. Despite being close to the dining area, relaxing on the veranda was very enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable. And the service was excellent. I'd definitely return.

We spent 7 glorious days at the Sebel in October 04 and also got married there. We preferred this type of small, hotel to the big chain hotels you see everywhere. The service is personal and relaxed and it has atmosphere and character. A lot nicer than any of the large hotels we've stayed in.

We read a couple of the reviews and were slightly fearful, but the rooms were clean and the rest of the hotel was too. It is very peaceful, so dont spoil it by taking your kids there!

The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and they were always smiling. Everyone smiles and says hello, from the manager to the gardners. The spa is a wondeful relaxing experience. We will definitely return for our 5th wedding anniversary & dont have a bad word to say about the whole experience.

I had read some of the unfavourable reviews before we visited the reef house but we absolutely loved the Reef house and wouldn't hestitate to stay again. However, if you want a big corporate hotel with the usual bland decor don't come here! The hotel has a lovely relaxed feel to it which doesn't suit everyone.

The hotel is done in a tropical style and the pools and gardens are delightful with exotic plants, flowers and even a waterfall.

We had a verandah spa room which was absolutely huge. It had a lovely big bed, sofa, outdoor kitchen
very private balcony with loungers and a huge spa bath. Most of the rooms don't have a view except of the pools and ours just had a view of some plants but this was ideal as it meant you could sit in the spa naked!

The bathroom was also large with 2 sinks and bath/shower and although it wasn't the most luxurious bathroom I've ever had, it had everything you could need including excellent toiletries.

The bar operates on an honour system which nice and relaxed and every evening there's free punch.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The meal I had in the restaurant was one of the best I've ever had and it has a lovely open air location opposite the beach.

Palm cove itself is also wonderful and I will definately be back to visit the reef house again.
