“Beach hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Palm Cove looks like a Beach Boy song, very relaxing. The hotel needs a check up, the lounge room and the swimming pools don't look inviting. Our room looked out on the restaurant and the street with the beach. To sit outside undisturbed you better can book another room. The room was oké but the spa/bath was with a little stair in the bedroom. The bathroom was fortunately separately only when you took a shower everything is wet. Breakfast is very simple when you don't order continental. It was nice to use for free the bikes.

Room Tip: room 112 brigadier beachfront spa room when there is a party, wedding, in the restaurant you also...

Had a great deal we could not refuse so hopped in the car the next morning and drove to Palm Cove. This is our 2nd visit to this hotel that is now part of the Rydges group. The hotel is a bit tired and they are currently working through and going it up. I think Rydges have had it for about 18 mths (when we last went there) and possibly have been waiting for the tourism industry to improve before spending money.
This is right on the beach road and has a great view from the restaurant area. The food is good and reasonably priced for Palm Cove. The rooms are nice. We had a 2nd floor unit overlooking the freshwater pool. The staff are very nice and attentive without being pushy.

Room Tip: There are a variety of rooms to choose from and most seem to have a good aspect.

This hotel has been at this location for many years, but has been kept up to date. I stayed here 25 years ago and they have kept the good parts. It has the look and feel of a modern comfortable spa with multiple pools. The rooms can be quite romantic. The location in Palm Cove can't be beat. The food is excellent and the dining area provides a great view of the beach. The staff was very helpful, taking care coordinating with tour companies and arranging my return to the airport on a very busy day.

Room Tip: Get one of the small rooms toward the front of the hotel. You don't have to go through the pool...

Hotel is getting a bit old but has large comfortable rooms with tropical feel.
Very nice staff and great dining area. Very relaxing. Lovely massage at spa centre.
Two very pleasant pools. Great location opposite the beach.

Lovely to read about your relaxing stay. Our rooms are nice and large particularly with the verandahs/balconies which provide the perfect way to enjoy the very best of the tropics, coupled with our location the best of Palm Cove.

Thank you

Stayed here for our 24th wedding anniversary. Resort location perfect right on the beach in themiddle of Palm Cover so all local resteraunts within walking distance.

Complimentary cocktails and canapes between 5 and 6 every around the pool was lovely.

STAFF were some of the best I have encountered in all my travels.

The resort needs a little maintenance to the exterior.

Breafast was good quality. However the only disappointment was the meal we had at the resteraunt which was very overpriced, and my wifes chicken was RAW in the middle even after waiting 50mins for it to be cooked. Mentioned it to the waiter and didn't even get so much as an apology for what is a serious salmonella risk. Portions were small. Waiter didn't bother to tell us about specials which we noticed on the blackboard as we left.

Would stay at the resort but would not recommend having an evening meal there when there are some really high quality local places with very reasonable prices and great service.

Room Tip: If you need to would pay a little extra for a water view

The Reef House is without doubt the most ambiant and enchanting Resort in Palm Cove.
If you want a place to totally unwind then this is the place for you. You can either relax by the pool with the sounds of waterfalls in tropical and private gardens with a choice of two pools either salt water heated or freshwater. Or you may prefer a spa with cascading waterfall or right out the front a swim or sunbake on the Palm fringed tropical beach of Palm Cove. Walking through the Hotel their are lantens to light the way and beautiful balconies to look onto the tropical gardens that are very private. The rooms are very spacious with lovely furnishings and balanise style, comfortable beds. The restaurant is absolutely fantastic and we have heard one of the most favoured amongst the locals. It outlooks the ocean off an open air verandah underneath the most amazing grand old Malaluca trees. Our favourite dish was an entree of Pork Belly with scallops on-top with the most amazing apple, ginger & chilli glaze sauce. The Manager Ryan is so welcoming, enthusiastic and eager to please that you feel quite spoilt staying here. At 5pm in the Brigadeer Bar all guests are treated to free punch & a sample of the restaurants tasty treats, the staff really look after you here. The Reef House is very nordic and tropical in its decor and anything but sterile brand new. It also happens to have one of Australia's most award winning spa's. The Reef House is great value for money and we have been back every year for the last four years and counting down the days till we return again. What more can I say, great location in front of swimming net enclosed beach area with life guards. Ten minutes to Freshwater station to train & skyrail to Kuranda in the tropical mountains where you can visit the markets or see the most spectacular Butterfly enclosure of electric blue Ulysses & Green Cairns Birdwing Butterflys. Fifteen minutes to Cairns to cruise out to the Barrier Reef to snorkel or whatever else takes your fancy. So much to see and do or just look at the local shops and coffee at local cafe's. Oh & at night The Reef House and the pathways of Palm Cove are lit up with fairy lights and enchanting like the Magic Faraway Tree.

Great location on the water at Palm Cove. Palm Cove itself was a very nice surprise as I didn't know what to expect. Nice restaurants and easy public transport into Cairns (not very frequent through!).
The free punch was always welcome and the honour system the bar operated on was also a nice quirky touch which I am assured has some sort of history behind it. For the middle of summer, it was still an excellent time to be there and the rooms stayed cool in the evening.
Loved the pools, breakfast and the service. Recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the water get a nice sea breeze in the evening.

Great tip regarding our rooms closer to the beach which do enjoy beautiful ocean breezes. Our complimentary tropical punch at sunset and honesty bar are traditions that date back to the early 1970's a wonderful part of the Resort's history.

Thank you
