“A few things I didn't like...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Ok so I had a few issues with this park...
1. The camp area for tents is on the outside of the park...no boom gate card is given as you park directly across from reception & camp area is a few steps away.. I found this idea to be quite odd & not very secure. On the positive tent sites were a decent size.
2. The camp kitchen.. Ok so we know from the sign you have an issue with ants & this is very visible as the kitchen (which fits 3people max) & is very basic is swarming with ants on counter & cooker etc but surely you can give it a thorough clean?it is disgusting and thankfully we had our own cooking equipment as there is no way I could cook in there. They say it is cleaned daily but I beg to differ. A quick wipe of counter is not sufficient.
3. The showers...having a shower if you are over 5 foot 5 will prove to be pretty uncomfortable as the shower head has been fitted way too low..

On the morning we were leaving we noticed hundreds of ants had got into car bonnet which took us quite a while to resolve & was pretty annoying.
Although it is a reasonably priced caravan park I would advise against camping in a tent here but if you do: don't eat in your tent... Don't cook in kitchen- it's gross.

Room Tip: Do NOT eat in on around your tent... Ants will find there way in! (Bring insect repellant)

We appreciate you taking the time to review Pilbara Holiday Park. We are sorry to hear your stay with us did not meet expectations.

All the tent sites at Pilbara Holiday Park are inside the park and next to the swimming pool. This makes them one of the better located campsites in our Parks.

The camp kitchen is very small, with a BBQ and hot plates outside under cover and an outdoor take for the comfit of our guests. The camp kitchen is cleaned daily, our staff take the cleanliness and hygiene of the park seriously. If there are issues with cleanliness and if they are bought to the attention of Management they will be taken care of immediately.

The North West region does have a problem with Singapore Ants and at different times of the year they are more active and can cause a problem. There are a number of signs around the park informing guest of this.

Thank you for your feedback we take our guest comments on board to ensure our staff and parks deliver and enjoyable holiday.

For powered tent site, they put you at the outside of their park, and you only can park your car at the car park opposite the reception. The toilet is very far away, and the kitchen is very small and dirty.

For camping, avoid here.

Thank you for taking the time to review Pilbara Holiday Park, we are sorry to hear your stay did not meet with expectations.
We can assure you we take the hygiene and cleanliness of our facilities very seriously. The camp kitchen is cleaned daily and will be immediately cleaned if it has been report by a guest or if the staff see that it is in need of another clean.
Unfortunately our tent area is not as large as some parks, so to give our guests maximum space we need to have the cars parked in front of the tent area.
We do appreciate your feedback.

We stayed here for just one night nearing the end of peak season and had no issues. We found the front reception staff friendly and helpful.

We have a camper trailer set up that required pegging into the grass which we were hesitant to use as there are sprinklers installed and warnings not to peg into them. So we made do on our concrete slab. Large individual plots. Reasonable shade.

Found the bathrooms plentiful and clean. The camp kitchen was tidy and well stocked. Nice bbq areas. Nice playground for the kids. Nice pool area.

Liked the fact that even though there were not many people in the park, staff had everyone well spaced.

Wasnt planning on coming to Karratha but decided it might be interesting. On arrival I was greeted by a friendly staff member - Glenn who had our booking ready for us. Everything was explained and even though our intial site was not suitable we were able to change with no hassles. Karratha itself is a neat little town surrounded by busy industry. It is worth the drive to Dampier and also to the NWS Gas visitor centre. Our time was limited to two days and part of the second day our car was being checked for an engine issue - thanks to Karratha Toyota (Pilbara Motor Group) for slotting us in at short notice. It's not Broome but it's a pleasant stop.

If you like noise, yobbos in fluro, tired staff members who dont really want to help, and a park with no real holiday feeling, then this is the park for you!

On reflection, we should have just skipped Karratha on our trip around the country, the whole town has a weird, horrible feeling to it, this park included.

We were forced to stay here 10 days due to illnesses/hospital trips. The only positive about the park was that it was close to the hospital.

If you are planning to visit Karratha I wouldnt bother booking any more than 2 days somewhere.

The pool area was nice, but that doesnt really make up for the lack of good feeling anywhere else in the park.
Noisy streets, mountain bike park at back of caravan park, trail bikes in hills around park, worst located dump point we have ever come across ( and we have visited a few parks!) Right at the entrance driveway to the park, wedged between a gas tank and the roadway.

Like the whole of Karratha, its all just about dollars & thats all you are here, a dollar sign.

Really expected a lot more from a BIG 4/ Aspen park, they promote themselves as being premier tourist parks & charge a lot more than other places too, but dont know why.

During our stay we experienced a near record rainfallof 209 mm in 24 hours. Thought that maybe staff would come around to check on their paying guests to check all was ok after all this rain, but no.

No grass options for camper trailers either. There is a grassed area, but only for small tents as it is barricaded from the road,so you have to make do with a concrete slab. Grass next to slab, but they have sprinklers which come on all the time so thats not an option to set up on the grass.

Overall, very disappointed is the word.

Thank you for your feedback

We are sorry to hear you were not pleased with the township of Karratha nor our Holiday Park. Most tourists find Karratha a great place to base themselves as there are a variety of day trips available from this central point.

Many of our previous guests and ourselves who live on site have not found the park noisy in previous times so we apologise if you experienced any noise disruptions. The workers that stay in the park we have found to never have caused a problem previously as most retire early with early starts. We will keep note of your feedback, overall the park has been commented as very peaceful.

We’re very sad to hear you were ill during your stay and required medical attention, our team would have been more than happy to assist you if they were aware of your circumstances during your stay or if you required any assistance with the weather Karratha experienced.

The dump point is located in an inconvenient area, due to the park being designed in the 1980’s it still has some functional difficulties for the newer style camper trailers visiting.

Being located within the Pilbara many caravan parks have only red dirt sites so we do try to provide at least small parts of grass for all guests to enjoy in an area which does have strong council water restrictions.

Prices in remote locations such as Karratha are indicative of the high costs involved with the upkeep and maintenance as well as the high overhead costs to staff the property. In a town heavily driven by the resource industry this influences the higher costs we incur to operate.

Thanks again for your feedback and time taken to review.

I am driving around Australia so stay at a variety of accommodation, including cabins at Caravan parks, so this was a one night stop over. I was greeted warmly at Reception and found the accommodation most suitable for my needs. I did have a problem with my key (which did not want to work after I was up early to take photos around Karratha, but a helpful staff member opened up for me - for which I was very grateful. This place was one of the best I have stayed in. It was just a short walk to the beachfront too, which I thought was a bonus!!
