“Disappointed - expected more from a supposed premier holiday park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

If you like noise, yobbos in fluro, tired staff members who dont really want to help, and a park with no real holiday feeling, then this is the park for you!

On reflection, we should have just skipped Karratha on our trip around the country, the whole town has a weird, horrible feeling to it, this park included.

We were forced to stay here 10 days due to illnesses/hospital trips. The only positive about the park was that it was close to the hospital.

If you are planning to visit Karratha I wouldnt bother booking any more than 2 days somewhere.

The pool area was nice, but that doesnt really make up for the lack of good feeling anywhere else in the park.
Noisy streets, mountain bike park at back of caravan park, trail bikes in hills around park, worst located dump point we have ever come across ( and we have visited a few parks!) Right at the entrance driveway to the park, wedged between a gas tank and the roadway.

Like the whole of Karratha, its all just about dollars & thats all you are here, a dollar sign.

Really expected a lot more from a BIG 4/ Aspen park, they promote themselves as being premier tourist parks & charge a lot more than other places too, but dont know why.

During our stay we experienced a near record rainfallof 209 mm in 24 hours. Thought that maybe staff would come around to check on their paying guests to check all was ok after all this rain, but no.

No grass options for camper trailers either. There is a grassed area, but only for small tents as it is barricaded from the road,so you have to make do with a concrete slab. Grass next to slab, but they have sprinklers which come on all the time so thats not an option to set up on the grass.

Overall, very disappointed is the word.

Thank you for your feedback

We are sorry to hear you were not pleased with the township of Karratha nor our Holiday Park. Most tourists find Karratha a great place to base themselves as there are a variety of day trips available from this central point.

Many of our previous guests and ourselves who live on site have not found the park noisy in previous times so we apologise if you experienced any noise disruptions. The workers that stay in the park we have found to never have caused a problem previously as most retire early with early starts. We will keep note of your feedback, overall the park has been commented as very peaceful.

We’re very sad to hear you were ill during your stay and required medical attention, our team would have been more than happy to assist you if they were aware of your circumstances during your stay or if you required any assistance with the weather Karratha experienced.

The dump point is located in an inconvenient area, due to the park being designed in the 1980’s it still has some functional difficulties for the newer style camper trailers visiting.

Being located within the Pilbara many caravan parks have only red dirt sites so we do try to provide at least small parts of grass for all guests to enjoy in an area which does have strong council water restrictions.

Prices in remote locations such as Karratha are indicative of the high costs involved with the upkeep and maintenance as well as the high overhead costs to staff the property. In a town heavily driven by the resource industry this influences the higher costs we incur to operate.

Thanks again for your feedback and time taken to review.

I am driving around Australia so stay at a variety of accommodation, including cabins at Caravan parks, so this was a one night stop over. I was greeted warmly at Reception and found the accommodation most suitable for my needs. I did have a problem with my key (which did not want to work after I was up early to take photos around Karratha, but a helpful staff member opened up for me - for which I was very grateful. This place was one of the best I have stayed in. It was just a short walk to the beachfront too, which I thought was a bonus!!

When we arrived Karrath,we had some promble of our car, so we should stay in here and fix it ,at least we need to stay here for 6 days . we found this holiday park, the reception ask us for working ? We said for holiday , and we stay in camping ground($40/per day).but reception told us , stay in camping ground the maximun are 3 days , we cant even extend any 1 day more..we really cant understand , here there's many workers stay here for long time ..so that mean this is not really holiday park , is just for workers who working in this town ? We cant understand why we cant extend..the park has 11 camping ground sites , only us camping here. There're many vacancy as possible. The park very clean and tidy. They sock the ground 8am every morning ,But for people who stay on camp groud , I've no idea..! We stayed here 3 days, the last check out time is 10 am, we left the our chair & table on the ground, but the staff told us to move it . But why ? They really care the place clean and the grass of campsite. But i didnt feel very comfortable, and get respect. Maybe because we just stayed on campsite ? Infact here is "Working Park" not " Hoilday Park" , I didnt know the big 4 holiday park is like this !! We feel very disappointed ....

Thank you for your review. We appreciate all our guest’s comments. We apologise for any misunderstanding caused during check-in for your stay. For the comfort of all our guests we water the grass as much as possible (within water restrictions) to keep the campsites as fresh and green as possible and we apologise if your campsite got wet. Karratha has a high workforce and we provide accommodation for both tourists and workers at our park.

We stayed here last year for a week, but this time only a few days stopover. In the past the ablution block " A " was pristine, but unfortunately this was not the case, and according to the duty roster it had only been completed minutes before! There also was a leaking toilet system that needed attention and still did three days later! This Park has numerous mining workers staying in Units, and they all start very early in the morning. I would like to suggest that an exchange of ideas be introduced regarding the exit route. If allocated a site from 16-29 be aware that from 5am there is a constant passing of motor vehicles on their way to work so no time to enjoy a sleep in! Check in staff were very friendly and efficient and they had an excellent book exchange within their office area.

Stayed in one of the motel rooms, amazed at how clean it was. This must be the best value accommodation in Karratha. If you are a BIG 4 member you'll also get a discount. I'll certainly be going back!

I stayed on a powered site for one week. The staff were very friendly and helpful, both on the phone when booking and again face to face when I arrived. Although the park was very busy, they were flexible enough to find a site for the period I required.
The park is clean, tidy and well maintained. There is a small shop at reception, very handy if you've forgotten to pick up milk while in town.
