“Trendy, comfortable, cool escape!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2010

My husband and I visited Kununurra for a quick getaway and chose The Kimberley Grande based on the good reviews on Trip Advisor. We had a Garden View room and were very pleased with the modern furnishings, decor, large bathroom (big shower! And nice toiletries) and ceiling fan and air-con (to keep us cool on those 40 degree days!). The reception, pool area, bistro and bar (loved the wooden furnishings and gorgeous bar... the nice range of wine on offer didn't hurt either!) looked great and were clean. We didn't get a chance to use the pool but did note that the area could do with a bit more shade. Staff were friendly and pleasant to deal with. Dinner in the bistro was nice (the menu was limited but we easily found something we liked) and on the Saturday night there was tasty wood fired pizza. Breakfast was disappointing. Hot food was minimal and on our second breakfast no hot food was available. Our main complaint would be that we booked a package (Romance in February) for our stay that included breakfast, drink and dinner voucher and the staff were not aware of the package details. We had to explain what was included to the reception staff at check in and check out and also to the bistro staff at breakfast and dinner. As the package was promoted on their own website (and we booked through their website) it was rather annoying to have to keep explaining the package to everyone.

My partner and I stayed at the Kimberely Grande recently and mostly enjoyed our stay there. We were tossing up between the two top rated hotels listed on Trip Advisor and as its the non tourist season asked if there was a better price that could be done on rooms. The Kimberely Grande offered us by far the best deal with an upgrade to the Durack Spa Suite and it was a really lovely room with all the little extras - really happy with the room overall. For our stay there were both some pros and some cons:

Pros - Really friendly staff - everyone we met was fantastic and very helpful. Check in for the most part was a breeze - however our booking could not be found in the system for the upgraded room but this was sorted out quickly. on the day we were leaving we were allowed a very late check out which was just great. The pool was lovely and we had no trouble finding a shady spot to move our beds to. MInd you we pretty much had the pool to ourselves!! We had dinner in the restuarant on the first night and there was a new chef so the menu was very limited - we could chose either from the small menu or the buffet. We opted for the a la carte and were not disappointed with our meal - really delicious and the service was great.

There is a nice table and chair set up at the back of each room and we loved all the grass and trees out there. Really peaceful place to enjoy the air and relax.

Cons: The pillows on the beds were very hard - there was two spare pillows in the cupboard which were just as hard as the ones on the bed. Would really liked to have had softer pillows.

The one night we ate in the restaurant and ordered from the a la carte we were seated close to the buffet and I turned to see a staff member with her uncovered hand lean into the bay marie and pick up a couple of vegetables with her hand and then put them back into the tray - walking away and wiping the sweat off her forehead. We were shocked and glad that we had not opted for the hot buffet that night. This lack of hygiene and appropriate food handling was made in full view of anyone who may have been looking at her at the time. We did not eat in the restuarant again and it also updated their very small a la carte menu selection but the price of a steak was too expensive for us so we ate at the Country Club where the meals were delicious with a wider selection.

So overall I would definately stay there again particularly as the Kimberely Grande was much more eager for our business than their opposition. The staff were very friendly and the hotel can now definately be seen from the road (nice big sign) and Sue at Thrifty is very helpful also.

We stayed here as part of our tour around the Kimberleys and could not have wanted for more.
The rooms were tasteful and well appointed with the Suite we stayed in really having the extras you expect (Coffee machine, Large Spa bath etc).

Staff were helpful and friendly allowing us an early check in and late check out due to our travel plans.

It is reftreshing to see the service and quality so often maligned in rest of NT was right up there with the best in the Hotel.

We look forward to our future stays here and would chosse this hotel above others.

Our first challenge was finding this place!! There are no signs on the road or on the front of the hotel. Apparently they are "working on it". The rooms were nice and spacious. They have a great pool area which has zero shade!! They definitely need to fix this, but a staff member said the owners think that poles/sails, etc look ugly!! I'd rather have a few poles and some shade!

The restaurant was fine - nothing special, nothing bad. Service was a bit slow but you get used to that in the Kimberley.

They wouldn't let a guy in to have dinner with his friends as he had thongs on which I thought was a bit rich considering the location, and the fact it was really empty, and the fact that I had them on too but they didn't bat an eyelid! They did concede in the end but it was really unnecessary.

They allowed us a late checkout at no cost which was great, and a lift to the airport.

The Kimberley Grande hotel in Kununurra is new and has excellent facilities. The rooms are very large. We had a 'superior queen' which came with a couch and coffee table which is a rarity in hotel rooms in the Kimberley area. The large bathroom is well set out and the bed is one of those made up of two king singles making for a comfortable night's sleep for everyone. The large swimming pool is great for a dip in the heat although a bit of shade over some it would be good with the high temperatures there. It was 36 degrees when we were there in August. We had a bed and breakfast package and the buffet breakfast is tasty with fresh pancakes as well as cereals and hot food, everything the traveller needs to prepare for a day's sightseeing.

Only 10 minute walk from the city, with a Thrifty Car rental (strongly recommend) in a street behind a hotel. The is a beautiful lake in the front of the hotel, where you can see the lake appeared after the Kununurra Dam was build, seeing few dead tree tops in the water. The park in the front has massive boab trees and the rooms are clean and large.

The swimming pool is clean yet noone is swimming. The back of the hotel is pointing to a commercial road and factories however there is no noise.

Kununurra’s premier resort captures the Kimberley’s sense of ‘place and space’. The colours and textures of the landscape are reflected in the décor, furnishings and original artwork.

The Kimberley Grande offers luxurious spa suites, graciously sized guest rooms, a range of dining options, a sports bar with super size screen, a 25m swimming pool with spa and lap lanes, personalised service and tours, superior conference facilities and customised corporate experiences.

This homestead-style resort, a member of Marilynne Paspaley AM’s Pinctada Hotels & Resorts, was home to cast and crew during the filming of of Baz Luhrmanns epic movie Australia.

Good hotel and very cozy after 2 weeks in the wilderness on a bus and camping between Broome and Kununurra. Recommend!

Rooms and facilities were clean and light, pool is nice. What made it for us was the young but super helpful reception staff who couldn't have been friendlier.
