“Pleasant hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

Once you get over the fact that you are paying capital city prices to stay in a small town (unfortunately every hotel in town is equally expensive) the Kimberley Grande turns out to be a good choice. The hotel is opposite a great park and waterfront area so a good choice in terms of location.

Rooms are comfortable and functional (the claimed 4 stars are a bit of a stretch) and roomy. There is a pleasant verandah outside, the air con works and the expected amenities are provided. A complaint would be the empty ice tray in the freezer and a minibar bare of anything but a jug of water. Given that most guests arrive after a long flight or an even longer drive, these oversights amount to laziness.

The onsite restaurant and bar are both pleasant with good service. Dinner was excellent. The included breakfast buffet however was dismal and not worth bothering with, free or not.

Room Tip: Bring some refreshments to stock your bar fridge.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted you chose to stay with us at Pinctada Kimberley Grande. We appreciate all feedback both positive and negative and we will address your comments immediately.

With regards to the mini bar, we are the only property in Kununurra that provide this service though it is an order process on an in-room order form rather than displayed. Kununurra has certain alcohol restrictions imposed by our local Liquor Accord and a decsion was made not to have alcohol readily available in our guest rooms. Our reservations staff are instructed to offer you this service at the time of booking though it seems this was neglected and I do apologise.

Anagin we thank you for your comments and hope you enjoyed what was a fantastic week in Kununurra with the Kimberley Moon Festival and Ord Valley Muster being on. We hope you choose Pinctada Kimberley Grande when you next visit the magestic East Kimberley region.

Best regards,

Simon Della Santa

I love staying here when in Kununurra. The rooms are clean, comfortable and extremely spacious. This property oozes Outback with style. The food is pleasant and the photography in the bar 'interesting' :)

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

We came to Kununurra with friends who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. They booked the accommodation and we stayed 6 nights. My wife and I met there 40 years ago.
The room was pleasantly spacious as was the shower and bathroom.
We are in our mid 60s and found that although we were slightly out of town (on the lake), we could easily walk to the town and restaurants of our choice and felt perfectly safe at night.
The service and the food at the Pinctada Kimberly Grande was great as was the bar.
It was disappointing to that weeds were growing (and not removed) around the pool area.
We had a nice stay

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2011

During our wonderful trip in september this year through West Australia we stayed for two nights in the Kimberley Grande Hotel in Kununurra. The first thing we did after coming over with the little Cessna from the Bungles was a lovely swim in the big pool which we had all alone just for the two of us. We enjoyed that very much as it had been a rather hot day. And another thing we appreciated very much was that we could do all our washing. We just had to change money at the reception into 1 Dollar-pieces to feed the machine. And although the hotel was pretty full, there was nobody a in the laundry room.
All the rooms are placed in a long row one against the other like little bungalows. A nice, quiet and clean bedroom with TV, a fridge as well as a little space with everything to make tea or coffee. And then a beautiful bathroom with a shower, a large frontwindow which could be opened to the lawn in the backyard leaded to two chairs in the shade of the roof.
The meals in the restaurant with friendly staff were delicious and we preferred to sit out in the patio instead of indoors, as it was much more agreeable.
Going across the mainroad outside the complex one could go for a long walk along the shore of the Lilly Creek Lagoon, a branch of the Ord River, or just walk up to the center of the town nearby.

I found the physical hotel itself to be really disappointing. The layout is very ordinary - my room was close to the highway so I could hear/feel trucks regularly, I had a driveway at the back door and parked my car at the front door. My biggest issue with the room was the woefully inadequate lock on the door - the sort you would use on an internal door, not an external door. There was also no slide bolt or peephole. The safe in the room had no instructions for use, and I guessed wrongly how to use it which resulted in it beeping non stop for (a very long) 5 minutes. No one was at reception to help me (although it was apparently within opening hours), so I was pretty pleased when it stopped beeping of its own accord.

Despite the very ordinary design of the hotel and inadequate security, the staff in the restaurant and bar were fantastic. I think they were possibly the best hospitality staff I've encountered in WA. Great, friendly and efficient service.

I stayed at the Kimberley Grande in SEP 2011.. I was shocked at the size of the rooms.
Absoluelty amazing!
The King beds were king beds - not zipped together so you could sleep in the middle and not worry about a crack.
The only bad thing about the rooms was that because it was so big the tv was too far away and if you someone with bad eye sight (like me) it was hard to see properly. But it was 81cm flat screen so all up to date, some rooms have coffee machines, the spa suites are beautiful although if you have other people in the room, i dont recommend it as there is no bathroom privacy.
The bathrooms did have a window that couldnt be closed so you could here was was going on next door if they were loud enough.

Restaurant was lovely.
Food was amazing.

This hotel is the cloest the the airport which is approx 3 minute drive. They will arrange an airporrt pick up for you just ring through to reception prior to your arrival.

Room Tip: Just think about who you are travelling with. Pool rooms were great but you had to walk a long way a...
