I was incredibly lucky to find that my husband had booked a surprise weekend away for our 6th Wedding Anniversary at Mt Glorious Getaways. His requirements was it needed to be within an hour of Brisbane (a teenage son at home, in case we needed to get back in a hurry) and he stumbled on this place when doing a bit of online investigation.
I am so pleased that he did. From booking, arriving and departing everything was wonderfully smooth - we loved that our key was left inside our cabin, thus negating the need to "check in" and truly giving us the sense of seclusion. There are four cabins on the property and it appeared that we were the only guests this past weekend, so that was a bonus and added to the seclusion side of things.
We had the Kingfisher cabin which was right at the end of the "road" and very private, with views (albeit somewhat smokey due to bush fires) of the coastline off in the distance from the deck. The cabin was gorgeous - small and compact but perfect for a couple. It truly was a "log" cabin in the middle of the rainforest. The bed was beautifully comfortable with amazing pillows (not always a given). The kitchen had everything you could want in self-catering accommodation and even things like candles, lanterns and torches had been thought of. The bathroom was compact and only had a shower, but who needs more. Of course the fireplace would be a real drawcard in winter (and we will return for a winter weekend) but even on a warm day down in Brisbane, it was just cool enough up the "mountain" to light the fire on our first night.
There is a great BBQ out on the deck and a picnic table in the clearing near the cabin - where we shared drinks and nibbles each evening. For us it was perfect - a real chance to get away from it all and relax and do very little. We did do one of the bushwalks on the Saturday to the falls which was lovely through the rainforest - so do that if you are up for a bit of easy exercise.
There are a couple of cafe's nearby - although not really walking distance. We had lunch at the Miaila Tearoom which was pleasant - very heavily visited by bike riders out for their weekend ride through the hills. The food was great - although nothing to write home about. Bit of a bummer that it wasn't licensed, we could have used a beer after our bush walk but not to worry.
I am not sure if there are any restaurants/cafe's that open at night up the mountain, so take all your food with you - The Gap is just a short 45 min drive away where there is a Coles supermarket and that's where we stocked up. The cabin does supply a bit of tea/coffee/milk but only enough really for one or two cups. Also remember to take mozzie repellant if you are there in the summer months - although again our cabin had some in it - but better to be safe than sorry.
My only real complaint is that I wished there had been a swimming pool on the property - in the hot summer months it would be lovely to laze around it or have a cooling dip after getting back from a bushwalk - but I just rigged up a hose in the tree and had a quick spray. Not quite the same but better than nothing. That was the only thing really missing.
So thank you Mt Glorious Getaways - you were just what we needed and it was very romantic and secluded and we loved it and we will be back!
