The breathtaking views, the design furniture and inimitable sense of decoration, the warm welcoming touch from the owner and family, the good advices on what to do and where to go, the trademark house-caipiroska, the kindness of the staff and the fruity breakfasts... You should absolutely love every minute of your time there. Staying at Gilles' is a delightful and relaxing experience which makes you wish that your vacation/weekend would simply never end...

Just one thing to keep in mind though : You absolutely NEED to have a car if you stay at Gilles (it's on top of a mountain - loma - and a few kilometers from the center of Las terrenas).

Enjoy...

Room Tip: stayed in "the Bungalow" (slightly separate from the rest of the house) - the view is gorg...

I never write reviews ( although I will be honest enough to confess that I read them and do find some of them helpful ... ) but I will make this one exception for La Casa de Gilles . It so deserves to be noted !!! I am just back from a trip to DR with my husband and we feel we have finally found "paradise on earth" : this B & B is absolutely amazing and the owner, Gilles is the most awesome host ever .
First the house : ideally located on the hills above Las Terrenas - far enough to avoid the crowds and yet close enough ( a seven minutes ride ) to the little city with its restaurants , beaches and shops .The view is truly unbelievable , overlooking the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean and you can see ( and marvel at ) the coast all the way up to Las Galeras . The house is an architectural beauty . Gilles is a French fashion photographer ( btw , much too modest to put any of his own work on the walls ) , and his aesthetic sense is reflected throughout his house : wherever your eyes settle you will discover a gem , be it photos from Sarah Moon , a chair or a lamp from Philippe Starck or old wooden toys such as a bright red mini Ferrari . Every single object is tasteful and tells a story - paintings, local art on the walls, Venetian pigeons, Greek columns , daybeds with white veils ,and many other wonders , all of this turns this place into a mix of magic, romanticism and Bohemian chic .
I have visited all the bedrooms , and although we stayed in the bungalow ( adorable , private with terrace and chairs ) , I can recommend any room as they all are , once again, a testimony of the host 's perfect eclectic and aesthetic taste . In each sparkling clean room you will find bottled mineral water, swimming pool towels, a ceiling fan , candles , insect repellent ( although , except for the occasional mosquito we did not see one single bug in the entire house ) and free wifi .
The swimming pool is indeed very beautiful and quite long , allowing good swimming .
Breakfast is served on a protected part of the terrace where you can both marvel at the view ... and at what is served on your plate by the devoted cook Mari : fresh delicious baguette with butter and local jam ( we told Gilles how much we loooved the fig jam only to find two pots on our bed the next day for us to take back home that he had bought for us !!! ) , fresh fruit salad , fresh home made orange juice , cheese , eggs etc . " Simply " amazing !!!
In the evenings if you would rather not eat in the village , you can stay at the house and Gilles will open up his kitchen for you and you can have the most delicious meals cooked by either chef Mari or chef Rosy - we tried , ... and never went back to eat out in the evenings . We stayed at Gilles and enjoyed the food, his delightful company and the shiny stars .
Now Gilles : the most discreet, helpful , thoughtful , amazing host you could dream of . Seriously goes above and beyond what you could expect , continually making sure you are happy and having the best time , and yet giving you plenty of space . That said, although we generally prefer to keep to ourselves , my husband and I did seek Gilles 's remarkable and joyful company . On day one , as we arrived while he was having lunch , Gilles invited us to share his meal ( yes, at no charge ... ) . That ' s one of the many examples of how incredible an host he is .
Before ending up at Gilles 's , we have stayed at and visited other B& B in the region - do not do like us , instead do yourselves a favor : go straight to Gilles ... My husband and I have indeed traveled the world and we both agree that La Casa de Gilles is one of those very rare gems which deserve a raving review .
And all we can think about is our next stay in "our" dream house .

Wow - after living in and traveling around the DR for nearly a year, I've found my favorite place in the country. Casa de Gilles is even more beautiful and clean than the pictures portray. Stunning artwork decorates each room and wall of the contemporary home, with a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean backdropping it all. Gilles was a delightful and thoughtful host, giving us space and ensuring we felt that his home was ours. Maria was wonderful and prepared a fabulous breakfast of tropical fruits, spreads, bread and cheeses, fresh squeezed juices, coffee, tea, etc. I'm already planning to visit again and sad that our trip is over!

One of the best, most relaxing, and beautiful places I've stayed in the world - truly memorable.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the privacy and view of the lower room with the king sized bed. The ceiling fan was suff...

When my partner and I found Gilles' home on TripAdvisor, we immediately thought it was too good to be true. The pictures were stunning, the reviews wonderful, and the price was perfect. Not only did Casa de Gilles meet our expecations upon arrival, it quickly exceeded them.

First, Gilles is the most amazing host. He gave us plenty of space, but my partner and I sought him out. We enjoyed hearing his stories of days spent as a fashion photographer, learning about the history of Las Terrenas, and playing cards and enjoying caiprihinas until the wee hours. It was an unexpected and very pleasant part of our trip. When we arrived in Las Terrenas, lost, 2 hours late, and disoriented, Gilles found us in town, and without a harsh word, led us to his B&B.

The home is beautiful, clean, and has a stunning location in the mountains. We stayed in the bungalow, which is a bit off the main house and although small, has a great walk in closet, bathroom, and is very romantic with a great deal of privacy. The room was always impeccably clean when we returned from long days on the beach, and waking up to the most gorgeous panorama of mountains and ocean is certainly an ideal way to start the day.

Notes:
Beach is close, but you will definitely need a rental car
House has garage parking
No AC in the bungalow, but we were totally fine (it is much cooler in the hills)
Quiet, private, and not teeming with tourists
the stars are really beautiful at Gilles house!

The breakfast is simple, but delicious - make sure you try the hot chocolate!

If we visit Las Terrenas again, we will definitely stay at Casa de Gilles. Thanks Gilles!

Room Tip: Bungalow is quiet and private with a beautiful little deck and 2 Adirondack chairs.

Gilles's house is amazing to say the least! If the pictures we saw were the selling point for us, the reality was even better!
We had two weeks in The Dominican Republic, out of which 6 days in Las Terrenas, in Casa de Gilles, and I can safely say they were the best part of our Honeymoon.
Mr. Gilles was very kind and helpful, gave us information on how to reach Las Terrenas, waited for us at the bus stop, and for our whole stay there he recommended many restaurants, beaches, and places to see. All the recommendations he made were great and helped us spend our time the best way possible.
He even went with us when we rented a quad or when we chose a trip to the Los Haitises Park, and both places gave us a discount because we were friends of his.
He made us feel very at home there, his pets (a beautiful cat and a dog) were a joy to play with, and the personnel working there were always with a smile on their face.
I cannot emphasize enough how astonishing the view, pool and house are! So we definitely recommend this place, and we will surely return!
