“Charming Hotel in Beautiful Las Terrenas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

This really is a very charming hotel both architecturally and in its surroundings. The rooms are well equipped and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Best of all is the authentic French cuisine using local produce. The chef, Gérard Prystasz, is so very good at what he does that he was formerly the personal chef at the French Presidential Palace during the time of Francoise Mitterand. The beach front setting is idyllic too being that the hotel is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Dominican Republic, a country with some amazing natural beauty and warm friendly people. Even better, the hotel rate offer very good value whether you be in the area for leisure or on business.

It was a very nice experience to spend 2 nights in this lovely hotel.

So different as the other big complex of this town. Our room on the restaurant was very big, clean and romanti, such as the bathroom.

I don't remeber a special pleasent welcomimg moment, but all the team was great and smiling.

And the restaurant... the restaurant!!! What a moment, perhaps the best of all Caribeen restaurant I tested.

Had dinner there last night and enjoyed our meal very much. The service was good and the food was served in a timely manner. Large selection on the menu. The appetizers are very very large and tasty. This seems to be a trend here for the appetizers to be very large. Overall a very nice experience

I stayed there February- Amazing cuisine and paradisiac beach right in front of the hotel!
Every room is different and have a different name, is very diverse and unique hotel. Is located in Playa Bonita, I spent my weekend in total relaxation seating by the sea, swimming, eating delicious prepared meals. It was amazing stay.
Looking forward to my next stay!

This is a small hotel with a definite "indie vibe", a place for individualists, romantic couples, or those who do not care for the large all-inclusive resorts. The place is heaven for food lovers like us: French gourmet cooking with fresh tropical ingredients, served at the beach, accompanied by fine Bordeaux wines (white and red by the glass, the house wine is excellent). I attach a picture of the gilthead seabream in spicy coconut-chinola (passion fruit) sauce, steamed in a banana leaf that still makes my mouth watery today. We traveled in May, which is in-between-seasons, and several times found ourselves to be the only ones on the entire beach. And what a beach this playa bonita is, it deserves its name well! Crystal clear water, white sand, palm trees. The hotel is right at the beach, and it is pretty small, so you can walk back and forth from your beach spot to the bar to the restaurant and to the room within seconds. I should also mention that the breakfast they serve is excellent, with their own fresh bread and home-made fresh fruit juices. Try the chinola/maracuya juice at least once, this is a French-style juice with no sugar added. All the food is served either under a thatched roof, looking out to the beach on one side and to the hotel on the other, or right at the beach under a larger, round thatched roof.

I want to add three more things, maybe of lesser importance, to this review; first, I've seen that some reviewers posted that the restaurant is expensive. Yes and no is my answer to this - if you compare the price to a simple eatery for locals, where you can get the "bandera Dominicana" for about two Euros, then yes, this place is priced extravagantly; if you are into excellent and creative food and compare this to places in the French Caribbean, however, then this place is dirt cheap and the food is probably better here than at some much more expensive places there.

The second thought is, we drove here by car, and the maps of Las Terrenas did not match reality too well. My girlfriend's smartphone with google maps and GPS saved the day. Driving in the D.R. is outright dangerous, anyway, so if you are not too adventurous, don't do it. Airport service is offered on the hotel's website. If you get yourself in a car, though, be forewarned, and drive during daylight so that you have a fair chance of finding the place.

Third though is I should mention we used our stay at the Atlantis not only to check out Las Terrenas and surroundings, but also as the base camp for a day-trip to the waterfall of Limon. I highly recommend this trip - the waterfall is spectacular, the pond is warm and you should swim in it (they've got two cabins there for you to change into swimwear) and take photos. Warning: even if you rent a horse, you will have to wade through the (very warm) river once, so ladies, leave your Pradas at home and come in casual attire and sports shoes that will get soaked. Also, if you fall into the water, your iPhone and iPad and camera may not like it. Leave them at the hotel or give them to the one in your group that is wearing a backpack and is experienced in the mountains.

Room Tip: We booked the largest room, called "Jamaica", overlooking the beach. This is the most expe...

We stayed at the atlantis 3 nights. We had a nice room but the weather was not the best, and in Playa Bonita without a car and without good weather there is nothing to do. Most of the restaurants and the surfing school were closed, so it was an off season feeling in the season. But, the hotel is cute, the architecture is funny, the food is fantastic (one of the best that we had there), The stuff was extremely helpful. We took the Jamaica room with a see view that was nice but due to the fact that there are many trees and we had clouds and the balcony is small, I am not sure that it is the best value for money, but hey, we came on a holiday.

Room Tip: A sea view is not a must

We stayed at Atlantis for five nights and it was amazing. The rooms are simple but really big, really cute and have everything you could need. The grounds are so beautiful, and the food is great. The staff was very helpful and nice. The only downside is that its a little difficult to get into town, but thats just how it is in Las Terrenas at the moment. and at any time, if you need a ride the front desk calls a moto for you. One day we had some local fisherman take us fishing, and when we caught a dorado, the staff took it and made a huge gourmet dinner for us with their ingredients and didn't even charge us. I can't wait to go back!
