Our 1st visit to this Oscar and Lalo's was because of reading TA reviews. We'd driven by several times as it wasn't far from where we were staying, but hadn't gone in, as eating in a restaurant off a highway isn't what we'd normally do. However, after reading the reviews we decided to try it and we're glad we did!
As mentioned in many other reviews the ambience is quite nice. Tables are clustered under large palapas thorough out the lovely gardens, so even if quite busy, you're in a smaller, more intimate space. The ceiling fans were on to keep us cool on the warm night we were there. The menu was varied and appealing. We had meat dishes, the 1 and only time while in Mexico ( usually had fish), and the steak arancheria ( may not be the correct name, sorry) was tender and flavorful. We then happened to have lunch there the next day as it was included w/our Riviera Adventours
(same owner as O & L) tour we took that day. ( See my review on TA re: this experience). We then stopped by the next day for lunch on our way to Chichen Itza. Again, excellent meal. We tried the ceviche sampler ( 3 different preparations) and all were excellent, and obviously freshly prepared while we waited. We rarely go to the same restaurant so many times when on a trip, and it wasn't because there weren't other good restaurants, as we experienced several good ones in Akumal Playa, however, the friendly service, delicious fresh food, attentiveness of the owner, Virginia, there each time we dined there, made us want to go back.
Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
