“WOW interesting experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

Informed when we called the lodge staff on duty 24/7.. Reality -Staff off duty at 11 p.m. till 7 a.m.

Informed that the bar or store would be open till at least 9 or 10 p.m.
Reality -Closed at 8 pm till 8 a.m.

Pop machines on site turned off or empty.

Ice Buckets kept under lock and key

No Air conditioning, drapes open windows closed.

Lamp shade in room water stained and green material on inside of shade.

When I requested to speak to a manager I was informed that management informed they were all off duty. When I asked if they would be in tomorrow was informed with a grin "maybe if they wanted too"

In fairness to this one staff member it appeared that he was the only staff on duty at night and in the morning as well.

On

Room Tip: Excellent place to stay in the winter, summer stays a poor after thought with staff that are more in...

Awesome! It has everything a family needs:
- indoor pool with spa
- restaurant with TV if you need to watch the Euro Cup Finals :P
- playground for kids
- tennis court
- indoor recreation with pool, ping pong, soccer table
- BBQ rentals
- lots of awesome hiking trails

Make sure to go down to the lake, rent a boat and fish and hike the trail around the lake

Room Tip: make sure to ask for a cabin that has some green space in front, its own table and a fire pit if not...

This is the second time we have stayed at the Lodge, both times during what seem to be off-season weeks. As a result, the place was practically empty and we had 2 nights of peace and quiet in a suite overlooking the back parking lot. No kids running down the hall, no late-nite partiers next door. I would give it 5 stars for my sleep alone! The room was huge and the bathroom was impeccably clean. In fact everything was tidy and ready. The pillows were a litle hard and the soaps were the size of large buttons in wrappers that were tough to remove so those are just some minor comments. The cleaning staff never did up the room the second day, so we had to ask for a few things at the desk.
The strangest thing about this location is the nearby restaurant and food availability. We arrived at 6:20 pm after a long day of driving, only to be told that the restaurant closes at 6 pm! That's crazy. I asked the deck person if he could phone over and ask if we could get in right away and he did so I was very grateful for that. There was no where else to eat otherwise! The second night however, we were the only ones in the restaurant at 6 pm so we might not have been so lucky had we arrived that night. Heads up on the hours! Also the restaurant wasn't open at all for breakfast, but the front desk did offer a continental breakfast in a carry box (juice, fruit, muffin, yogurt) and that was quite satisfactory. Even the little store didn't open until 10 am so the only coffee available were the packets in the room. Good idea to bring your own food or alcoholic beverages, which I think can be bought at the gas-store at the park's east gate. The park is wonderful for hikes in the summer and we had a very pleasant experience. The staff seems a bit unenthusiastic but were helpful when necessary.

I almost lived there 40 yrs ago, skied most weekends, mostly xc and touring. Went back for my 65 birthday with family. A nostalgia trip.Trails and grooming excellent. Shuttle bus service good, friendly driver, to and from downhill lodge, some 10 km away. Wife and inlaw used the bus as they had tough time skiing from lodge to downhill area. Pool and hot tubs great. Restaurant foor service and staff excellent. Cabin was ok, though missing a few things and dated a bit. Clean and very usable. We brought our some of our own food and champagne for the celabrating and had wonderful time. Highly recommended for family winter holiday as the atmosphere is low key, costs reasonable. Sadly resort has been under receivership and for sale for 3 yrs. Hopefully someone with vision purschases this, as the potential is fabulous, only 2 hrs from vancouver.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

Our family of four recently stayed at the Manning Park Resort for 3 nights. While the lodge rooms are older the room was clean and spacious. Although there are signs requesting no cooking in the rooms, all rooms have a mini fridge and a microwave so we were able to prepare all of our meals using the basic "heat and eat" method of travel dining. We brought containers of frozen cooked entrees from home along with an assortment of cheeses, spreads, breads, cereals, yogurts, crackers, fruits, beverages etc (as well as bowls and spoons). There is a restaurant in a separate building (with a pub and general store as well) and no room service but take out is available.

There is no wi-fi in the resort, and no cell phone reception (and yes, teenagers, that means no text messages either, lol). Manning Park Resort is about 45 minutes east of Hope in the middle of the Cascade Mountains. Yes, you are in the middle of nowhere. But it is a gorgeous place and it was a nice break to get away from it all. There is a guest computer in the lobby and I was able to check my email etc so didn't feel completely cut off but it was a good break from the usual constant updates and messages.

TV reception was basic (four channels) but we weren't there to watch tv. We were there to enjoy the winter wonderland around the resort. The outdoor skating rink was the highlight for our kids who spent hours playing hockey each night after skiing. The indoor pool was great and I spent lots of time relaxing in the hot tub and sauna. And the night sky was incredible. The cold clear dry air meant that I could see literally hundreds of stars. Magical.

Housekeeping was good but the resort was overwhelmed on the Sunday and our room didn't get cleaned until late afternoon (too many checkouts). I imagine that this happens often at resorts which get most of their business as weekend destinations. We were taking advantage of a school closure to make a long weekend so didn't leave until Monday. Had we been leaving on Sunday as well we wouldn't have noticed.

The downhill ski area is 10km away and there is a courtesy shuttle bus which runs once an hour. The driver, Wayne, is truly one of the nicest (and happiest) people I have ever met. He helped people with their gear, answered all their questions, and dropped off people along the way (snowshoe and cross country trail heads are on the way to the downhill area). The downhill skiing was really good, with dry snow and lots of good terrain. My daughter, however, who is a beginner, found the green runs too difficult but there is a novice area served by a t-bar and rope tow. I spent most of my day helping my daughter get over her fear but I was able to get one good fast run solo and the snow was amazing. This is not a good destination for beginners. The green runs at Manning are like the blue runs on our local hills in Vancouver. For experienced skiers, this is a really fun ski destination with excellent snow and interesting terrain. The cross country skiing is good too but we didn't try it this weekend.

We really enjoyed our winter vacation and are planning on returning to the resort next summer for a weekend of hiking.

Any family wishing to holiday in the snow and in Canada will love this resort. We stayed in a chalet. Two families shared 3 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms, easily sleeping 12 with a kitchen. Transport to skiing is simple and convenient. We walked the kids to outdoor ice skating and tobogganing. We were blessed with beautiful snow. Many thanks

We arrived in the evening and all the amenities were closed, a bit too early in my opinion. Also, the breakfast restaurant did not open until 8 AM, which seems kind of late. There is no cell phone service in the area, and no wifi. I think if you are going to ski or hike or explore the park, this is a nice hotel, especially if you can take in their other facilities. I think it will cost you $100 a night, and seemed a little pricey for the level of service.
