“Could buy whole bottle of wine!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

I recently went to Coolum to visit relatives staying there - we went to a bar at the Market Place for a glass of wine - $28.90 for two glasses of Reisling NOT even poured to the legal level!

As a local of the Sunshine Coast I certainly will NOT be returning there.

There are too many stories from the staff having to be able to work 24/7 at all levels of work.

I'm a golfing fan so when the National PGA Championships came to town, i decided to take my son to the Palmer Resort to watch some great players play. I did not expect to see unbelievably bad, trashy, cheap signs painted on the fairways. You do expect the occasional fairway painted signage but not this rubbish. It would have been embarrassing for the PGA and awkward for the broadcaster. Sadly, the fairways rated better than the food. It was overpriced garbage. I even had one staff member apologise for the poor quality. Not a ringing endorsement for the so called resort.

We chose to stay in “The Lakes” part of the resort this time, for what is becoming a yearly event for our family. Accommodation being a 4 bedroom Villa with just about every conceivable extra including 2x Golf Buggies and Tarago ‘People Mover”. Strolling around is delightful amongst beautifully kept gardens, lakes with swans and other bird life as well as the odd large lizard scurrying away and a pristine private pool.

Booking was a breeze through Chris & Jacqui of megatron.com.au

After holidaying here for over 20 years, we finally made the short trip to “Australia Zoo” - well worth a day visit.

As far as the Resort is concerned, service was excellent, restaurants meals - exceptional, browsing for wine at the wine cellar - good fun and the nightly entertainment in the village – topping it off. Lastly, the beach is beautiful.

We are delighted you enjoyed the service and found the food exceptional. We believe the entertainment adds to the fun atmosphere of the Village Square. Thank you for taking the time to write and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Although our room was quite pleasant like other people have commented its a bit dated but the grounds are quite nice. The biggest dissapointment for us was the food. We were there for my husbands birthday so it was for an occassion that we were there, it was also when the Titanic week was on. When I booked I had made sure that there were other options available for dining other than the Titanic menu and was assured and even emailed altertive options. Also double checked when we checked in and again was given the same answer. Rang and booked the Captains table, no mention of set menu, when we arrived at the restaurant it was a set menu and nothing else, our waitress was wonderful and they helped us out but still not what I had booked. The next day we went to the reception to compain and also check if it applied to the Saturday night as well and again was assured that no there were certainly other options for Saturday night and there had been a late change from management about the set menus on Friday night. This time we decided to dine at the Palmer grill, arrived was was told by a very rude waitress that it was definately a set menu and when we mentioned that the reception staff had told us otherwise she stormed over the the reception where the staff were still saying that they were not told it was set and she was again very rude to not only the reception staff but also us. Ended up having a pizza!!! Can have that any time, not what we wanted for an expensive weekend away. Wrote an complaint to the General Manager who didnt understand our point and didnt seem to care either.

We apologise for the confusion with restaurant set menus during the Titanic II week.
There is also no excuse for staff to be rude, and this incident will be addressed with the staff member concerned. I hope you will consider returning to the resort as we pride ourselves on providing excellent service and having a wide variety of restaurant choices.

Recently stayed one night at this resort and was very dissapointed. The room I stayed in was very dated and looked nothing like the pictures on the website. I had ants in the bathroom, yellow water in the bath, the tv didn't work properly and then when I finally managed to fix it the only channels on cable were sports channels that appear to be hand picked by Mr Palmer for Mr Palmer. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels but never had a surcharge of $10 for every room service delivery. I ordered toast and recieved no plate or cutlery and had to spread my butter and jam on with an old knife from the previous nights room service which was also served in a plastic bowl.

I was charged 80c just for turning on the TV. The internet would not work so I had to call the outbound call centre. The lounge chairs on the balcony were covered in dirt. The dinasour out the front and tacky yellow signs just top off the tackiness. Mr Palmer needs to employ a designer who knows what they are doing and rather than spending his money on building titanic replicas he should consider injecting that money into this resort for renovations and a total makeover!

10/10 to the staff who were polite and welcoming - but they deserve better also

Never again for $300 per night

The decor in the rooms was dated and tired and there were stains on tiled floors. Was charged $75 to have 1 shirt and 1 dress ironed, not washed or dry cleaned, just ironed. The main swimming pool did not have any resort feel to it and there were no waiters to place an order for either bar or food. For what we paid per night I expected a far better class of accommodation, features and availability of service. Thankfully most staff were very pleasant and friendly.

Thank you for your comments. With regard to the laundry charge, being a Saturday the dry cleaning company charges a surcharge. There is a Laundry Docket in rooms which outlines pricing and surcharges. There is also an iron and ironing board located in each guest room if a fee is not considered appropriate. We apologise if you did not receive the messages left by our Duty Manager quoting the fee that will be charged for the service.
We are pleased to note that you found most staff very pleasant and friendly.
Thank you for taking the time to write, we appreciate your feedback.

Was there last week for a work event. It was my second time there and I find it awesome. The spa is beautiful and clean..all class. Rooms perhaps slightly dated for a five star hotel, but still really good. The feel you get walking through the wooded community with the wild turkeys is very zen. I just don't get the negative reviews here. I suspect they are aimed largely at the unpopular mining magnate, Clive Palmer who took over the resort and actually lives there. Yes, I agree the big dinosaur on the 18th green is weird, as is his obsession with the titanic. And there are a few other minor tacky things, but all in all a beautiful place with a beautiful beach (not that I had the time to go-I heard lots about it).
However I did hear that he plans to turn this into a Jurassic park type resort, with a casino and an airstrip of it's own, just to fly in Asian visitors, so you might want to recheck the status of this place in the future. Not sure it will be so zen at that point.
